He lives (or lived) only a few miles from me in Leeds, at a locaql park.

I hope Leeds does sothing for him, as he is probably Leeds's bigest celeb.

I wonder who will get his penthouse as I am not sure he had family.

My first husband was a journalist and interviewed him several times and said he was one of the nicest people he had interviewed.

It was impossible to be in the UK and not know how beloved he was as a persona.

It seems our Jimmy was taters deep in the child abuse scandals in the Jersey childrens homes during the 70's and 80's. Jimmy's "charity work" was always centered around children, you can work out the rest.

This stuff is not difficult to find, I believe that "google" is rife with these alegations.

Saville was a prominent member of a particularly unpleasant ring which seemed to enjoy police protection and had high level masonic members. Most of these people are now dead, but the Jersey cases are very well documented.

As far as i can see, he was only called a paedo because he never married and presented a childrens show. If he really was a kiddy fiddler then the British press would be in it like a shot. Remember this is the same press that hacked and deleted phone messages on a missing schoolgirl.

There's a difference between "knowing" something and "reading it on the internet".

There certainly is - the problem is that what you "know" is based on what you have decided is the truth. A truth based upon the information available to you. So if you have decided, (based upon your fond memories of the carefully cultivated TV persona) that Mr Saville was just misunderstood that is up to you.

However I am factoring in the evidence other than my fond reminisences of the quirky TV personality.

I haven't decided anything. I prefer the "innocent until proven guilty" way of doing things. Was he ever charged with anything, or even arrested?

Gents can we have some sanity into the debate here.

For the last 20 years Jimmy Saville's "interesting" sexual preferences have been a running joke. An open secret. Everything from "he liked them young" to the more unpleasant stories/rumours/allegations regarding funeral homes and indeed the Jersey cover up.

However he was also very well known for being extremely litigious. Expect to see all of this filling the tabloids over the coming days now that he is dead.

What amazes me is that so many of you are horrified at the prospect of your hero being tarnised. I am sorry if your hazy reinisences of your 70's childhoods have been shattered.

I suppose you all think OJ was innocent, Michael just wanted to heal the world, and Gary Glitter had a dodgy hard drive.
