Joining video with no Re-Render

Hi,

What is the best/easiest/most-efficient way to connect DV scenes together without having to re-render the entire file out?

Thank you in Advance from Rock...

If it's still DV, that usually means you are in the editing stage, why don't you just drop the scenes into your editor in the sequence you want, why do you need to re-render it? You already know what it looks like.

rock-reed 01-12-2007 05:32 PM

I am not editing.... I am archiving and backing up from tape to Hard-Drive

Thank you

there is no format .dv You are either using mpeg1 or .avi wherein the link I posted to boilsoft and their AVI/MPEG/RM/WMV Joiner will work for that no problem. You might look at my sig I work with miniDv and HD all day long.

seeric 01-12-2007 05:43 PM

i capture, edit and compress video with final cut and you have me thoroughly confused.

Helix 01-12-2007 05:55 PM

just capture it from cam, put together the clips you need and render it using the dv codec and you shouldn't suffer any data degradation.

in that case I don't know of any way to join .dv files. But, why are you backing them up? The tapes will last you longer than the harddrive.

what he said :thumbsup

aico 01-12-2007 06:18 PM

If you have two cameras you can also do a tape to tape, and put it in any order you want. I guess you have a reson for putting it to a Hard Drive, but if you're just trying to back up your footage, tapes are way better than a hard drive.

He is a scientist , a GLOBAL WARMING one .. so you have to excuse him.... about his lack of knowledge about editing .... :1orglaugh

rock-reed 01-12-2007 06:35 PM

Not true...I have tapes that were well taken care of...that are now about.... 5 years old and they are having some drop outs.

No DV format? lol----u wild yo...

I do not want to edit the clips and re-render to DV (look at the title of the post)

:):)

rock-reed 01-12-2007 06:37 PM

Tapes suffer from drop out... Do not rely on them to be good over time...

I have a dual Hard drive back up of all my raw DV files
(all tapes backed up across two different system with two different storage areas)

seeric 01-12-2007 06:40 PM

im a tard.

Dv format makes no difference in joining. DV is mpeg1 when captured. Maybe there is .dv on a mac who knows....

I agree . I have some BETACAM PAL SP tapes of 1997, and they do have drop outs, mainly at the begining of the tapes.
Good thing the studio started the actual movie at 3:00 into the tape....

shut up, you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. Maybe your shitty ass program compresses the video when you capture it, but that's your problem.

oh my god...this is great....

BetaCam is Analog. There is no deteoriation with Digital Video.

rock-reed 01-12-2007 06:49 PM

You can help with drop out by.... everyone once in a while....fast-forwarding the tape to the very end.

When it hits the end (jerks a little).... particles that accumulated on the tape fall off...

Rewind to beginning--- when it hits... same thing happens.

It helps a little bit with drop out over time.

Sorry I dont use a mac. Now when someone asks for a program to join DV video he will have to capture it to his computer in order to do that. There is no extension .dv on a pc it is either .avi or .mpeg1 .avi is the full uncompressed version.

If I were asking for software for a MAC I would probably say that first thing.

Btw I use adobe Premiere 2.0 and newest versions of sorrenson squeeze and Canopus procoder 2. Shitty programs? :uhoh

I wasn't referring to lost ... but to drop outs. Tape, analog or digital, can have drop outs, mainly as the years go by.

StuBradley 01-12-2007 06:54 PM

I use EZ Video Joiner. This is what you're looking for.

http://www.doeasier.org/joiner/

:winkwink:

rock-reed 01-12-2007 06:58 PM

A file can have any extension on it in the world (fuckyou-imeating.dope)

DV and miniDV are the type of codec...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DV

.avi is just an extension....

He does this all day long. You're not teaching him anything he obviously hasn't already learned in "Adobe Premiere Classroom in a Book".

Hmm well Ive only been using Premiere since version 5 so Im sure that classroom in a book should sure help. Of course lucky you they are just releasing a mac version of premiere again soon! :thumbsup

Im not being taught a thing is right. DV format has nothing to do with what program would work to join it. More important is the file type his program captures to which would be .avi, or .mpeg

Ok so are you using a mac or a pc? What program are you capturing with? What file type and extension does your program capture to?

.avi? .mpeg? .m2t?

Hmm, well I used Premiere since 2.0, and before that I used the Thumbs Up editor with two VCRs...

Premiere is crap, they didn't stop making it for Mac becaues they wanted to, it's because people with a Mac stopped using it around 4.0 because is was utter shit.
