have experience planning a wedding?

its fucking expensive!!!! I am thinking of late summer of '05

we are thinking about $60k should cover it considering the following ...

$125/head x 250 ppl = $32k for the hall

$30 x 250 = $7.5k for favors

$3k for DJ

$4k for flowers

$1k for dress

$1k for invitations (just guessing)

$4k for photography (this one is critical to me)

$3k for 5 limos sounds ok?

$500 for church

$5k for honeymoon ?

$61k so far and im sure im missing stuff. This is not counting where we will live after the wedding! Id like to move her into my house here where just my uncle and I live, but im sure she will want a place she can call her own, and show to her friends and shit ...

DAYAM!!!

washiez 12-28-2003 09:13 PM

You definitly should get your own place you two can both call home. A good investment too ;)

thing is, 100yrs from now this house is mine. 2 family house with finished attic and basement, lots of property and in a great neighborhood.

house was bought 45yrs ago for $19k and now worth over $500k with no mtg on there.

if i leave uncle alone, he will sell house and keep money lol

I dunno about you but I wouldn't wait 100 years to maybe have a house that could be mine.

Make an investment in a good area and you will make atleast 25% in a few years. Hell Ive almost doubled mine and I've been here for less then 3 years. You just gotta find the right places..

and besides.. do you really want to live with your uncle for the rest of his life?

twistyneck 12-28-2003 09:20 PM

$60k for a wedding? Dude, put the crack pipe down and think about this a bit. I know you want to have a nice wedding but you can do it for a lot less money than that.

Spunky 12-28-2003 09:21 PM

Just go to Vegas and do one of those quicky marriages. After all it is only a piece of paper.Save your money for getting a house.:2 cents:

Exactly.

katsuki 12-28-2003 09:23 PM

damn that's a lot for a wedding!
4k for flowers? that seems a little steep
and whats: $30 x 250 = $7.5k for favors
do u give them all a little party pack??

i think u should spend the money as a deposit for a home, and just live in sin! :P

100yrs is a metafor, meaning whenever uncle passes away or leaves or whatever

in my family we say 100yrs as a way of talking about this stuff without offending the people your talking about lol

TaylorM 12-28-2003 09:25 PM

You can have a nice wedding for 10k (excluding the honeymoon), if you shop around and do some investigating. There are lots of discount places out there for all of your wedding needs.

What are you serving for dinner and what are your favors? Good lord that is pricey! BTW, the flowers are way too espensive.

Just trying to help you out and save you about 50k.

Take the rest of the money and buy a house or invest!!! 61k for ONE day! YIKES!

Yeah well I think you'd start your marriage on the right foot if your uncle wasn't always involved in your life day to day. Just my opinion. You want to start a family.. have kids.. a dog.. etc? You gotta think about these things man.. a house is a great investment and in this day and age, you will be making a lot of money from it as well as building your family.

i see what your saying bro, but $10k??

the place with all the halls around here is a town called New Rochelle. There is countless halls! But they ALL avg about the same, which is about $100-$150 per head

yea i can shop the other stuff, but the big nut is gonna be the hall :(

Pipecrew 12-28-2003 09:51 PM

No fucking way a DJ is getting 3k. I might be out of touch, but there just can be no way!

broke 12-28-2003 09:55 PM

why bother

BradShaw 12-28-2003 09:56 PM

That $61k will be $100k once your lady gets her hands on things. Trust me, I just finished paying for a wedding!

$4k is nothing for flowers, I spent many times that.

Good luck finding a dress for $1k, unless you are picking it out.

$4k for a good photgrapher? Good luck if you want someone decent and video as well. We spent $20k+ on photographer, and I was still not pleased with the results.

$5k for a honeymoon? You flying coach to an all inclusive resort?

media 12-28-2003 09:58 PM

I just eloped, had a nice reception a month later, it all worked out fantastic.. I have been married over 3 years now... Been with her almost 7 years... Fuck all that huge wedding bullshit, it all means jack shit... Its just to please everyone else, the only thing that matters is the love between you and your future wife..

BradShaw 12-28-2003 10:01 PM

I would recommend a destination wedding, pay for like 10 people to join u. And any other friends can pay their own way. Keep it small. Regardless, wedding is a business where they scam you left and right. We are still fighting over some charges for the hotel, good thing I put most everything on amex.

J.R. 12-28-2003 10:03 PM

I think your spending WAY more then you need to.

I was living in Napa, (Napa Valley)

I rented an entire Winery.. famous one, V. Sattui Winery
flowers were 5k, DJ was 1k, Food was First Class
and it was about $25 a person.

We paid 3k for the winery.. and my 2 week trip to
Europe was 7k or so.

I think all in all, we spent 30k and had a formal, classy
wedding.. and I paid cash for it all.

We had about 80 people.

If you need help, lemme know.. my wife knows alot
about this kind of stuff.

Don't listen to Brad, he has no clue.

He threw money away thinking that spending tons of
$$$$ means you will have a nice wedding.

Thats not the case with any wedding, more $$$ doesn't mean
your going to get a good wedding service.

Sosa 12-28-2003 10:06 PM

Don't spend fucking 60k on a wedding.

freeadultcontent 12-28-2003 10:07 PM

Aint ya forgetting the license, the priest, pastor, or whomever to marry you, the furniture/placesetting rentals, the parking at the church and reception, the wedding cake, catering food costs, waiters, bar cost, bridesmaids dresses, and oh yeah the wedding ring.

Then also do not forget the bridal shower and all the costs envolved for that, the bachelors party if your not so whipped to not have one.

You would prolly be better off just outsourcing and hiring a pro, often you can get many reduced rates through them that will more than cover their costs.

Weddings will set you back a couple of years it is so expensive and none of it is tax deductible

I am sure you can do a nice wedding for alot less. But if you want to do it at the finest hotel in Dallas, you have to pay the prices that they charge. If you want to cut corners, sure there are plenty that you can.

Also, do not forget the $5k+ for a wedding planner.

Don't forget the $20K your 'wedding planner' made on the back end.

Libertine 12-28-2003 10:16 PM

What the fuck?? Do people really spend these amounts on weddings?!

:eek7

playa 12-28-2003 10:20 PM

250 people? Even if i knew that many people there is no way in hell i'd invite that many and $125 per head for food is outrageous. Just get a buffet and call it a day. Weddings are a chick thing anyways, if it was upto me it would be a BYOBB affair :)

Key words... "if it were up to me".

It's not.

I had 250 fuckwits at my wedding. Haven't seen 90% of them again... and won't.

Ah well.

I guess its kind of annoying to go to all these weddings, and have to invite all these people, but atleast they all give healthy gifts heh

also it brings everyone together a few times a year ... pretty cool.

When one of the brothers had it in bahamas, only 60 people showed up. But we had a fucking BLAST!!!!

No doubt she made plenty on back end.

Wedding is not always about what "you" want, its good preparation for marriage. Compromise and writing checks!

Brad Xtremepay 12-28-2003 10:27 PM

Rich: $500 will do.
Sign the marriage certificate and put 60k down on a new home.

Traditionally its the bride's parents that pay for the wedding :)
