> Why do you hate Americans?

I´ll make this a poll too, but I´d rather hear details as to what it is about Americans you hate.

I´ll start (and I´m American); the average American I see while travelling are usually a loud mouth, totally ignorant bafoons. Their whole outlook on things are so ignorant it´s almost funny.

When chatting with yanks online, I tell them about things where I am, or in other parts of the world and they all seem to have the same ignorant retorts and viewpoints...

Me: Dubai is pretty nice, some grea hotels on the water there.
USAGuy: And a bunch of raghead terrorists, fuck that I wouldn´t ever go there.

Me: Thai chicks are hot, and generally nice to foreigners
USAGuy: I don´t like commie nips.
Me: huh?

Those are just vague examples, but I find myself surrounded by ignorance so much it kills me inside. I want to reach through the monitor and jam a bamboo stick with the words ´CHINKS ARE CHINESE, NIPS ARE JAPANESE, IM IN THAILAND!´

So if you´re one of those Americans who has never left N.America, or has, and still maintains an American isolationist attitude, don´t ever talk to me, mmkay?

What does it have to do with being American? You think Arabs, Indians, Europeans who don't have the opportunity to travel all over the world are any different?
You think a fucktard like you in Dubai is "smarter" than a hard working American who doesn't spend other people's money in luxury destinations like the United Arab Emirates?
Is contempt for people less lucky than you a clever thing?
What makes you think you are better than your fellow Americans who can't travel?
Funny remark about loud mouths, since you are presently acting like one.
If you are a rocket scientist, why are you registered on this board?

You obviously don't listen to country music.

xmas13 03-28-2008 10:42 AM

To the thread starter:

Buy a ticket to Cairo, and ask the Egyptian man on the street what he thinks of Saudi tourists.
Buy a ticket to Spain, ask what the Spaniard on the street thinks of English tourists.
Buy a ticket to Nice in France and ask what the Frenchman on the street thinks of Russian tourists.

I bet you will hear more negative opinions than positive ones.

xmas13 03-28-2008 10:45 AM

Cross the border to Saudi Arabia and you will miss Dubai and American tourists, i tell you.

CaptainHowdy 03-28-2008 10:46 AM

I don't hate them... and if I did I should ask myself: "Why bother?".

I don't hate Americans. And why should I?

severe 03-28-2008 11:29 AM

is generalizing all americans with a superiority complex any different than other americans generalizing the world with the same?

Very good point.

CarlosTheGaucho 03-28-2008 11:34 AM

Show me a hater and I will persuade him that he is as close to be regarded as an ignorant as a redneck from Arkansas (and I am not an American).

I guess I have studied too much US history, system, met too many great Americans, visited too many great places and was also always fascinated by the tip of the iceberg of the US culture (and beeing constantly able to ignore the piles of shit culture that is succesfully exported worldwide), so very few could ever succesfully argue with me on this topic.

You can find idiots in every country of the world and as Gauss's theorem says, in fact, there will always be more idiots than alpha humans.

The key is to keep the idiots believe in something, find them a very mean and universal enemy so they have something to be scared off, so you can justify how you fuck them, keeping them under control and cashing in.

Honestly, there is very few countries that would be able to master this art in such a perfect fashion as US, but that doesn't make the people or the nation inferior.

Vick! 03-28-2008 11:46 AM

I don't hate americans, but I do hate double-standard people, hypocrites etc. etc.

kmanrox 03-28-2008 12:16 PM

well i dont know what kind of Americans you all come across and I guess this is the wrong forum to pose such a question... you´d have to live outside of the US to understand how much more ignorant and close minded Americans are than most.

J. Falcon 03-28-2008 12:19 PM

I hate it when Americans think that because you are against what they're government does that you "hate America". That's what I fucking hate.

J. Falcon 03-28-2008 12:20 PM

You could have offered better options.

Kevsh 03-28-2008 12:21 PM

I don't hate Americans, but having traveled quite a bit throughout I am amazed at how ignorant many are of the "outside world". And I don't mean Europe or the Middle East, I mean outside their town. Seriously.

But that is not meant to condemn or insult, just an unusual (sad?) observation that probably is the same around the world - at least when you get deep into a country's interior.

