Who has Insomnia?

I've had it for about 20 years.
I have a little empire to run and I can never put my brain to sleep.

How the fuck does Obama go to sleep at nights and clear his head?

CYF 10-19-2009 11:47 PM

I've got the same issue. I'll lay in bed for an hour or two sometimes without falling asleep.

I've had it forever, I just tried again, one hour in bed and had to get back on the computer.

JD 10-19-2009 11:51 PM

it comes in waves for me. i'll go a few weeks with the sleep schedule of a meth addict then totally cool for months. shit comes out of no where and really blows

Jakez 10-19-2009 11:53 PM

I have the exact same problem, I could lay in bed for hours tossing and turning. I think it is because the room is TOO quiet?

But I could also lay there forever starring at a TV and not fall asleep.

I finally found a cure for it: I plug some headphones (earphones) into my iPhone and play some music and I'm usually out within the first few songs. Kid Cudi works amazingly, not because it's boring and I fall asleep to it but his stuff just sounds so soothing that I can just relax and fall asleep.

After Shock Media 10-20-2009 12:03 AM

yup have it. switch around between what i take for it depending on how bad it is.

I still want to know how Obama closes his eyes and tells himself to go to sleep. He must have so much shit going on in his head.
I think eating and sleeping are such a waste of time. Maybe if I thought about it as a good thing, it would make it easier to sleep.
It's just crazy, as soon as I lay down to sleep, my brain goes off and starts thinking of everything, good and bad.

CYF 10-20-2009 12:07 AM

I've found have a fan helps somewhat. I even use a fan in the winter. The white noise it produces seems to help me get to sleep better.

Interesting.

Sodas and Coffee play a big part in this.

I have the same problem but I've been quitting after a certain time and ive been sleeping a bit better. Also Exercise is one of the best ways to release built-up energy and help induce tiredness through a natural and healthy approach..I also make a white noise out of my tower fan that circulates air and sound. The colder it is the better i can fall asleep.

You could drink some hot milk or have turkey for dinner that contain tryptophan. *makes you sleepy.

Or if those fail.. Diphenhydramine and Doxylamine.. Any over the counter cold/cough etc has this.. and it's the key ingredient in NyQuil and Robitussim night. Safe alternative instead of taking ambien or other sleeping pills of that such that carries high potential to addiction or withdrawal.

Great info, I'll have to try it. I don't drink soda or coffee. Hot milk doesn't do much, Turkey, that's a new one. I'll have to try it.

Also I tend to lay on my bed with the laptop which doesn't help. Advice that I've read says you should only use the bed for sleeping or fucking.

Yup, tried that too. I don't watch TV in my bed.
But as soon as I lay down. My brain starts.

They also say you aren't suppose to be working or be on the computer at least one hour before bed. But I've had this problem before I got in this biz over 14 years ago.

Jack Sparrow 10-20-2009 12:30 AM

Have it for over 6yrs+ now, i have the extreme version of it.
Been treated for it last year, intensely. Hospital, medications, and a "clinic" that was more like a jail where they monitored my behaviour and brainactivity for 2 weeks straight.

Doing better now.

But im coming from 7-9 days max. without sleep, no sleep at all. So to me every hour is better!

ztik 10-20-2009 12:34 AM

btw I went to bed at 4am I guess this morning, woke up at 5:30 cause phone rang, went to back to sleep at 6 until 8

Guess I got got 3 1/2 hours of sleep, thats about the norm

Now when I take my klonopin the doc gave me I sleep for 10 hours. I only do it on the weekends though cause I feel like im missing work/biz opportunities

Farang 10-20-2009 12:37 AM

I have it. I think It's the 6th day now with no sleep since the last time I took a nap. Long time with no sleep makes people stupid... feels like you're half asleep, half awake. I should go get some more xanax now, yeah.

the real magoo 10-20-2009 12:38 AM

I got it on DVD :thumbsup

After yoga and the gym, I have absolutely no trouble sleeping. Babies don't sleep this well!

