Keurig Rocks!

I am late to the party but it is totally amazing.

bronco67 09-26-2013 03:31 PM

Try the Starbucks.

SilentKnight 09-26-2013 05:42 PM

The wife and I figure we've saved at least $1700-1800 bucks in the last year with our Keurig.

We always just bought Tim Hortons coffee at $1.60 for a large cup. Between her and I we'd usually go through about five cups a day.

We get the K-cups for about .73 cents (cheaper if you buy'em online).

Saves us nearly $5/day.

slapass 09-26-2013 05:45 PM

I was thinking that mt dew is .30/ each but the sugar content is huge so even with two tsp per I am saving calories and at about .25/ each as an expense.

Also saving as my roommates makes a big pot of coffee and use one cup.

The Keurig has shifted my idea of a cup of coffee from the 8 oz cup I get at Dunkin, to a smaller, stronger cup of coffee. It doesn't do big cups strong enough for me.

2MuchMark 09-26-2013 06:27 PM

I love my Keurig Coffee maker and they're a good company to deal with too. The earlier models had a smaller rubber pipe inside that delivered hot water and it and or the pump got clogged down. I called to ask what could be done and they shipped me a brand new unit for free. About a year later the same issue happened again and they sent me another one.

I'm discovering new coffees too. My favourite so far is "Timothy's Breakfast blend". Perfections.

Same here but if you watch closely you'll see why. On the largest cup setting the water turns from dark coffee colour to clear water color at the end. Basically the k cups just aren't made for big cups of coffee so you end up with a more bitter-tasting coffee when you select the large cup brew. I always set mine for medium.

Phoenix 09-26-2013 06:31 PM

I prefer to buy beans myself. I get them at a grocery store and mix 95% breakfast blend with about 5% flavoured ones.
I think it is much cheaper for one, but the main thing is i kept getting an odd taste from our individual coffee maker. I spent 300 on it then hated it after..lol

When i get back to Canada i am going to invest in a large espresso maker, professional style. I know someone with a large italian market that imports them, so i will get a good deal. :)

You could always use two K-cups per large cup you brew...but that defeats the savings somewhat.

Most times I just use a single K-cup (on large setting), take it out after the first brew, crinkle it a bit to loosen up the coffee grounds...then turn it 180 degrees to run it again on small setting. (does that make sense? lol). The large/small combo perfectly fills my thermal cup to the right level.

Courtney_Kellfind 09-26-2013 06:36 PM

I hate those things.
I haven't used one in years, but it was always way too weak.
I use a french press, with freshly ground beans every morning. I'm also insane and make "Bulletproof Coffee", which if you haven't heard of it, is coffee (preferably brewed using single estate, washed beans instead of the usual fermented process), with coconut or MCT oil, 2-4 tbsp of unsalted grassfed butter and for me a few drops of liquid stevia.
It's amazing.

If I want to make a bigger cup, I do what you said -- except I put in half a pack of Starbucks Via to pump it up a little.

Anyone use Nectresse instead of sugar(or mixed with sugar)? It's not too bad in coffee.

Stevia will ruin a coffee, but Nectresse tastes kind of nice.

slapass 09-26-2013 06:39 PM

I only drinker flavored coffee so all of the complaints sort of miss me. I love have 30 options and teas etc in minutes.

Check the calories in a tsp of sugar. It is so low that it is not worth changing in my opinion.

Edit: 16 calories

Are you using a liquid stevia extract or a powder like Truvia? Truvia is terrible, the liquid stuff allows a lot more control, it gets sweet really, really fast and has a weird after taste if you use too much.

Developed a taste for black only coffee back in my military days.

Never changed.

Sugar is bad for you in many ways, and one of them is not calories.

Nectresse isn't Stevia. It's Monk fruit.

Stevia just doesn't work in coffee for my tastes. The first time I tried it, I thought about spitting it out and smashing my coffee cup on the granite in a blind rage.

