Shamu Eats Trainer at Sea World

I've been watching this on the news, surpried I'm the first to make a post about it.

Quote:

A killer whale killed a trainer Wednesday afternoon at SeaWorld's Shamu Stadium in Orlando, Florida, a public information officer for the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The woman, 40, was in the whale holding area about 2 p.m. when "she apparently slipped or fell into the tank and was fatally injured by one of the whales," Jim Solomons said.

But a witness told CNN affiliate WKMG-TV that the whale approached the glass side of the 35-foot-deep tank at Shamu Stadium, jumped up and grabbed the trainer by the waist, shaking her so violently that her shoe came off.

Not sure how you arrived at that, but no indication she was eaten either.

La_Sexorcist 02-24-2010 04:32 PM

I heard about this just a few hours ago! I wonder how traumatized all of the kids in the audience are going to be! :P

RyuLion 02-24-2010 04:38 PM

Always believe the news 100%?

BFT3K 02-24-2010 04:40 PM

Two words...

"Killer Whale"

brassmonkey 02-24-2010 04:41 PM

lesson learned stay out of water with killer whales in it

CosmicTang 02-24-2010 04:49 PM

Orcas are actually the largest species of dolphins. So, "Killer Dolphin". Perhaps it's better not to keep wild animals in captivity.

SmokeyTheBear 02-24-2010 05:08 PM

They dont call them killer whales for nothing...

Just think for a moment how you would feel if you had all the space in the world to move around in, then some asswipe captures you and puts you in a room 20 square for the rest of your life ?
Me, id be fucking chewing anything and anyone in site :error

ShellyCrash 02-24-2010 07:05 PM

Last I have heard / read Sea World is saying she slipped and fell into the tank and it was an accident, people who were actually in the audience are saying the whale did a quick dash around the tank, circled back around, jumped up and grabbed the trainer by the waist and took her down.

JaneB 02-24-2010 07:11 PM

I have to agree with PETA on this statement from the story.

A spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals called the death "a tragedy that didn't have to happen."

Jaime Zalac said the organization had called on SeaWorld "to stop confining oceangoing mammals to an area that to them is like the size of a bathtub, and we have also been asking the park to stop forcing the animals to perform silly tricks over and over again. It's not surprising when these huge, smart animals lash out."

Spunky 02-24-2010 07:15 PM

Free Willy, the whales are pissed off

It kind of looks like a dolphin, doesn't it. Except a dolphin doesn't kill people.

It appears that killer whale was also involved in two other incidents.

It killed a man who snuck into the park at night, and it killed a trainer in BC in the early 90s. They said that death was also "accidental".. but you gotta wonder.

They always say when an animal gets a taste of human blood they can no longer be trusted.

I don't think they should destroy it, but they certainly should remove it from performing.

I would like to see Sea World build out some type of retirement reserve for it's aquatic life the way alot of other companies that profit of wild animals have. They could even bring in tourists as long as they do it the right way, kind of like Big Cat rescue if any of you have ever heard of that. :2 cents:

PornstarXS 02-24-2010 10:05 PM

something smells fishy. i suspect something fishy. sounds like fishy business.

KillerK 02-25-2010 01:12 AM

Why don't they give it a 10 minute head start and let the Japanese hut the fucker down.

John-ACWM 02-25-2010 03:52 AM

This also happened in another thread :1orglaugh

The Duck 02-25-2010 04:11 AM

So sad. They are called KILLER whales for a reason though.

TurboAngel 02-25-2010 05:55 AM

It's sad for sure but that just goes to show they are animals and not people.

You are wrong. Dolphins kill way more people than killer wales. :2 cents:

Where are the vids/pics btw??
