The election was stolen.

Only twice in the history of the US has the electoral vote gone against the popular vote...and there is a reason when this happens. It is because of the variance of delegates to the electorial college from the different states. The electoral college is imporatant and should not be changed.

This point is inaccurate though, many a country has been rocked by foriegn public opinion and commentary and i think it's fair to say there are many Americans that do listen to what their eurpoean and other brothers and sisters in the world have to say and those Americans that listen DO get a vote. It's a bit more complex than you suggest :-)

Mandatory voting would violate the 1st Amendment; abstaining is a protected political statement. But a national holiday on election day is a wonderful idea.

problem with the holiday is that it would be different each time wouldnt it? hard for companies to schedule etc.. good idea tho! would sure help to get more people voting.