Not a fan of corn syrup but sugar cane sugar is pretty benign or so I thought. Anyways based on the calorie count a tsp of sugar is way down on the list for quantity of sugar. A can of Mt Dew is 170 calories or 10-11 tsp's of sugar. So I am ahead by a lot after having switched over.

Now the internal debate is Coke Zero versus flavored coffees. Coffee has been around for ever and doesn't have much in the way of bad press and everyone agrees that the chemical soup that is diet pop is probably not good for you.

beerptrol 09-27-2013 04:36 AM

I'll stick with my 12 cup and 2 cup coffee makers

RebelR 09-27-2013 04:57 AM

Why not use the my K-cup that comes with the unit and buy a can of Tim Hortons coffee? That's what we do since the wife only likes timmes. I prefer dark roast in a French press, but the Keurig is great for those times when only one cup of coffee is needed.

Panty Snatcher 09-27-2013 04:58 AM

if u like the K cups

move to a nesspresso machine and go with the capsules, I think this is the best out there for single cup machines

ShowMe69 09-27-2013 05:18 AM

Man I love my Keurig , you just can't beat it

Elli 09-27-2013 09:15 AM

We got one of those Tassimo machines for Christmas a few years ago. I don't get the point. What is so hard about tossing beans in the grinder and then pouring boiling water into a french press? Seriously, it's not rocket science. And it tastes so much fresher...

Kenny B! 09-27-2013 09:28 AM

I prefer my tassimo but that's only because I'm a light weight and drink cappuccinos

Vegas Ken 09-27-2013 09:44 AM

I just got one. Enjoying it so far :)

Not talking about the raw calories. Basic refined table sugar causes insulin resistance, which can make your fat cells pick up more fat and hold onto it longer -- among many other things. I can't out cut sugar out totally, but in the past I seemed to get most of it from my coffee.

Benign is the opposite of what sugar is.

because instead you just press a button and it magically makes coffee

kristin 09-27-2013 10:04 AM

I have 30 some flavors. I put the cup in and hit brew. Done. Someone wants a different flavor. Boom. Wants tea? Boom. Hit chocolate? Boom. I drank 2 different flavors of coffee and tea today. It is super convenient.

They have an attachment on the Keurig that allows for you to use your own fresh ground coffee. From your favorite beans. :)

It's cool but, there's 2 big things for me why I don't like it, well 3.

1. It's not recyclable, yeah I know I'm a bit of a nerd.
2. I don't trust this cheap tin plastic, most of them contain Bisphenol which is carcinogen
3. I don't like the taste.

So I use a saeco odea go machine, with fresh coffee it's awesome

San Francisco Bay uses a filter on the bottom instead of the plastic cup, which I have to think is much better.

SBJ 09-27-2013 10:26 AM

Love mine! I make a Caramel Vanilla Cream daily. I hate hot coffee so I make mine iced with whipped topping. I use the medium setting as the ice melts and dilutes it to a tall.

I use to drink a lot of red bull for energy but this is cheaper and it gives me the kick I need.

SBJ 09-27-2013 10:32 AM

BTW while we are on the subject does anyone own one of these? If so what do you think of it?

Keurig Rivo

That's a good point. The flavours are nice. But I also like the flavour syrups that I can get for $3 from the store..

And tea from a pod? seriously? Just throw some leaves into my tea ball and pour boiling water over top...

Sarah_Jayne 09-27-2013 11:54 AM

Get one of the reusable cups for the machine that you can use regular coffee grounds in and save even more.

I'd say I've cut sugar out of my diet by at least 98%. I even eat fruit only once a week. Grains (usually white rice) about 2 times a week.

deltav 09-27-2013 04:00 PM

All you need is some fresh whole beans from a good roaster, a French press, and a grinder.

A little practice with that & you'll blow away any of those silly machines with their prepackaged proprietary capsules.
