Serious Question: No Liars Please

honestly, how many people here will be leaving adult in the next six months if things don't improve?

secondly, what will you be leaving to? mainstream? off net job?

Darkhorse 06-07-2008 09:44 PM

Not me.....

After Shock Media 06-07-2008 09:47 PM

I think I will be sticking it out as I have yet to feel a serious pinch.
Though I also am looking at some additional offline ventures for extra income.

bronco67 06-07-2008 09:48 PM

I'm preparing to get into the biz. Is it really that bad? Someone must be doing well, because it seems like there's 800 new porn movies every fucking week.

st0ned 06-07-2008 09:48 PM

I won't be going anywhere. My monthly earnings have been increasing steadily over the past 12 months. When the industry changes, change with it. On the other hand it is always good to diversify into other industries as well.

BAKO 06-07-2008 09:50 PM

Porn for Life :)

Fucksakes 06-07-2008 09:53 PM

I'm not going anywhere, been here for about 8 years and still TONS to learn and 1000's of new things to try.

Tat2Jr 06-07-2008 09:53 PM

Going anywhere? Hell no. Been here since '97. Can't imagine life without lots of naked 18 year olds running around my house. If things are going that badly you're not expanding in the right directions.

BAKO 06-07-2008 09:53 PM

Been in Porn since 1999 and every year it gets better ;)

eightmotives 06-07-2008 09:58 PM

My dick's too big to leave!

Compdoctor 06-07-2008 10:00 PM

when they leave there will be more for me

marketsmart 06-07-2008 10:02 PM

well, so far good to hear.. i hate quitters.. stick it out until you have exhausted all options...

i think its going to be tough the next 12-18 months, but i think there is money to be made by getting creative....

also, i am in agreement to supplement adult with either mainstream or offline projects...

s3xnetwork 06-07-2008 10:05 PM

I do both mainstream and adult, but even in the worst economy people still love sex and booze. This is a great time to be peddling porn and if you're not making good money at it, you're just not doing it right.

tony286 06-07-2008 10:09 PM

Im in for the long haul, like working with my wife and being home with my dogs too much.

Peaches 06-07-2008 10:10 PM

How many people or the percentage? I wouldn't be surprised to see at least 30% go. And that doesn't include the ones I know are doing DAMNED well in adult but are focusing on mainstream in hopes to eventually wean off adult (at least most of it).

The interesting part will be the higher management positions being laid off. It's easy to hire a rep at a small salary and promises of big fat commissions, but if you're used to get getting that big fat pay day in and day out, it's going to be hard to match it elsewhere.

baddog 06-07-2008 10:14 PM

You guys are stuck with me. Too much fun to consider quitting.

Zorgman 06-07-2008 10:18 PM

Since 2000. Nothing else to do with my time but code for you guys. :D

jakethedog 06-07-2008 10:19 PM

in since 1996 and yeah .. making more every month .. fuck the TUBES .. fuck the obscenity laws ... fuck'em all .. I am very happy all around .. evolve or die ..

as much as i think you are annoying, i get the feeling that you live low key and bank most of your money... i think you will ride the shit to the bottom if neccessary...

one thing i have always wondered about you is what you did before adult...

Telecommunications technician, settlement negotiator, paralegal.

DateDoc 06-07-2008 10:49 PM

Over the past 6 months I have been doing more and more mainstream and it is in an area I have a true passion for so it is fun to do the work. I will still do adult dating and dating as they pay the bills.

J. Falcon 06-07-2008 10:53 PM

Im gonna thug it out.

SilentKnight 06-07-2008 10:53 PM

Been around since '99 ('95 if you count the production years before we went to a paysite format) - so chances are slim we'll be goin' anywhere soon.

Besides, there's too much invested in what we do to pack it in.

Plus...last month was one of our best for sales in our history. :thumbsup

Still rockin' in '07.

Yngwie 06-07-2008 10:59 PM

I've had my ups and many downs (right now being one of the downs), but I have never quit and never will.

my mainstream traffic is up yet my earnings per traffic is dropping over the last year, it is a disturbing trend, I can't help but feel like it is all so fragile... soon the new adage will be "there is no money in mainstream"

of course there will always be some very high money earning sites that can just about dictate their own advertising rates, but the little people that are reliant on google and other mickey mouse ppc options are not in what I feel is a long term secure earnings situation

feel free to call me a pessimist

Barefootsies 06-07-2008 11:33 PM

Why would I leave?

I make more money every year, and as you can see, our ratios are not suffering.

:2 cents:

Penny Flame 06-07-2008 11:50 PM

I'm never leaving. With all this 18 year old pussy running around my house....

Oh wait. There is some cock running around too.

My home is filled with running genitalia.

But I want to be around long after I quit performing. I love the whole industry, and can't imagine things differently.

(that could be due to the fact that I've been in it since 2001 and know nothing else...)

PORN OR DIE!!!!! RRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

payd2purv 06-07-2008 11:50 PM

Leaving adult!?

I have barely gotten started... I'm soo fucking young.. it's great :)

halfpint 06-08-2008 12:26 AM

Noticing the fact that there's a lot of competition in an industry makes you think it's a good idea to enter it?

Some Guy 06-08-2008 12:52 AM

Been doing this for eight years and don't plan on quitting anytime soon. Besides, who would hire me? I'd be lucky to get a job at Burger King. I can just see my application now...

"Previous employment: Pornographer"

Hmm. Application immediately thrown in trash. And even if I did get hired, I'd be leaning out the drive-thru window asking cute chicks if they'd like to make some extra money on the side and would get fired within a week. Doh!

Is this your first attempt at a job in the "real world" past college, (university in other parts of the world) or high school?

Where does one come to a conclusion that life in "adult" is so bad?

Who are you and what do you do?

I was only asking... I was an upper level executive for a publically traded company. I have owned several of my own companies.

i have hopped in and out of adult over the past 6-8 years.. right now i am back in, so i dont think adult is bad.. i was just asking to get an idea of where peoples heads are...

as far as what i do, i trade currency and run a tube site (and yes i own every lick of content on that site other than the few sponsors videos i allow).....

so, what do you do?

Marketstreet the honest answer would be many of the more serious people will either diversify and or stick to adult. Then another segment which is massive will still be in the webmaster reserves playing on weekends and talking about it every so often as it brings in anywhere from some beer money to several hundred a month for them. They will also continue to throw as much free shit at the wall to see what sticks and makes them a sign up. Then there will be some who just can not devote the time anymore and will fold.

Biggest issue that keeps so many in play is that hosting can be free, content is free, the scripts are free, the work is almost done for you, so in reality it is near impossible to bottom out and assuming your close to it you can just whore youself in some contest threads and clear a hundred or two a month.

to clarify, i was trying to get an answer from the people that work at least 20-40 hours in adult and may not consider adult their main income source (they work primary job)...

at some point, i would have to think that working 20-40 extra hours a week in adult but only making an additional $100-$1000 a month at some point isnt worth the effort...

i was asking original question in hopes of getting an idea of how tough it is for the average person to make $ in adult these days and to determine if it is pushing them out of the industry...

so far, it seems (from the initial responses) that most are going to try to stick it out for at least another 6-12 months...

very opposite of what i was expecting, but its late on a weekend... we'll see what the weekday crowd has to say...

Tjeezers 06-08-2008 02:27 AM

Its porn or nothing

bloggingseo 06-08-2008 02:33 AM

You know, I think honestly what to do is do the job that you love the most. If you love being in this industry, you will evolve and adapt and change and figure out new ways to keep making money. If you don't really like doing it, hell, go back to college or whatever career you want to really do. You are only happy when you are doing what you love.