Maybe you're not healthy?

Antonio 10-20-2009 01:17 AM

I have the opposite of insomnia, I can sleep any time of the day, I can sleep like a baby for 8 hours, then get up, wash, have breakfast and go back to sleep

Be careful with those - I was taking 1 mg per night to go to bed (not a huge dosage, and worked pretty well especially when I was taking it together with Lunesta, but I stopped Lunesta a couple of years ago).
But apparently long-term usage combined with other meds I had caused me to totally lose it one morning. We're now trying some different stuff that ain't working so hot. :disgust

I follow that one religiouly - along the one that says "don't get into bed unless you're tired enough to fall asleep" and the other one that says "If you don't fall asleep in 30 minutes, get back up and try again later."

Not to knock you. There is not enough tryptophan in warm milk, nor even a full plate of turkey to make someone tired. What makes people tired on Thanksgiving (occasionally other times when they eat turkey) is carbohydrate overload. You are just eating way to many carbs and sugars. Your body gets very tired from it, not the tryptophan. Plus you need to get the tryptophan on an empty stomach with no other amino acids which the turkey contains. Heck soybeans and parmesan cheese contain more of it than turkey does.

Even then if you could get enough tryptophan to make you tired in pure form, it would require a very large amount.

Good info on soda's, caffeine and stuff.

Was a few suggestions posted. Did not catch that you were anti drug. Does that include all herbals too?

Do go with white noise generation. Do set a schedule to be in your sleep room where you sleep only (OK may be hard for some, but lack of TV etc helps). Do block out all lights. Slightly colder temps make people tired as well. Often a fan that will blow on your face every so often will also help keep your eyes closed - or try a mask.

I would suggest 30 minutes or so before hand to drink some herbal tea. Nothing wrong with "sleepy time" brand. I like ones that contain any or all of the following:
lemon balm, lime, st johns wart, chamomile, hops, rose, and most berries.
While slowly drinking and enjoying your tea, jot down in a note pad any pressing thoughts in your head. 30 minutes are up - put away and go to your sleep room.

You should only need 1 - 2 teacups worth. I typically brew a pot for 4 servings, knowing that one of them will most often get wasted between the wife and I.

Just a slight warning. For some valerian root can cause the opposite of getting sleepy. It does appear in many herbal tea's. Nothing wrong with it. Just do not give up on tea all together because of it.

After Shock Media 10-20-2009 02:11 AM

I seriously do try to go the non drug method when possible myself. I just occasionally do need to hit up the Ambien, Valium, and all their friends.

JFK 10-20-2009 02:14 AM

I'm joining the crowd here:winkwink:

uno 10-20-2009 05:49 AM

I want that shit Michael Jackson's doctor dosed him up with every night. If I could be put into a medically induced coma every night it would have to be better than what I do now(never sleep or sleep well).

Spunky 10-20-2009 05:52 AM

I'm lucky if I get 3-4 hours.gotta try that exercise thing

4pleasure 10-20-2009 06:53 AM

I have the same thing. Watching a movie to fall asleep helps.

tranza 10-20-2009 07:17 AM

I've had insomnia lately...it sucks!!

undersoul 10-20-2009 07:51 AM

i did until i learned how to meditate. now i sleep like a baby. :)

LiveDose 10-20-2009 07:59 AM

I have the opposite problem.

TheDoc 10-20-2009 08:07 AM

I know the feeling. I would work 24-48 hours straight just to tire my mind out and force me to sleep.

I have no idea what your diet is... but start with that. Start with cutting all sugar and caffeine, slowly if needed. I can't drink Tea and Soda late at night, or I'm not sleeping.

Outside of that, I meditate. I do it every single night before I go to sleep. If I find my mind is going crazy, I stop... and start to meditate.

I have been doing this for about 5-6 years now. I discovered it while trying to improve my golf game. I could easily shut my mind off for golf, it was pretty much a slap in the head for me after that.

I meditate to clear my mind, no thinking what so ever.. and off to sleep I go within minutes now.
