What do you do when you dont like any of the logos someone presents to you?

I had someone do some logos for me, we spend a full hour on the phone talking about what I wanted in ideas.
It took a month (!!!) and he came back with over 70 different mockups and I didnt like any of them.
The colors are all off, many of the fonts are what I told him I didnt like (Cursive, futuristic)
The logo I already have now is better.

lol, I gave him $100 deposit. I kind of want to say "Just keep it, im going to go with a different designer"

What do you do? Do you keep going with him, or just let him go?

to be fair this is just a first mockup to see what I like, give it another chance or cut the cord?

teennutsuckers 08-07-2012 04:53 PM

find some one new

machinegunkelly 08-07-2012 04:59 PM

I'd find someone new... and let him keep the $100.

70 mock ups and not one you like?
let's see em.

CYF 08-07-2012 05:02 PM

70 mockups seems like a lot to me! If you don't like any of them enough to suggest small changes and get a good logo, I'd look somewhere else.

Colmike9 08-07-2012 05:06 PM

If you're looking for another designer, let me know at [email protected]

I guarantee if you don't like it you'll even get the deposit back :upsidedow

Spunky 08-07-2012 05:11 PM

Yell and scream at him and demand satisfaction, until he/she starts crying

ErectMedia 08-07-2012 08:23 PM

would think out of 70 something would at least give ya a feel of what ya want with some modifiication directions, if your staring at 70 and don't see a future in any of them would probably pick someone else :2 cents:

papill0n 08-07-2012 08:25 PM

cant follow basic instructions from the beginning = danger will robinson

FetishAssetsCom 08-07-2012 08:41 PM

I would move on and next time spend more time on providers portfolio before ordering anything :)

some clients can't GIVE basic instructions from the beginning... even though they think they have.

I've worked with Marcus ( If he's the Marcus I think he is) before though, and I'm sure that's not the case, if I remember right he was painless to work for..:2 cents:

CurrentlySober 08-08-2012 03:14 AM

Ditch Him and Use MGK best in the Biz

CourtneyR 08-08-2012 07:59 AM

find someone new. You told them what you were looking for and what you didn't want.

Monique Niccole 08-08-2012 10:34 AM

Ditch him/her and move on.

Next time, however, I would suggest writing up a creative brief. That way at least you have something in writing that they didn't follow the directions that you explicitly wrote down.

sperbonzo 08-08-2012 11:12 AM

You walk to them and say:

"I break with thee!"
"I break with thee!"
"I break with thee!"

and then you throw dog poop on their shoes....

loreen 08-08-2012 11:26 AM

Did he just sent 70 mockups in one email?
Or you asked for modifications over and over again until you had 70 variations?

I just find it incredible :)
I would have sent you your money back after 10 tries :)

CyberHustler 08-08-2012 11:28 AM

70 though? :1orglaugh

bean-aid 08-08-2012 11:35 AM

Wow, I suppose I don't put that much value on the logo, or I am just lucky when I ask for logos because I wouldn't pay $100 total for one, let alone a deposit. Is it a really big logo?

I like the way you think :winkwink:

spazlabz 08-08-2012 12:37 PM

an hour on the phone should have been more than enough for him to go off of and produce something you like. The fact that he used fonts that you specifically told him you did not want shows a lack of attention to detail. Move on and find someone else to do the work for you.

Deej 08-08-2012 12:37 PM

70 mock ups? jesus!

Id send him another 100 and find someone else.

What I want to know is how does a client not like ANY of 70 mockups.

I mean its either a BUNCH of crap or the client is being picky... not sure. Examples?

Thinking the same thing. I think the guy is a d-bag (OP)

TheSquealer 08-08-2012 01:11 PM

The dude did 70 mockups for pennies and you can't find a direction to go?

Seems pretty obvious where the problem lies.

donkevlar 08-08-2012 01:21 PM

You are the first person in the world to EVER have 70 mockups of one thing. That is absolute insanity.

DamianJ 08-08-2012 01:23 PM

Post the logos

Unless you're a major brand, that requires instant, easy recognition in many places online and/or offline, you don't need a logo. At most all you need is the name of your site in nice and/or distinctive font. (See: Google, Facebook, Yahoo, etc) Livejasmin didn't become one of the most popular porn sites by having a logo.

I'm baffled by the importance some people place on logos, and that they'll actually pay others to create them. They just end up wasting time and money on something unnecessary that almost nobody will even notice, let alone care about.

Did he just spend $50 on a logo contest and you now have all the entries?

bronco67 08-09-2012 01:38 PM

So this guy does 70 mockups and he's only going to end up getting $100? What kind of bottom of the barrel graphic designers are you working with?

Let him go and pay $5.00 here http://fiverr.com

Webmaster Advertising 08-09-2012 03:14 PM

Wow, id have never sent over 70, if we need to send a client that needs a logo 70 mockups there is something seriously wrong, either the designer doesnt know how to listen (me) or the client is just to fussy and will never find one that they 'like'.

Its also a reason why deposits are asked of our clients, because every once in a blue moon, we do have clients that say 'I need a logo for a dog food store' and that is the design brief they give us LOL

No idea on colors, fonts, look or feel, just expect us to come up with something magically they are going to instantly love.

A few weeks back we had a client tell us they wanted a logo making in black font, with purple outer color and a white drop shadow, we sent them over 5 variations based on that they could see to narrow down fonts and they were like 'No, this isnt what I asked for'...

Next day we sent her money back when we got that email, sometimes its just not worth the hassle...
