Stairway to Heaven...

A lot of people think this song is played out, but I still love it! Listening now. The rock out towards the end is just plain awesome.

Listening now, great way to start a Saturday.

xclusive 08-13-2005 10:38 AM

Why does the song remain the same?
I can't remember my own name
I work for minimum wage
Oh go sell it to Jimmy Page
At the crosses the deal he made
Cuz that song ain't goin' away
Oh God the Zeplin song

killerkay 08-13-2005 10:57 AM

Doc911 08-13-2005 11:05 AM

DJ's used to love playing it on the radio because it gave them time to sneak out and have a smoke.

fuzebox 08-13-2005 11:12 AM

I get kind of tired of it, but I hear it so seldom now that it's a treat when it clicks on my playlist.

For me it's been classic U2 all morning :thumbsup

Cory W 08-13-2005 11:20 AM

I always request this song for my lap dances.

Unfortunately the strip clubs tend not keep it in the jukebox.

mardigras 08-13-2005 11:55 AM

Ever hear the song played backwards? Several friends and I sat down one night to listen to it while taking notes without discussing it prior. We all wrote down many things in common...

Rui 08-13-2005 12:30 PM

One of the all-time classics, never gets old never gets dry.

Led Zepplin rule :)

I can't stand that song. It was ranked number one on the top 1000 songs on a local classic rock station. I was pissed.

I was too young to see Led Zep live, but I've seen Page and Plant together, and I've seen Robert Plant 3 times. Zep offers up so much variety in music that everyone should be able to find a track they like. They have a great body of work.

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
And you know sometimes words have two meanings
In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

And it makes me wonder

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

Your head is humming and it won't go because you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

And she's buying a stairway to heaven, uh uh uh.

Have you ever heard Dolly Parton sing it? Her version is actually really good. She said she was attracted to the spiritual aspect of the song. Guess she never played it backwards, LOL!

She also does a really awesome version of Shine by Collective Soul. I'm not a big Dolly fan and not really crazy about country music, but I hated that song until I heard her do it. The production on it made me cringe but when she sang it I really noticed how great the lyrics were.

I second that.

I just dowloaded *both* of those tracks fro iTunes last week. Surprisingly good renditions.

BigCashCrew 08-15-2005 10:25 AM

that song will never get old. people will diss it but secretly love it. I have heard some live versions where Page blows me away. It's amazing.
