Today I took my son to the Doctor for his 15 month check-up.

The doctor informed us that he would need 5 shots, so the nurse came in to give him the 5 shots.

On the last shot.. I had to remind the Nurse to clean each area before she stuck him with an alcohol swab to clean the injection area first. On the last shot she stuck him and missed. Then she pulled out the needle and pocked him again in the same spot (or tried to). When she stuck him again, for the 6th time, all the medicine came out the first poked hole. I lit this nurse up.

Security was called.

My son was scared shitless. The thing is.. with 5 shots.. what do you expect?!? At some point ?fight? or ?flight? is going to kick in. Seeing that he is being held down, and can't "flight" any human is going to start fighting.. She took her sweet fucking time with the first 3 shots.. just long enough to make my son start going crazy. When he started to fight.. she got all flustered and started to fuck up. It caused him much more pain than what was necessary.

Our Dr. for our son is kick-ass. When the nurse told him what she did after I told him, I thought security was going to have to restrain HIM. The guy went ape shit on this nurse. When confronted about it by the dr, she said it looked clean enough and that he was screaming so loud she just wanted to get it done.

He dismissed her on the spot.

I?m still pissed. I need to punch something.

That's fucked up. You could have sued. No wonder the Dr. fired her ass!

I agree, it was either a tech or a Nurse that just didn't give a fuck. Every medical office seems to have at least one. I was an EMT for a while and any first year EMS would tell you the same thing. FIVE shots in one arm? That's insane!

Geezz I've never heard of 5 shots at once if they were all just the routine. I'd be afraid that if the child had a reaction you wouldn't be able to figure out what he reacted too.

The routine shots for 12-15 months are MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b), IPV (inactivated polio virus), PCV7 (pneumococcal conjugate). Somewhere before 18 months they give a 4th DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis).

They must of been trying to get them in all in one visit. I don't think mine ever got more than 2 at a time when they were young and then the IPV was giving by mouth.

BTW...both my parents are in the medical profession. My mother is in charge of infectious disease control at a group of area hospitals. She'd likely of freaked just like you and the doctor.

I don't know about the States, but here they won't give you more than 2 shots (routine shots) on the same day, and even at that, it's given one on each arm or leg. I would have disagreed with 5 shots in one day & told the doctor that two for today was fine and the rest we'd be back for in a week.
No kid would sit down for it calmly.

My kids' pediatrician gives the shots herself which makes it so much easier - she's clean, she's fast and she's experienced.

That nurse should find some other day job.

Dude i feel you pain , i have a 3 year old and 6 months ago we had to have blood drawn to test for lead. well they made me sit in a chair and hold him so he could not move at all . well the fucker missed and my son was screaming to no end and my heart was breaking and i was getting mad and ready to hit the docter. well when the guy went to stick him again my son barfed right in his face and not a little barf a huge projectile barf it was great !!
the whole thing sucked !!

Seriously, you should do something.
On monday call the board of nursing.
Tell them what happened and you want to know what can be done, and who should be contacted.
