She could have tenure at damn near any University she wished in the world in her speciality of Cold War studies, and speaks fluent Russian.

Once you get that far to the top of society each person is likely to be tied to some special interest group either large business, banking, consulting or law. They are also bound to have friends who are well connected on the basis of organizations, schools etc...

It isn't realistic for successful people to unconnected to various upper elements of society.

You are making a pretty broad insinuation about Condi's qualifications in regards to the study of modern American political history / foriegn policy.

It hard to say whether she has studied Europe and U.S.S.R more than studying the overall impact of Cold War policy on the two major powers. given the nature of the discipline, you study the interaction between countries.

Most Cold War scholars study both sides--The U.S. and the U.S.S.R. from the end of WWII to the Beginning of the first Bush Administration.

In addition most major cold war scholars say that she is the dog's bollocks.

I'd say that along with her level of achievement makes her uniquely well-qualified for her current position.
