think of all those old geocities sites that are sitting high in the google serps too, will be gone overnight with no way to salvage them

I never really used geocities. I put together my first site with Tripod. They seem to still be around in some form.

I think yahoo took something valuable and wasted it.

The first mistake was not really putting geocities into the search results hardcore.
I mean, WTF! You have a search engine and you don't bring up webpages with

I have a site up on Geocities. I couldn't access it any more, but it still sent out traffic to a program and I got money from it every month. Bummer.
