i dont see the big deal about firefox

i downloaded it because i was having problems loading nfl.com in IE. ok cool, it now works in firefox, but now i'm checking out a dozen different sites and i am not noticing any speed difference with firefox at all. even gfy still loads the same.

in my opinion firefox is just ok, but nothing special

baddog 03-15-2006 03:11 PM

the advantages I see are the popup blocker, the ability to save passwords, ability to open multiple tabs in one window.

I have discovered that I rely on it a lot more than I ever did with MSIE.

popups never bother me and i dont really care about passwords. however i kind of do like the tabbed browsing but i heard that the next IE is gonna have it too

candyflip 03-15-2006 03:14 PM

It's a resource hog for being a browser.

wedouglas 03-15-2006 03:14 PM

The advantages are popup blocker and tabbed browsing. it is 10000x times easier to manage. I was the same way at first, but now i never use IE unless a site doesnt work in firefox. usually because im too lazy to install the plugin for it.

trust me, you'll get used to it and never go back

Linguist 03-15-2006 03:15 PM

I don't like it either.. I use Opera or IE myself. The IE popup blocker that came with SP2 seems to do the job for most popups.

As I have literally hundreds of different passwords for sites that I must visit on a regular basis it is probably the singlemost important feature in my book.

tranza 03-15-2006 03:17 PM

Tabs are the only reason why I use Firefox.

Oh, and also because it doesn't crash as often as IE.

Sosa 03-15-2006 03:21 PM

I prefer IE

dij 03-15-2006 03:23 PM

I use it for the all the cool extensions

WWC-Pajio 03-15-2006 03:24 PM

It's a good software.. no Popup nymore! No minimizing or maximizing the window! saving passwords! etc.. I find it good!

GlydeGirl 03-15-2006 03:25 PM

I like Firefox because it works smoothly and never causes me problems. Plus it isn't Microsoft, which alone makes me like it.

IWantU_Jeff 03-15-2006 03:28 PM

check out opera. & I think the new IE7 should be a turn for the better when its ready too (hopefully)

SGS 03-15-2006 03:30 PM

When is IE 7 due out of beta?

WebairGerard 03-15-2006 03:40 PM

FireFox and Opera. IE not even close unless I need to use it to see certain sites.

CC 03-15-2006 03:57 PM

The only reason I have it on my computers is so I can make sure my pages look OK in it....I personally hate it.

Pornwolf 03-15-2006 04:01 PM

You can't beat the tabs and plug ins. IE will never have the amount of useful plugs that Firefox has.

VicD 03-15-2006 04:03 PM

I'll stick to IE

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 03-15-2006 04:04 PM

Firefox is the best, i iwll never go back to ie, ie is so bad.

Tabs, it IS faster, excellent plugins and more.

If you think Fox is not running faster - check this link:
http://www.linuxtechs.net/make_firefox_faster

There is no comparison with IE - IE is a magnet for viruses and adware.

Spend three days getting the "habit" of FireFox and doubt you'll ever go back! :thumbsup

u-Bob 03-15-2006 06:11 PM

It's all about extensions.

Spunky 03-15-2006 06:15 PM

Wait until it locks you out and changes your preferences

Basic_man 03-15-2006 06:16 PM

Firefox is the shit. When you'll get used to it, you'll NEED it to surf !

FF or nothing! :thumbsup

mrkris 03-15-2006 06:25 PM

As a developer I think IE is a piece of shit. They can't figure out how to follow standards, causing all sorts of extra work to make shit show up right.

Nookster 03-15-2006 06:29 PM

I use FireFox 92% of the time, Opera 6% and MSIE 2% of the time. Basically I only use IE to see how my sites look in it. :2 cents:

If you get athlon/pentium 4 optimized compile of firefox it owns IE....

Star 69 03-15-2006 06:50 PM

ability to open multiple tabs in one window, it's really hepls

dbavaria 03-15-2006 06:53 PM

firefox = one big memory leak :(

minusonebit 03-15-2006 09:27 PM

What makes it special is it is functional. IE is, always has been and always will be a piece of insecure, worthless shit. Firefox is cool because it is lightweight, customizable and most of all, privacy conscious.

drjones 03-15-2006 10:39 PM

I cant stand to use IE. Every browser alternative out there has pretty much had its feature set beat for a long time. IE is good at rendering incorrect HTML though, i'll give it that. Although i think itd would be good for the web and standards if it wasnt.

Honestly one of the number one things that bugs me about IE is the pop up blocker software available for it. Most other browsers with pop up blocking have 'intelligent popup blocking'. The annoying popups are the ones that pop up in addition to the link you clicked on. If the link itself is a popup, popup blockers shouldnt block it. Every popup blocker I have used for IE cant seem to figure that out. Its annoying to no end.

Egomancer 03-16-2006 12:33 AM

I am using opera. And...one more thing is the viruses. If you use IE you have great chances to get trojans and so on. If you use firefox or opera to chances go to about 0%

Egomancer

bdld 03-16-2006 01:01 AM

i like the way firefox's bookmark system is set up. it takes a while to customize everything the way you want it and get used to using the tabs too

KrisKross 03-16-2006 01:07 AM

The tabbed browsing and password storing features are great, but all the extensions are what make it shine.

foolio 03-16-2006 01:29 AM

AM I missing something? I can store passwords in IE.... And I do not get the hype over tabbed browsing. Plus in firefox it has MUCH trouble showing images correctly.

reed_4 03-16-2006 01:33 AM

the ability to open multiple tabs in one window is one advantage of FF vs. IE. And yes the passwords are hassle free.

In IE, you can only store usernames and passwords in password prompt windows generated by .htaccess. With Firefox, you can store the user/pass automatically in most login forms (for example, when logging on to a message forum or to an affiliate program to check your stats).

I didn't understand the hype about tabbed browsing either and didn't bother to make the switch to Firefox until IE fucked up big time on my PC last April. Once you get used to tabbed browsing, you'll love it. Trust me.

Sarah_Jayne 03-16-2006 01:46 AM

In addition to all the other things mentioned, I just like not using a microsoft product. It reminds me of Netscape and I was a Netscape user right up until I couldn't use it anymore.

Violetta 03-16-2006 01:59 AM

I not a big FF fan. Opera on the other hand! :)

PussyTeenies 03-16-2006 02:04 AM

1. extensions
2. no activax exploits
3. tweak and make it faster
4. tab browsing
5. no more IExplorer.exe crashes :)
