Well, I'm on the verge of joining the military. I still would like to explore my options. So, here's my final adult proposition (no pun intended):

If you can show me how to make $4,000.00 per month or more, I will give you exactly half of whatever I make in exchange for your guidance. I'm experienced in webmastering, so it's not starting from scratch. Contracts can be made for this arrangement.

I'm simply asking because I'm tired of having bad luck and I keep taking the wrong turns. I'm about to sell my sites, and it would be nice to have someone send me down the right path to avoid a mistake I may be making by joining the service so I can afford college.

OK.. gonna state some of the obvious stuff:

(a) Know who you partner with. There are strengths and weaknesses in different areas of web stuff. If you are good at graphics, you don't need a partner that does this as well, when you may need someone with SE promotion experience.

(b) Sort the money cut out and stick to it. Also agree to a number of hours a week each.

(c) It takes funds to earn funds - don't expect some "magic" just because you have another pair of hands.

(d) Why think at a $4K/month level?? Assess what you can do in practical terms and head for it.

(e) Nothing turns out the way you want it to be, - adapt and roll with the flow.

I can't believe there's not one serious person amid all of the successful people that hang out here who does'nt see the benefit in profiting from the simple, no-hassle job of imparting knowledge to someone else.

It amazes me that someone can have 2000+ posts on a board like this and not be making any money. The information is all out there for free and there are tons of boards where people will help newbies out with really good info. $4K a month is only about 5 sign ups a day - you need to spend less time posting and more time reading, learning and building.

Yeah, I've told myself the very same thing and have heard it a million times. That's why I post like crazy for a few months, and then dissappear for another few. I've read, and studied, and spent, and tried, and burned out and tried it all out over and over again.

I understand the game, it makes sense to me. When applying it, however, I mean what I say:

I have had bad luck. I have wasted too much money.

It's not about laziness, it's about consequences dictating my course of action.

You're posting at the wrong board - you really do need to ask for help at one of the newbie boards, TNB or Voltar's. This board is good for a laugh and for getting general industry news, but you're not going to get the kind of help you need here.

K! Basically there are two types of "webmasters".

First is, they have been in the biz for 4 years of more and are already 1000 steps ahead. They could not afford to take time to spend on education since there is no way this could be returned.

Second are ... a considerable volume of "newbies". I know, with the exception of a rare few, they do not earn any viable funds from net activity. (But suppose what is viable to others may be a different story - depends on your comfort level.)

This is not a business that is some easy way to pull in some $$'s when you have basically little to start with in marketing ability, "net" experience and funding.

On possibly a more constructive side.. First is you need some marketing and promotional ability. This is probably 90% of the job. Front ends, design of sites, html crap is nothing in comparison. All that is assumed in the first instance.

Basically if you partner with someone in the same position as yourself, you will need funding or remain with some "day job" till you progress. The "anti" to that is it takes PLENTY hours and months to see any return. If you are "stuck" with a day job, this is going to take longer.

PS.. Sure would ... even for some perverse thrill... love to "start again" - but it would be insane to dump a load of revenue down the drain!

I really hate to see someone join the military JUST to pay for college. What is your time frame? How soon do you need some extra cash? I already know you want to work your ass off but even the projects I'm working currently don't have a set deadline. You have my info, send me an email or something man. If it comes down to you going to the military to pay for college I'm sure we can figure SOMETHING out. I just don't know about it being something in a week or two. Not having to work makes you pretty lazy on some fronts.

Hey J, I'm not at home right now, otherwise I'd be on ICQ. I'm not in any kind of financial bind or anything like that, you know me, man. We've talked about this before.

It bothers me that all I'm doing is working my FT job and nothing else. No school. So no, no time frame, I'd just rather not keep saving money for a few months, then go to school for a quarter, then quit and save money for a few months, and go for another quarter. I've been out of high school for 4 years, and I've only got a little over a year done of school. It fucking sucks.

I really don't want to be finally grabbing my masters when I'm 42 while working at a fucking copy shop or a gas station or some bullshit.

Na.. you sure don't need to join any military to earn your way thru college - just be persistant as hell and screw the "design" and pump most of your efforts into promotion!

Think this... once decent page that can, say produce $500/month from 20K hits, just needs 160K hits to do that $4K/month you wanted.

I'm not on ICQ either. I went to a wedding rehearsal today and came home to an 86 degree house. Got to get a fan motor for the a/c. I'm swamped this weekend but I'll be on from time to time and at night. All the time again starting Monday.

Actually, I take that back. About 4-5 months is my time-frame to start making a significant income to afford school.

That's the time I've given myself before joining to clean up old debts, reduce monthly payments and get back in shape for stress of boot camp.
