Why are Canada Goose jackets so expensive?

Canada Goose has been manufacturing outerwear in Canada since 1947. The garments have been popular in Scandinavia since 1998 and became popular in Canada in about 2008.

Like many world-leading brands, our success has led to our products being copied by counterfeiters. http://www.canada-goose.com/counterfeit/

O marina! Aren't you Canadian? We had a meeting about this last week and you didn't show up. The jackets are expensive because the ducks we get the down from our government workers. We are only able to get them to work 3 hours per day.

Phoenix 11-27-2012 07:28 AM

made in canada mang :)

Evil Chris 11-27-2012 07:31 AM

Because they are suddenly popular in the past couple of years.

Before that it was the Kanuk jackets. http://www.kanuk.com/

I missed this meeting. I was shopping duh!
So why are the goose jackets NOT subsidized????
If people could afford this they would be happier and warmer waiting for bus to go to work no? This will create more jobs.

troncarver 11-27-2012 07:45 AM

Yes, you missed the meeting, and you were supposed to bring the Timmies. Its OK, Bill from Vancouver and Joe from Moosejaw weren't there either. But to stay on point, If they were subsidized, then they would have to either raise taxes higher than what they currently are, or pull funds from the Canadian Military, so we'd most likely have to forgo a used British Nuclear Submarine or two. If that happens, then the Royal Canadian Navy would have to take one, or all, of the submarines from the West Edmonton Mall to compensate. You wouldn't want that kind of blood on your hands would you?

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAH you understand.

Mutt 11-27-2012 08:03 AM

they're so expensive because that's what the company is producing and marketing - a luxury brand. they don't want everybody to buy/afford them, they want everybody to want them, making the people who can afford them feel better about themselves because they are wearing something others want but can't afford.

those coats i'm sure are very high quality but they could be sold at half the price and still at a profit but it wouldn't be a luxury brand anymore.

Sophie Delancey 11-27-2012 08:19 AM

I've never been a fan. I love longer coats, so my TNA baby is the way to go.

Luxury brand - Fair enough but they even seem to be insulated(?) different. They are made much thinner. Like other down filled jackets you wear, they are very heavy/thick and make you look like you are a white polar bear. You know?
Please send trade secrets of thin warm Canada Goose jacket and your explanation.

PR_Glen 11-27-2012 08:35 AM

mostly just marketing and the fact it costs a fortune to manufacture anything in canada.

Jman I cannot rely on your off the truck pest geese dealer to keep me warm!!
They have a good tool if buying the jackets online, you can check if the retailer is authentic and if it's an authorized retailer. Pretty cool :thumbsup http://www.canada-goose.com/counterfeit/

I seem to remember a trend though with the Urban youth wearing them in the middle of summer though.. I think it was late 90's or early 2000's. Goose down Parka, work boots (with the laces undone) and one pant leg up.. and one down, in the middle of July. I'm wondering how the hell they pulled that off when I sweat balls in one in the 4 days of the year it's actually needed.

In the 90's it was called BUMMER jackets, like hello, cheap stuff!!

Canada Goose has only really been popular for the last few years or so.

Ryley 11-27-2012 09:02 AM

I had a Canada Goose a few years ago. I got rid of it, because I was tired of wearing the same thing as everyone else. I have not found anything comparable to it. On cold mornings it's almost as if you have not left your bed!

Makaveli 11-27-2012 09:06 AM

Had mine now for about 3 years. You could could go out topless under it in -40 and wouldn't feel a thing. Drawback, your hot as shit when you get inside the mall or where ever you're going.

JayDeeZee 11-27-2012 09:09 AM

Because of the dozens of geese and coyote they need to kill to make them.

SexKey Scott 11-27-2012 09:19 AM

Tidbit - "Wawa is a family-run business, the employees of Wawa also hold a relatively large percentage of stock. Most Wawas are open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The chain's name comes from the site of the company's first milk plant and corporate headquarters in the Wawa, Pennsylvania area. The name of the town Wawa is in turn derived from the Ojibwe word for the Canada Goose (taken from "The Song of Hiawatha").[8] An image of a goose in flight serves as the Wawa corporate logo"

shake 11-27-2012 09:20 AM

I first heard about them from people spamming my blogs with their knockoffs for sale :2 cents:

sperbonzo 11-27-2012 09:22 AM

I'm pretty sure that Canadian Geese are unionized. That's your problem, right there....

Nick-Mindgeek 11-28-2012 10:03 AM

You cant go 1 min in Montreal without seeing a Canada Goose Jacket in Winter.
Can't deny their quality but they are def not original anymore.

There are more expensive stuff out there these days making CG look like a deal.

These Parajumpers seem to be catching on:
