republicans are such small minded loosers.

bronco67 09-30-2013 07:07 PM

Even if it gets fixed tomorrow, the Republicans will have their little victory. They'll bring the votes when it comes back from the Senate one more time and pass the government and Obamacare funding.

Then they'll convince their redneck constituents they fought bravely to kill that big, bad Obamacare that's going to destroy their already pathetic lives with affordable healthcare. They're childish little bitches.

Helix 09-30-2013 07:14 PM

Obamacare is a prechecked hidden cross sale

Minte 09-30-2013 07:17 PM

Does anyone know if there is anything in obamacare that will prevent emergency rooms from treating people that don't have insurance?

If not, what exactly is going to change, beyond the fact that the government now has another tax for the middleclass.

Ask your mom but I believe they are funded by the feds and distributed by the counties.

I was going to ask your mother but her EBT comes in Nigerian pesos and not likely to be impacted by US government shutdown.

Social security, EBT, welfare, disability any of those kinds of things including government pensions will all be paid out.

There are only two people who won't get paid. Some government works will have their offices closed so they won't be going into work and soldiers will not get paid.

In both cases when the shutdown ends they will get paid for the shutdown days.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that there is not anything in Obamacare preventing emergency rooms from treating non-insured people.

One thing that will change, in theory, is that it looks like I will be able to buy better insurance than what I have now for about the same money. Mind you this is just me putting my info in the calculator and it telling me what the cost is going to be, but that cost is for what they consider a mid level policy which will be better than the catastrophic only policy I have now and it will, again in theory, only cost me about $30 per month more.

The calculator reflects the silver plan which is the bottom plan available if you're over 30 yrs old.
The bronze plan is only available in certain states and only to people under 30 and it's a catastrophic only plan.

I work at a small motorcycle shop. My wife works at a huge billion dollar medical device company as a temp. Neither of us make much money at our jobs. But that's the market where we live.
Our insurance is $355 according to that same calculator.
It's a $355 bill we can't afford.
That's all there is to it in my house.
I don't know what the answer is but I don't want it and can't afford it at this point. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

You are correct sir! :thumbsup

EddyTheDog 09-30-2013 08:45 PM

It all sounds very undemocratic to me - The Republicans seem to have decided to punish the voters for being stupid enough to vote for Obama...

I'm pretty sure that's not the way it is meant to work.....

I was watching some idiot on FOX news showing a live feed of Seattle and Philly, and he said "it looks like the lights are still on, and everything is ok for now."

Some of us will lose money in the markets because of this bullshit. I know my 401k will get hammered.

Maybe not for long though. As long as the news is bad, the fed will keep buying bonds keeping interest rates so low we have nowhere else to invest. Propping up stocks.

But if we run dry on 10/17, Will that mean a treasury default? If nobody buys treasuries, Maybe the fed can continue buying all them up?

Sadly, though, that is how it works.

In 1990 my state passed a ballot measure that put a cap on the amount of property taxes they could charge you. The cap was a percent, for example 5% of the value of your house, and it can't go up without a vote of the people. There have been a few votes, but they have failed.

So, how do they get around it? They raise the value of your property. Property values in the little town I grew up in have gone through the roof. The house I grew up in was a single level 4 bedroom (the 4th bedroom was so small you would never use it for a bedroom). It wasn't very big, but it had a nice backyard with a creek behind it. My mom bought the house in 1983 for about $36K. She sold it in 1994 for about $40K (after my brother and I were grown and gone). Last year I happened to be out there and drove by it. I saw it was for sale. Out of curiosity I looked it up. They were now selling it for $235K. That is freaking ridiculous.

Captain Kawaii 09-30-2013 09:39 PM

Blue Cross in California raised their rates by 39% this year. I assume it is still in effect.
The feds as a whole are a criminal enterprise. Not surprised any of this is happening.

Guys can you all start keeping a log of what websites you visit and who you email?
We will need to spy on ourselves for the next couple of weeks.

Seriously, this sort of thing should be immediate reelection time.

Choopa_Pardo 10-01-2013 05:29 AM

I think Universal Healthcare is a great thing, and everyone should be covered.

I dont think Obamacare is the right plan for this country however. It's really hard to not be cynical in this country.

Did you count the subsidy that it provides in that $300 figure? Obamacare basically targeted exactly at you

Oh no not a possible compromise. This is how it use to work before government turned into a total clusterfuck, maybe working together isn't the problem? Maybe it's just the extreme polarization brought on by fun things like unlimited money to buy ads with

You must have missed Reid last night on the news.. He told the country that the congress can shove a compromise up their collective arses.
