I own a country house, but I live IN town right now... I can't get high speed internet out there thanks. It's called a cottage, or are you unfamilar with the concept?

I think it was/is a very nice cottage..... what does one of those cost, in that area? are the real estate ownership records kept in canada too?

I think I might have to call on a few similar properties I like it in the sticks....

You can't get the internet out there unless you are going to pay to get all the phonelines upgraded. They are all on old copper. The house is about 40 minutes out of town, and the best you can get there is 26.4 dialup. But if you want to pay the $750,000 the phone company quoted to bring DSL up there, go right on ahead. I'm sure you're that blingin, right Joe?

As for good realtors, my mother in law has been in real estate for 30 years. I'm sure she could get you a great deal. Houses like ours go for about $140,000 Canadian with property.

It's been in the family almost 12 years now... We bought it right after it was built.. the owners went bankrupt just before it was completed, and we got it for a sweet deal. As I say my mother in law is a real estate agent so it was simple. It's in the family but it's ours now. My husband's family have lived in this area for HUNDREDS of years.

I've seen them go as low as $80,000 Canadian... and some AMAZING houses...


The town is shit, but the surrounding area is AMAZING for cottages.

I believe it.. the new house we're moving to is very similar to the cottage though, except it's in Oakville and not buttfuck nowhere :P

Cost of houses in nice area in California is astronomical right now.

Homes that were valued at 800k 5 years ago, are at like 1.3 million now.

well since no proof of the deed can be offered for me to scout for similarities, then just tell me the town, I will get a realtor to look into it for me....

It was purchased for a LOT less than that, partly due to the fact the people who built it ran out of money and were desperate to recover their losses. And that's not really an unusual price up here with that much land.. In fact our house is worth quite a bit more beacuse it's nicer than most of the surrounding ones. Property value is on the rise here as more and more people are using this area as an alternative to the astronomically expensive Muskoka region. If you want to buy and have the property value increase more, I would suggest going closer to Haliburton. It's a nicer town and the values are higher.

Yes. Fall up here is SPECTACULAR. They have a fall studio tour that goes through and right past our house and it's amazing. In fact, my son's best friend's mother is one of the studios they stop at :)