But one comment on GFY from an American I will always remember. In a thread talking about traveling overseas, one guy said something like "Why bother (going there) when I can see photos (of these places) on the Internet?" Hmm. I truly hoped he was joking, he was not ... Still, I wonder if he feels the same way about sex?

jscott 03-28-2008 12:23 PM

GrouchyAdmin 03-28-2008 12:25 PM

You dislike ignorance, yet you use an ignorant person as the basis for your disdain. Guess what..

This coming from someone who hates Arabs and Muslims.

SykkBoy 03-28-2008 12:26 PM

When I recently went to Costa Rica, i got to see a lot of the ugly american syndrome. The hotel staff where I stayed was extremely friendly and helpful and most of them spoke really good english, yet I'd see some tourists complain about people in the markets, etc. not speaking english or being able to help them and I kept thinking "dumb ass, you're in a spanish speaking country, at least try and learn their language before you travel". I couldn't get over these people expecting everyone in a foreign country to speak english. Those same idiots are the ones who seem to bitch about people in this country that can't speak the language...

payd2purv 03-28-2008 12:28 PM

What a dumb fucking thread.

I do not hate American's I aint even American and I don't hate them.

I don't hate anyone.

Hate is a very strong word.

Hahaha! I did, too. Some guy was bitching about everyone speaking Spanish. "Well, no shit.", I thought. He then saw my pasty white ass (I'm totally Blanco Nino) walking along and said 'Hey buddy, what do I have to do to get these people to understand me?' My response was "Lo siento; no hablo ingles." Fuck him.

People can be ugly, but Americans are used to the culture of "If I'm paying for something, you serve me." I understand that, I grew up in it. I don't, however, necessarily agree with it.

polle54 03-28-2008 12:43 PM

Mostly because the vast majority are so easily manipulated.

I mean when Bush first ran for president it was so god damn obvious that this man would not under any circumstances be able to contribute anything remotely good to America.
How the hell >50% could be manipulated to, or be stupid enough to, believe in his way of doing things is just a riddle to me.
The whole world was standing on it's toes shouting this to America and all alarm clocks were ringing loud and fucking clear.

The general natoinalism and glorification of their own country also seem to do it for me from time to time hehe :)
There's a fine line between beeing a proud citizen and a stupid self loving smuck.

Oh... I also seem to find a little hate from time to time when I see people who are not even able to point out IRAQ on a map and thinks we should make a glass cradle out of it.

Stuff like that you know :)

I am an American who lives in Europe and I have not found this to be true. Most Americans are basically open minded and tolerant of other cultures (The United States is a melting pot of many different cultures so this makes sense). The Europeans I have met tend to be very nativist and obsessed with ethnicity. The level of racism that is considered normal in Europe would be considered completely shocking to your average American.

Just go to a European football match if you doubt me. I have never in my life heard racist chants at an American sporting event, but these are commonplace throughout Europe (I was once on the tube in London and heard the entire train of Arsenal fans chanting "The Yids are going to Auschwitz!" before a Tottenam Hotspurs match because Tottennam is considered a Jewish backed team). Blacks are regularly mocked and subjected to racist chants during sporting events throughout Europe. The list of examples of endless. The idea that Europeans are more open minded or tolerant than Americans is absurd. :2 cents:

What is wrong with that, better than "If I'm paying for that, fuck with me" as its a credo around here..

You guys really are lucky that you have such a brilliant level of service around there, saves SO MUCH nerves everyday.. you can't even imagine..

You've come a long way Kieth. A LONG way. Seems like only 5 or 6 short years ago you were still in the USA and giving people like me that same brand of elitist self-important 'merica or bust attitude. Nice to see you've gotten out in the world and met enough people to see things from the other side.

As for your question... hate? No, not for America or Americans in general. Most have been quite friendly in my travels and experience. There ARE those few though whose ignorance has flabbergasted me... but those are found in virtually every country. The USA, having a larger population than a lot of countries, naturally seems to have more due to sheer numbers.

It's when people start believing that they are better than others, or are some sort of superior human, simply because they were born in a certain country (something they had no say in) that really scream "I'm an ignorant idiot" the most, definitely.

Good post.

Your logic there makes absolutely no sense at all, since only slightly more than half the voters win an election. I don't even think that's the case, since popular votes don't win an election in the United States. Besides, we're not even mentioning all those who do not vote.

To say you hate an entire country is just stupid and ignorant.
