Actually it is. And I'm a bigger fan of football than soccer, but this is more widely considered football than is American Football, understand?

EDIT: Also, when I said "in the world" you should have understood what sport I was referring to. :)

Shotsie 11-13-2011 10:22 AM

Tom Brady?

Today Messi, this guy needs to play in the top level where he will be marked a lot better to be considered.

The best I ever saw was George Best. Played in a time when defenders kicked Pele out of the World Cup, Maradonna would never of finished a game. Yet GB not only played and played at the top, he left these guys behind with his artistry.

Pele could be kept out of a game. Maradonna had flashes. Messi plays at a time when if you look at him to badly a referee awards a free kick. </joke>

Anyone remember Norman Hunter, Nobby Stiles, Harris of Chelsea, Billy Bonds, the entire Arsenal defense and for that matter the Liverpool defense as well. He played a game that he made look like something magical on pitches that were sand piles or mud heap or rock solid frozen.

Today putting green lawns they call footballs pitches.

And the ball was made of leather that soaked up water, today's plastic coated ball is no comparison.

I was there for that game. He made mince meat of West Ham. And I had spent the day to go watch my team suffer. :(

There are more on Youtube. Go and watch them.

Like this one.

Best striking force I ever seen. Best, Law and Charlton. earning in a year what today's football players earn in a week.

J. Falcon 11-13-2011 11:25 AM

In the U.S. the sport of Soccer is not even close to getting on prime time television. With a growing Spanish population this will change one day.

Mexico = Mexicans

Spain = Spanish

Comprendo?

Si 11-13-2011 02:56 PM

Suarez is good, but not nowhere near Messi (yet) until he breaks records and wins something with liverpool he ain't going to get the title of best in the world anytime soon.

If he keeps getting better, then maybe one day he could be the best. He just isn't consistent at the moment. Playing really well in the Premier League but not getting enough goals.

Messi hasn't done shit on an international level. Suarez already won the American Cup and helped his team classify for 4th best in the world (a ranking which Uruguay now holds).

gotcha, but I guess I meant people from multiple "Spanish speaking" counties who now resident in the U.S. in which soccer is huge in their homeland. People of European decent here will also watch...

Maybe there afraid most of the restaurants will need to close during the games.

rogueteens 11-13-2011 03:28 PM

I'd go for Beckham, an unusual choice i know but he knew what was going on on the field and made some amazing passes to let through the strikers.

And of cause, Keegan, Best and Gazza.

True but Suarez hasn't done shit on a Club level, he's won a few things. Club football in my eyes is a higher calibre anyway.

Lets take Berbatov as an example, he's been one of the best strikers in Europe, it is clear he is a great player but Bulgaria are never going to do anything on a huge scale on the world stage.

Ibrahimovic is another that comes to mind, many of the Dutch players past and present haven't done as good on an international level as they perhaps should have.

Just some examples, could probably go into it further.

He isn't there yet and Messi is the same age. He needs to up his game if he is going to be the best.

Nacho 11-13-2011 04:03 PM

Luis FUCKING Suarez! Goalie And Goaler! ;)

patavax 11-13-2011 04:10 PM

There are so many good football players (or name it soccer as you wish)...
Messi is a very good player, yes indeed I like him too.
But don´t forget in Barcelona he really needs the help of Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta... Cristiano Ronaldo? Sure thing! This season is his best one! Wayne Rooney? World class! I don´t like his style but he´s just world class!

I like Argentinian soccer players! Do you remember Maradona?
But right now there´re a whole lot of very good Argentinians!
OK you will know Messi (I named him before), Ángel Di María of Real Madrid, Carlos Tévez of Manchester City, Gabriel Heinze of Roma, Esteban Cambiasso of Internazionale and Lisandro López of Lyon.
But you will not know (yet) Lucas Biglia and Matías Suárez of RSC Anderlecht... These two will soon be playing in the Premier League or in the Primera Division!
In fact Argentina is my favourite team! I like all those players!

I also like the players of Holland! Arjan Robben and Wesley Sneijder are just amazing!

And I like the Belgian defender Vincent Kompany of Manchester City! He´s just world class. And don´t forget that the Belgians have a world team! They have some great players as Dries Mertens of PSV and Eden Hazard of Lille OSC... But there´re more of them! They have a whole lot of youngsters who´re just world class in the making! Put them on your list for the World Cup in 2014! They will be top 4!

And what about Mbark Boussoufa of Anzji Machatsjkala... Yes I am not joking! This Marocan player is just world class! And don´t forget that Anzji Machatsjkala will win the Euro League or Champions League before 2016!

Luis Alberto Suárez of Liverpool is also world class! Mario Balotelli is a clown but also a very good player... I just love to watch him on the field!

The names here are my favourites!

His undoing was his life style. If only he had been guided better and not crashed and burned so young. I feel myself lucky to have seen him at his prime.

seriously is that true? good on them. Uruguay are good to watch. am i right in thinking they missed out on the world cup final due to the Dutch cheating? i may have that wrong though.

but come on. Messi is just incredible, just see his record and when you see him with the ball at the stadium you are on the edge of your seat.

i saw a game in amsterdam and saw saurez's wife.... hot!!!

another one to watch out for is Agüero.

fucking south america and their unbelievably good players.

At least they use their feet more than American "football" -- which should be called Passball.

cykoe6 11-13-2011 10:18 PM

Xavi has been the main force on teams that won the Champions League 3 times the UEFA Euro and the World Cup. He is the best player in the world. He is the one setting the table for Messi.

Messi probably, Iniesta or Ronaldo maybe, but Suarez isn't even in the top 20.

If he was, he would be playing for a better team than Liverpool that is for sure.
