Why drive fast??? You just get tickets.

This is a debate I've been having with alot of people lately... Why the fuck would you drive so fast all the time? Sooner or later, you just get - in wrecks, a traffic jam or speeding tickets. I used to drive fast all the time and one year I got 6 speeding tickets all over Cali, Nevada & Texas. I spent lots of time in court, not working, traveling to court apearances, paying people to drive me around, renting cars because mine was in impound, etc, etc... Not to mention - the money I lost on fines, rental cars, lost wages, impound fees & extra insurance because I was a high risk. My estimated cost that year because of all this was about $40,000.

So my question to myself & those who disagree with me about now driving slower is: How do you (or I) save time by driving fast when the end result is always the preceeding paragraph?

Sometimes you just dont notice, I didnt when I got my speeding ticket last friday. Got pulled over doing 101, had no idea I was going that fast because you dont notice it sometimes. :(

Im more cautious now though. Eventually everyone goes through enough tickets to start slowing down, but until that happens people just assume they wont get pulled over or have problems.

I'm alot more calm and cautious now---

especially since I don't live by any kind of time scheduel...

I always drive 75-80, but the speed limit on some highways here is 70 so it's not that much over. :2 cents:

A lot of people dont realize that the "sucker" that you passed on the freeway at 140km/h will end up right beside you at the right light on the off ramp, when you get off the high way

That's when you gotta watch out - when you are jammin to some killer tune on the radio and singin along and before you know it... you are doin 100. This is also the exact reason I do the discman thing while riding my bike or skiing.

You speed for many reason:

- it's fun
- it's fun again
- travel time is less
- maybe you're late

Now if you're going somewhere that takes 35 minutes and you speed and get there in 30 minutes you just saved time. Let's say this is a daily commute both one way and back.

So 5 days, 30 min each way = 5 hours
35 minutes = 5 hours 25 minutes. You just saved yourself 25 minutes!

Longer trips you can save an hour or two. Speeding is worth it. We should all speed. If you die from speeding then too bad, survival of the fittest I guess.

I spent about 2 months in court or driving to court apearances.

Leave the house earlier.

I dont feel safe under 90mph... 130mph is the beginning of my comfort zone... and the ONLY two times ive gotten tickets is because i had an empty tank

Wade 12-05-2003 10:34 AM

Dont speed, its not worth it. Unless you are at the race track, then its fun ;-)

baddog 12-05-2003 10:57 AM

I like court, serously. I beat far more tickets than I lose, and now I use a radar detector to help the odds when on the open road

What are some of the ways to beat tickets, Im looking at three court dates in the next 30 days :(

J B 12-05-2003 11:06 AM

Well, I guess it depends on where you live. Here in Germany there are a lot of roads with no speed limit and not much traffic at all, so it's no problem to drive 150 mph :)

its 34+ mph over the speed limit, court appearance is required, as far as NJ is concerned. At least according to the ticket.

raceman 12-05-2003 11:13 AM

America also doesn't have fuck-all in the way of driver education. The idea of soccer mommys flying down the freeway at 110 in minivans scares me. It should scare you too. When we teach people how to drive then we can be as "progressive" as Germany is. Go find out about what it takes to get a license there. They also have much more stringent laws about the condition your vehicle must be in for it to be allowed on the roads. No smoking POS 1990 Civics with fart can exhausts to worry about. Much more progressive, I agree. We should all be more like Germany.

Believe me I know, American requirements for a license are a joke. People in Germany dont even J-walk.

I'm not too bothered about the speeders - most of the young ones (i.e. all twinks in Golfs that sit with a Schumacher stance) will run into a telephone poll sooner or later. I usually move with the traffic at around 80-90 on the motorway when it's not busy (limit is 70), and move with the traffic when it's busy at whatever speed it may be. I keep it to a max of 35 in and around town (limit is 30)... especially since there are pedestrians, cyclists, horses, roadworks, etc.

It's the overly timid drivers that worry me.

Old people, and women, that try to merge into 70MPH traffic by driving down the access road and indicating at 45. FORTY FUCKING FIVE. Yes, indeed, 45 may be a "safe" speed, but not when you're trying to merge between two cars that are going 70. It's just dangerous. That causes many, many accidents.

Women, again - if someone is on an access road to a dual carriage way, and they're level with you, and the lane next to you is empty - please - move over and let them on. If you don't move, they're either going to have to speed up or brake. If you're on the access road, and the lane beside me is empty, indeed, I will move over and let you on.

Also - people that slam on their breaks on the access road when there's virtually no traffic on the motorway, yet there are people following behind them. I've seen people STOP dead before now, and there's no need for it. Are they trying to be safe or something? It causes accidents. Reminds me of a Goofy cartoon where he's trying to get on the motorway, he stops on the access road and causes a huge pile up. :1orglaugh

In this country, on the motorway, speed limit is 70. Sometimes there are cops parked on the grass looking for speeders. Women and old people, when you see a cop, there's no need to slow down to 40. The limit is 70.

People don't pull out in front of buses and 8-wheelers. But if it's a compact? I don't know what makes people think that the laws of physics don't apply to them. If you're going to pull out suddenly in front of a moving car, WHATEVER the size, without looking, don't be surprised if it doesn't stop. The car heading towards you may be a compact, but the fact of the matter is, it's travelling just as fast as any other car and it takes just as long to stop.

Those thin sheet of steel doors on your shitty sedan is the only thing seperating you and your family from a 2500lb compact lump of speeding metal and glass. I'm fine... I've got the whole hood in front of me. But when it hits you, it's going to snap your bones and break you in half just as easily as a truck would. I'm trying to keep the insurance down and keep a clean license, but you fucking kamikaze clowns making it REAL hard work. You're not invincible, you morons. :321GFY

NinjaSteve 12-05-2003 11:42 AM

radar detectors work wonders, and if you are driving locally you can spot where cops usually hover around.
