My Dad and his car were in Hulk Hogan's "No Holds Barred" :thumbsup They were filming at his office and wanted to use his car and somehow he ended up in an office scene. It's probably the worst movie ever made, lol!

My cousin was a news anchor in Cast Away, but that's because she's a news anchor.

I've not been in anything - I only brush up to greatness :(

Makingcoin 02-24-2003 11:03 PM

My line was 'Pass the ketchup!'

If you would live in NYC you pretty much would be able to be an extra in many upcoming movies almsot on a weekly basis

Jak 02-24-2003 11:04 PM

OK, along these lines...

Who here is actually seriously pursuing an acting career, going to classes, auditioning for parts, etc?

/me raises hand.

I could never do that.... I would suck horribly at acting.

it is cool

freaked my college buddies out when they went to see Body Parts and a close up of me filled the screen for about 3 seconds

but i prefer to now work behind the scenes

although working as an extra gave me the opportunity to share a few smokes with Uma Thurman (not a scene in the movie), :Graucho to get knocked on my ass by Brian Brown (a scene in the movie), :( to hear Goldie Hawn swear like a sailor (not in the movie) :1orglaugh and to share a live stage with the Kids In The Hall :thumbsup

eroswebmaster 02-24-2003 11:10 PM

I was an extra in the Movie the abyss...but they cut the scenes out of the version released to the theatres, however it's still in the directors cut.

You can't see me all that well because there was about 50 of us.

Anyway it's the scene on the beach where people are running from the huge tidal wave.

To be an extra in Hollywood is a shit job. You get paid (87-89 rates) like $50-$70 a day MIGHT include a sack lunch. They treat you like you're the biggest fucking idiot to walk the planet, and I guess you are because you're doing this kind of shit work.

I only did this one job because the company I worked for used this small agency that provided extras and they needed some help.

Mutt 02-24-2003 11:10 PM

maybe for one day AMP but movie sets are incredibly boring, been on a few of them. One 30 second scene can basically take all day or all night.

tell me about it

we're shooting a tv commercial this week and a 60 second spot is going to take 4 full days of shooting

but the art department ROCKS!

btw - if you do decide to get extra work, ask for a voucher rather than a cash payout - you make more money

on a one day shoot with Cronenberg on Naked Lunch, i made about 350 dollars, which was pretty good money back in those days

Amputate Your Head 02-24-2003 11:14 PM

i would guess that on a movie set there's probly alot of waiting around...

Craft Services (the food truck) becomes your best friend

the expression often heard on the set is, "hurry up and wait"

i'm sure RedShoe has a ton of stories to share about the movie experience

it's like working as a stage magician and learning how all of the tricks operate, the magic soon disappears

but it's a love of labor and i really LOVE making movies and television shows

MAGNET 02-24-2003 11:23 PM

/me raises hand.

I spent 5 years working for a couple of German commercial, and film producers.

Some of my duties were production management, location scouting, did some offline video editing work, managed casting as well as put together casting reels, and show reels.

Anyway when I first moved to "Hollywood," this was my big dream, to be an actor. I was doing stand up comedy in Texas, and Oklahoma and thought I'd make an attempt at the big time.

Went to some open mic nights and got screwed around, end up going on at like 2 am with only 2-3 real customers the rest are other comics and some of them are sitting there with pads and pens writing down your best material.

I said fuck it and stuck it out working my way up with the company I was working for.

Managing casting sessions, and editing the casting reels to present to clients etc, I got to see firsthand on a daily basis how demeaning this whole process can be.

Imagine spending your day 8-10 hours running around from audition to audition pretending to eat an invisible candy bar, drink an invisible soft drink, or drive an invisible car all the while having a stupid ass grin on your face so you look like you enjoy it.

I watched these people knowing full well that their 15 minutes of fame would more than likely be a regional ad and possibly a national ad for someone like Colgate and that's it.

The money can be good, I've had friends live for years off of residuals from 1 ad. One good friend of mine got paid $30k a year just so they could use her 5 second spot where she eats some yoplait yogurt and smiles...LOL

But spots like that are few and far between.

Mutt 02-24-2003 11:37 PM

i've seen the foley guys work, amazing what they do, unheralded part of movie making.

also saw a very cool piece on some show about the guy who is THAT VOICE you hear narrating like half of the movie trailers for the biggest movies. Just weird to see this guy sitting in his little studio and THAT voice coming out of him.

Remember the Lou Grant show? His boss on the show, character actor named Mason Adams, used to be the top voice over guy for trailers in the 80's.

So much of movie making today is done after the shooting is done, what happens on the set and on location is just the skeleton and basics to start creating movie magic. Actors all have to come back and do their dialogue over again in a sound studio too. Maybe not every actor but the lead actors go back to do 'looping'.

goBigtime 02-24-2003 11:37 PM

In elementary school I got in a fight with George Foreman's oldest (I'm pretty sure) Jr.

Does that count?

Hmm now that I think about it, Rae Carruth went to that school too.
