Webmaster Access: LA tips. Add yours if you are a local, if you aren't, read on.

I wrote this a year or two ago. I revised it for this year's show and posted in on Midget Army. I am sure the other SoCal following here on GFY can add to it, or even give opinions on mine.

All the same, nice to have people coming to our backyard, looking forward to seeing you all.

Hope it helps : )

Dont go on any freeway between the hours of 8am - 8pm, unless you enjoy traveling at 10 mph all the way to your destination.

RevSand 10-26-2006 04:44 PM

Nice advice... LA is unlike most other cities that I have found becuase it is so large and spread out... Most cities have a city "center" but LA has many smaller centers and areas to see instead.

YUM Tommys!! Thats the only restaurant I know of that you can use as an excuse not to go to work the next day... "Sorry, I cannot come in to work today, I had tommys for dinner last night" I have used that and it worked with no questions asked!

Fly into Burbank whenever possible. It is worth thwe extra $100 for the ticket over LAX, especially for the Webmaster Access destination.

Agreed. But I get a lot of people eveyr year flipping out because they booked LAX. I don't think it is worth a lot of pain to change....

seeric 10-27-2006 08:46 AM

santa anas were off the hook yesterday in the valley. they were blowing so hard that i was driving down the street and it literally pushed me almost off the road.

heres a don't for hollywood.

DON'T: Park a car on a residential street while attending an event and expect to find it past 8am the next morning. Any street within a mile of the Hollywood strip is permitted for residents that live there or signed either no parking or 2 hour parking from 8am to 12mid. Either that or theirs those damn signs for street cleaning. I almost lost a car a few weeks back when we went to the rainbow and metal school with xxxjay and pb's crew. Got drunk and said it will be ok, came back and found a bunch of tickets on it. Luckily it was not towed.

The San Diego Freeway doesn't go to San Diego, it ends near Santa Ana.

The Santa Ana Freeway goes to from San Diego.

Lets talk facts now. JMK and other locals, I am not going to tell him the world is pretty roses : )

405 / 101 interchange = busiest interchange in the world.

405 / 10 interchange = second busiest in the world

405 / harbor = this is just south of the 405 / 10, however, it isn't ranked, but I cried there once, because the traffic was so bad and I had to pee.

Your cabby may take the Harbor freeway north to Downtown LA, to avoid all of this. By doing this, you will quickly develop a false sense of calm when you are flying down the freeway. Then comes downtown. It is a crush of cars, it looks like a stadium parking lot. Once you finally get on the 101 north, you will have plenty of opportunity to gets some pictures of downtown LA.

Cory W 10-27-2006 11:24 AM

When I first moved to LA, like 8 or 9 years ago, I got on the 101 and tried to exit the 405 south which would lead me to Santa Monica. I got on the ramp that changes you over. The wait was so long that some guy got out of his car, sat on his hood, and lite a cigarette.

If you think I am kidding, ask other LA folks. This shit happens all the time.

Now, you might be thinking, "I am from Atlanta or Houston, I heard it is worse than LA."

Allow me to explain. During the actual rush hours, as deemed by the entire country in large metropolitans, large cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston are likely comprable.

But that isn't what makes it bad.

1) In LA, the distance you travel from point A to point B is often much further. LA square-mile wise, is only smaller than Baghdad.

2) The rush hour occurs all day and most of the evening, early night. On friday night, the 405 in Santa Monica is terrible until just under 11pm. The 101 is awful until about 2am.

3) The absolute worst day of the week is Saturday. I dare you to drive on Saturday.

When xxxJay first moved from Atlanta to Orange County, I invited him to lunch at Cheesecake Factory. He had to take the 405 from Huntington Beach to Irvine. I know some of you LA people are already cringing, this is considered a death zone. People have actually died where the 405 crosses Beach Blvd because of how long it takes.

Jay called my cell around 2pm and asked me if there had been an accident or if the freeway had collapsed. LOL I told him welcome to LA buddy! LOL

There was no chance you were gonna drive that thing anywhere that night :1orglaugh As much as you tried, I had to keep picking you up and taking you back down to street :)
