Do you get mad if a close friend is always on cell/texting when with you?
Let's just say someone you have known for 10+ years. My friend claims that since we are so close there isn't really a need for formalities and thinks I am weird for getting irritated.
For example, when my friend is at my house; sometimes will receive get a phone call and then proceed go into the bathroom or my bedroom and talk for 25-30 minutes straight. My friend claims that if I were to do the same to them that they wouldn't get irritated and that I am being strange for being annoyed and that most people wouldn't mind, and that some people (referring to themselves obviously) are just "busy" and really "sociable" and therefore can't help it that a lot of people want to converse with them. This friend is also always texting other people when they are with me. This is a childhood friend that I grew up with, I still think it's rude though. Is it rude or is it just me? |
Sounds like your friend knows you pretty well.
|
It's absolutely rude and I'd ditch that 'friend' like a bad habit.
|
|
some people are just addicted
|
I think it's extremely annoying, yes. Answering the phone or a quick text message here and there is not really a big deal if it's somebody that you see quite often, but a full on conversation is a little bit much... unless of course you have been together the whole day or something.
There really are a lot of variables that come into play... but in general, yes, I find it obnoxious. But then again... I'm kind of antisocial. ;-) I think that cell phones allow people to feel like they are important... "oh, somebody wants to talk to me!" |
yeah sometimes i think "wtf are you doing?" - its pretty fucking rude
|
Does your friend spend 5 hours a day at your place, every day, and you basically do nothing? If so, it's probably not that rude. :D
However... If you see them less then perhaps they should be thinking about spending time with the person they've come to see. Maybe mention that (nicely) next time it annoys you. |
My friend has been on the phone for over 40 minutes now in my room with the door locked and im outside on the pc. I don't think this is normal?
My friend insists they are not rude. Perhaps this is how all "sociable" people act, maybe I'm just not used to it? Is it normal to behave like this now? To go to someone else's house and lock yourself in their bedroom and talk for over 40 min? My friend is talking to members of the opposite sex btw, they are starting to date again and becoming whipped and phone addicted. My friend thinks I'm being a possessive and territorial friend by being annoyed and asking "who are you talking to?" etc. |
That is kinda rude, just like a cell phone on a date
|
Are you working on your pc while she is there?

Well, kinda. Around a week ago, they were here almost everyday, my friend would come over every day after work and hang out 4-5 hours with me everyday so I guess that was the only time they had to talk to others, cause the other rest of the day they were at work. I was annoyed with this person about stuff so I told them not to come over this week, but they are over here now and was locking themselves up in my room talking on the phone for almost an hour. We already talked about it, they insisted they were not rude and not going to stop doing it because "some people are busy and have lots of people to talk to". (their words). I only go on the pc because they are on the phone, otherwise I wouldn't, But my friend is irritating me so I'm doing it back by going on the pc now (to do it back to them). And also by talking shit about them on gfy (but they dont know about it though). |

Throw this 'friend' out and don't look back. Your friend can talk to whomever they want for as long as they want AT THEIR HOME. |
"Some people are busy and have lots of people to talk to"
LOL. That's awesome. Since she is so busy, it's probably time she left and take care of all of her busy person things that she needs to do. |
My friend is off the phone now and turned on the tv and said "Aren't you going to watch tv with me". I'm doing it back now by staying on the pc. My friend was on the phone for an hour so I'm gonna stay on the pc for an hour too.

Good advice. Your friend is a rude bitch. |
I would talk to them instead of us.
|
The friend is a girl? bah whocares girls are socially inept some times..
None of my friends do that to me. and if i'm with a girlfriend they will rush the other person off the phone and get back to me. It's definitely rude. I never do that.. If someone calls i'll even go as far as ignoring the person who called.. |
Next thread: Is it rude to post on GFY while your fucking your girlfriend?
|
I don't get mad, but it's definitely rude...

Either you're a lot more boring than you think, or you make friends with ADD crackheads.
|
Baush, your friend obviously sucks. My "childhood friend" who has been my best friend for, like, ever comes down every summer since she moved away. Well she is really annoying now that we are older, it's not like high school! She will talk on the phone for like 20 minutes but I can sort of deal with it as long as she is trying to hurry up the convo (and plus it's her hubby so I try not to get too mad). But if it goes on longer than that, I tell her that she's freaking annoying as hell LOL and she gets off the phone. Honesty works!

I stand corrected :) |
Not so much... busy day and age... I'm constantly checking in through my blackberry despite anything going on around me. Much the same with most of my friends.
|
I dont get mad necessarily, but its super annoying. If you wanna chat/text the whole time, just stay home.:2 cents:
|
That reminds me, my cousin spent most of my wedding reception texting his new girlfriend (who wasn't invited)
Enjoy the free food while you chat with your girl... :D |
Sounds just like dat'n gold brandon 99 when we used to go to lunch...
|
If I were you, it wouldn't bother me so much she was on the phone but WTF - she's locked herself in your room? What business does she have locking herself in your room?
My room is too 'dear' to me to have someone else locked in there, probably poking around while chitchatting on the phone heheheh For the record, it wouldn't bother me if they are yacking on the phone, but depending on the situation - if they do it everytime they are with me, then obviously, they should be elsewhere. The next time she's been dumped by her BF and want to hang, I'll remind her to shut her phone before coming over.. |

On the other hand, if someone calls me in the same situation, i usually tell them ill call them back. Thats the polite way of doing things. |
i dont mind it if im doing nothing and hanging out, but when you are trying to get shit done with your friends, it's annoying as fuck
