Thats not a seal. That is a fake seal used behind a few of the boats near seal island off of false bay.

They tow that thing around to taunt the great whites and let the tourists see them going ariel. Latter on the will use some fish chunks and bring them right next to the boat for even more bang for the buck on your great white tour.

Now want to see crazy, try to get some video or witness some killer whale versus seal attacks. Those whales like playing with their food unlike the shark. So if you want to see a seal fly 30 feet through the air, it is the way to go.

ahh come on. Typically they are safe. Hell ya one could eat you, though more than likely they would take a nibble and spit you out. Sharks do not seem to like our tastes much. Unless of course it is a bullshark, but that is due to them just being mean agressive fucks that will attack anything and everything for fun.

KILL_FRENZY 11-19-2007 02:14 AM

amazing :)

ok location may be wrong, doubtfull though.

Then look at picture again. Notice how flat the seal is, notice the thin line streatching from its head into the water? What looks like heavy duty fishing line?

Well their nibble may take off an arm or a leg but yes a nibble. Size is relative of course.

Actually he's 100% correct.

And if you would have read the article you'd know it.

"On occasion the photography team used an artificial lure to attract the sharks before snapping them in action with the seals"

papill0n 11-19-2007 02:41 AM

After Shock if you take a look at the other pics in the first link you can see its clearly a seal. I know they do use 'dummy' seals like you said but not in this case.

Also, down here in Australia theres been plenty of stories of guys who have been killed by sharks. Admittedly considering the amount of time we spend in the water the statistics are low but trust me a great white will bite your ass in half if he feels like it.

"on occasion" being the key phrase.

I did read the article and I had a close look at the pics.

I see a real seal. If you see a fake one that's fine :)

Unbelievable. Under what picture? There are 9 pictures. The article is talking about how a guy spent 6 months filming sharks at SEAL ISLAND for fucks sake.

You ever seen that place? I know this is going to freak you out but there are alot of ummmm seals there. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Dude I am not going to argue with you about something so obvious, if you want to look like an idiot, go for it. The captions are ABOVE the photos... it's not rocket science.

draude 11-19-2007 02:59 AM

scarryyyy

aico 11-19-2007 02:59 AM

If you don't see the hook and line in the flat fake ass looking seal, you need to get a new monitor.

Exactly what is it that you are arguing about? You want him to admit that one picture is a fake seal and the rest are real or do you think that all the photos are of a fake seal?

The picture posted in this thread is a fake seal. The others are real, but the photo posted, which is the photo After Shock is commenting on, which is why he says "That's not a seal..."

GreyWolf 11-19-2007 03:15 AM

Excellent pics - takes a lot of patience to capture images like that.

Well that makes sense than. Now I know why you said 'Oh come on' to the guy who said he wouldn't like to meet one while swimming. I mean, who wouldn't like to loose an arm or leg? Quite friendly of them if you ask me.

tornell 11-19-2007 03:25 AM

beautiful and wild

TBrown 11-19-2007 03:26 AM

so is it a fake or a real seal? :P

there may be real seals in the other pics but the one shown in the first post is fake. you can see the string hanging from it and all.

You know what, you are right and so is aico. I was looking at the other pics.

I am big enough and ugly enough to admit I was wrong.

Apologies to aico and after shock.

florin 11-19-2007 03:51 AM

Cool pictures. wouldn´t wanna be the seal, though...

Antonio 11-19-2007 06:02 AM

white sharks will fuck you up big time, they eat a surfer or two every year in South Africa. As for "taking a nibble" that's what they usually do when seeing something that's unusual or strange to them - they give it a gentle bite before attacking (well, they have no hands so that's their only way to "feel" an object)

here's a pic I took in South Africa - seal island:

No problem...

Until you need to eat... None of them are going to bring any take-out back to the island...
