Stress - how do you deal with it?
I just came back fr the dr..... seems i dont cope with stress or anxiety too well and its affecting my lil' tummy :(
How do you guys cope and / or deal with stress? I'm going to look into mediation classes here in Vancouver as a starter... anyone else worry alot ? Whitney |
I don't worry a lot, but I do stress myself way too much and it cuases a bad temper. I throw shit haha.

Long walks work really well for me, especially during sunsets. Also driving in the country area with the sunroof open and windows down works nicely. This doesn't work in winter though.

I've been on anxiety medication for the last 2 months...
Had to switch to paxil last month.. Seems to be working out more.. Mostly with the advice of pimpdog saying think of things in little steps rather than the whole big picture it has helped me mellow out alot.. I also stopped drinking caffine, no more starbucks, I drink only caffine free soda.. And I try to stay away from chocolate as much as possible.. I feel less shakey and anxious from the caffine.. I also stopped smoking about 5 months ago.. I am taking steps in the right direction to ease my stress.. |

Relax and take your time, look at the good in things. Most people forget how good they have it and let to much bother them instead of really enjoying the good that they do have

I am bad for anxiety i cause myself unnecessary stress on a daily bases.. i've been that way since i was young. And PD is right thinking in small steps is alot more healthier and productive than getting stuck on the big picture.... taking everything one day at a time..... I'\m glad im not the only stress case out there !!! :P |

Whitney, you should sit down and make a list of everything that causes stress in your life. Then look at each item and think about what you can do to make that a less stressful event. If work is getting to you, try to separate your work life from your private life. If friends are getting to you, find some new friends or take a break from your current friends.
Think about things that help you relieve stress. Vacations, music, movies, the beach. Then try to incorporate some of those into your life more. Music helps me. So when I start freaking out about something stupid I plug in my iPod, listen to loud Metallica, and work while blocking out everything else. |

I used to not even be able to leave my house. I didn't do well around groups of people, big or small. The panic would set in and I'd not be able to handle anything.
Then along came my good Dr. and his friend Mr. Zoloft, and things have been a-ok ever since. If I need a quick fix that the meds won't take care of...5 mintues with the barrel of my shotgun in my mouth and I'm back on track. |

I think about the things that calm me down, and do them and incorporate them into my life. I get very stressed and worried and a lot of times it makes me sick with migraines and other things. One step at a time... ;) |

We should hang out more at the next show... Anyways, if you ever feel you wanna talk about anything, I'm always down.. Hit me up on ICQ, 847-00-583 .. A good way to relieve stress is to talk about it with others.. venting is always something I enjoy.. |
I usually cope with stress by fixing the window i broke or hole in the wall I just made. :feels-hot

wiritng here dude...

Put stuff out of your mind if you can before sleeping.
|
Also, set your priorities in order and take care of them that way without worry about multiple things at once. :2 cents:

Funny story relating to it.
I had been stresing and going into a deep depression about a month and a half ago because of my job(not the online one) It sucked super for me because i am not normaly a depressed person (lols yup..a happy go lucky goth) And I didnt know how to handle it, that made me feel even worse. So one day, I was running some erands for my mother in her car (she is disabled) and I was backing into her garage . My foot sliped off the break and I cornered the pasanger door into the garage and broke off the miror. Luckly the damage wasnt that bad. Because of that I pretty much had a break down, crying and upset because that car is my mothers baby. Surprisingly she wasnt that upset. And after having this nervous break down I woke up the next morning feeling good. very good. My mother used to tell me a good cry is all you need to feel better. It just helps let everything go. And I know alot of men think crying is bad but hell. Just get some privacy and spend a few hours by yourself letting it all out and then you feel so much better. |

A small problem is like a brick. Nobody cares about bricks at first glance, they're just a small block of cement. Then another brick comes along. And another. And another. And another. Sooner than later those bricks all stack up nice and tightly next to each other, creating a wall that pins you in the corner. Close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths. Open your eyes and you'll see that the surrounding wall is built of nothing more than those small bricks. Reach up and pull one brick down. Then another. Then another. Eventually you'll create a hole big enough to squeeze out of the corner. Go grab a sledge hammer and tear the rest down. :winkwink: |
I try to not to think too much stressful thoughts, and think about happy thoughts. Does that make sense? :helpme

I either don't stress or I internalize things so well I don't even realize it. :( Although I DO freak out when something really big happens. Usually family and friends getting hurt/passing away/in trouble/etc. I remember coming home after dropping my son at soccer camp in SC to 5 email messages with the last one from the surgeon saying he needed my permission to operate on my 15 year old baby's broken arm. I swear I couldn't even breath for several minutes. Little things don't get to me. If I start to feel like I'm trying to do too many things at once (my biggest problem) I'll pour a glass of wine and go sit outside. Getting away from the computer/phone helps me a lot. I took some biofeedback classes for my migraines. It didn't help them at all :winkwink: but they seemed like good relaxing exercises. :) |

and thanks for the stories relating i appreciate it... :) |
Exercise actually helps some. I jog on occasion and that relieves some stress. Are you obsessive compulsive or suffer from social anxiety disorder or is it more of a worrying about details in life?

Exercise Whit, I love hitting the punching bag to help release stress.
I changed my food habits as well. Also try not to eat late at night. It doesn't help when u want to sleep. Try learning some yoga as well. It' s a great way to meditate and release stress. I also get regular massages as well. Hope you feel better Whitney!! I missed you this past weekend!!:winkwink: |
