7 states to lower drinking age to 18.

Florida is thinking across the board, military or not. :thumbsup

KY WI & SC are for 21 and under military :thumbsup

I was one of the ones that got fucked back in 1984 when they changed it to 21. All my buddies that were just a little bit older were able to drink at 18. I had to wait till I was 21.

(like i really waited) lol

WASHINGTON, April 3 (UPI) -- Seven U.S. states are contemplating changing their laws to allow residents younger than 21 years to drink alcohol, officials said.

Kentucky, Wisconsin and South Carolina are considering laws to change the drinking age only for members of the military, ABC News reported Thursday. Missouri, South Dakota, Vermont and Minnesota are debating laws that would allow all residents to take advantage of the lower required age.

Kentucky state Rep. David Floyd, R-Bardstown, who said he thinks the legal drinking age should be 18, told ABC News that military personnel exhibit their ability to handle alcohol-drinking responsibilities while serving their country.

States considering changing drinking ages face losing as much as 10 percent of federal highway funding because of the 1984 Uniform Drinking Age Act, which threatens to pull funding if states lower legal drinking ages below 21.

Advocates for lowering drinking ages argue that the act is outdated and binge drinking and drunken driving would be less of a problem for the United States if the drinking age were lowered.

This could get out of hand.

DirtyProfits 04-14-2008 08:56 AM

In Germany teens start drinking at the age of 12 lol

PerrieBelle 04-14-2008 08:59 AM

it's 18 here but they're thinking of upping it to 21!! grr

Easton 04-14-2008 09:01 AM

it should be 18 everywhere... i grew up in Quebec and it was (and still is) 18 to drink

i don't get how the US will let you drive at 16 or get fucked in the ass in porn at 18 or die for your country in war, but you can't have a miller lite for another 3 years...

J. Falcon 04-14-2008 09:05 AM

18 is old enough imo.

teg0 04-14-2008 09:10 AM

It wont happen unless it becomes 18 all across the US. If I'm not mistaken right now they have it so if a state doesn't honor the 21 law they miss out on some federal funds.

I've also heard stories about when it was 18 to drink in some states and 21 in others that statically there were a lot more fatal, alcohol-related, accidents near the borders of two states with different age limits. This was before I came into this world though.

Here in Puerto Rico the drinking age is 18 and I'm surprised how much people just don't care. I see far less teen at age 18 here where its legal compared to 18 year olds drinking in the states where its not.

cranki 04-14-2008 09:13 AM

It's 18 here in Germany. Until this year or so, beer was available at age 16 already, but they changed the law because of excessive drinking among teenagers ;)

Eric 04-14-2008 09:15 AM

Maybe if the age was lowered and more 18 year olds were drunk when they voted in 00 and 04 we wouldn't have been stuck in this mess.

18 - Can vote for president and can die for your country, but I can't have a beer at the end of my day? Bullshit I say!

notoldschool 04-14-2008 09:16 AM

It will never happen in Florida.

They should raise the driving age to 21 and lower the drinking age to 18.

Are you fucking seriously out of you mind? Anyone who thinks this is acceptable in any way shape or form is obviously a complete slave to militarism, imperialism.

WHAT THE FUCK makes you think that members of the military are any more responsible in the way the consume alcohol? Or more important than anyone else for that matter?

Kentucky state Rep. David Floyd, R-Bardstown is saying that if you serve the United States military then you can enjoy alcoholic beverages at a younger age - A BRIBE and seriously dangerous propaganda that everyone should think about. What now they want to control the people by letting you have "goodies" if you fight for the cause? What's next - tobacco, marijuana? Completely fucking disgusting. Military special rights are WRONG. PERIOD.

I second what you just said.

There are quite a lot of countries that allow drinking at the age of 16 btw...

SykkBoy 04-14-2008 09:38 AM

If it doesn't happen uniformly, I could see a problem with 18 year olds sneaking across state borders where it is 18...and knowing they're drinking and driving, it'll likely cause more accidents. If they can drink legally in their own states, there is less chances of them having to drive when they're done drinking

I was sort of in the same boat. Senior in HS and could drink at 18. Then they raised it to 19 and I was unable to legally drink for about 8 months. Then they raised it to 21 but had a grandfather clause so even though I was over 19 but not 21 I could still legally drink.

seeric 04-14-2008 09:45 AM

i got to drink at 18. thanks to the military.

If almost harmless and even helpfull drugs are illegal and make criminals out of casual users, I think they should CRIMINALIZE ALL BOOZE AND BEER. Nothing more disgusting than a stinky sloppy drunk. Booze is the most dangerous drug in our country at this point and kills more people than all others. I say ban that shit and legalize pot. No more superman drunks fighting at the club, sex is actually much more enjoyable. There are many other arguments why drinking is gross....so ban that shit so the retards dont kill more people getting behind the wheel. DRUNKS ARE DISGUSTING SLOBS!

It makes no sense that you can drive, vote, die for your country at 18 or younger, but you can't drink until you're 21.

An 18 year old girl is old enough to do a 15 person gang bang but not old enough to go into a bar, just does not seem right. lol

mynameisjim 04-14-2008 10:48 AM

The odds of me scoring with an 18 year old girl just went up 400%

When I bartended, any time I carded someone, and they produced a green military card, I didn't even bother flipping the card to check their birth date... just tossed the card back, nodded, and often gave them the first drink on the house.

Most of the owners/managers I worked with were cool with that.

18 is enough for a teen to get into the real world...

Tom_PM 04-14-2008 11:30 AM

When I turned 18 they'd just raised it to 19 in my county. When I turned 19, it went to 21. Cool thing is that drinking just makes me throw up, so I didnt care ;)

gornyhuy 04-14-2008 12:15 PM

They need to legalize mary jane while they are at it. :2cents

Couldn't agree more 100%

I think it is retarded that you can drive at 16 yet you can't go down the bar and have a pint of the landlords best until 21

i think 17 is too young too drive in england, i have lost 3 friends due to car accidents and none to drinking.

personally i am waiting until i am 21 to drive, simply out of preference.
