I wouldn't raise it to be violent :2 cents:

VIPimp 07-28-2005 12:07 PM

My sister in law just got a Maltesse last week.

David! 07-28-2005 12:07 PM

Maybe I should get a Jack Russell?
At least it doesn't look like a Barbie doll dog...

Pitbull all the way! Your wife will love him to death in no time. They have a personality that just melts the heart if trained right. Good Luck! :thumbsup

Brutus sounds good, I was going to name mine Damnit but the ex wouldn't go for it. :1orglaugh

you should check out the bull terrier....

he is a little like a pit, but with a sense of humour...

Peaches 07-28-2005 12:09 PM

Get a french bulldog, boston terrier or pug - kinda crosses between big and little dogs :)

grumpy 07-28-2005 12:10 PM

pitbulls are for idiots.

brand0n 07-28-2005 12:10 PM

my best friend of 12 years has a bitbull. we watched it grow up since it was a puppy.

5 months ago it decided to bite my 2 year old daughter in the face resulting in 6 stitchs that will leave small scars on her face the rest of her life

my daughter didnt provoke the dog, shes played with him a million times. just 1 day he snapped and did that

i think all pitbulls should be killed

Gunni 07-28-2005 12:14 PM

Get a Japanese Tosa!
They are the coolest dogs in the world, and they grow to be 240 punds! :winkwink:

Damn, that's a bad story. Sorry to hear that.
I guess a pitbull doesn't sound all that appealing after all.

Doctor Dre 07-28-2005 12:15 PM

Pitbulls should be reserved to semi profetional and profetional trainers only ... Way too much risk factor

I would be afraid it would get sick and I couldn't carry it to the vet :(

kacy 07-28-2005 12:23 PM

I have 3 Chihuahua puppies I am looking for GOOD homes for right now :)

Jakke PNG 07-28-2005 12:25 PM

Get a mutt. They shouldn't have hereditory problems.

It is Japanese, if it gets sick that meens it brings shame on his family and he commits harakiri :1orglaugh

chazer 07-28-2005 12:33 PM

why don't you compromise and get a boxer, they look tough but are big lap dogs.

I have 2 and they're awesome dogs.... looking to get a 3rd in the not too distant future.

BigBen 07-28-2005 12:38 PM

Pitbulls are awesome dogs as long as they are brought up well. My gf is getting a maltese which I'm not a big fan of, but I'd say it's better than a chihuahua.

chazer 07-28-2005 12:41 PM

if you're dead set on the pitbull , get an American Staffordshire instead of an American Pitbull Terrier... they're are considered pitbulls but have a better temperament and are more suitable for being family pets.

i'm sorry this happened to your daughter, i'm sure it was *very* scary for you both and i hope she recovered quickly. later in life if her scar is too visible for her comfort there is something called scar revision that plastic surgeons do, just something you might be interested in. *hugs*

what scares me about this post is the last line - anytime someone generalises it scares me though. :upsidedow just because this dog bit your daughter doesn't mean it's because the dog is a pitbull.

for those considering dogs who have children (pussyman i don't know if this includes you) realise that *all* dogs have the potential to bite your child, or you for that matter. domesticating animals is a human thing we've done, it doesn't mean the dogs don't still have innate biological reactions, etc. bully breeds, prior to more recent trends to train them into being fighters, have long been considered family dogs, and great with children. they like to protect their family and they tend to be muscular and able to take the pulling on and teasing that children often exhibit with animals. once upon a time, the pit bull was considered the all-american family dog!

pussyman ~ best of luck in coming to a size agreement on a dog! a chihuahua pit mix would be very strange. :winkwink:

69pornlinks 07-28-2005 12:45 PM

if this is your first take the wife choice if not get a pit from pitfalls kennel

L0rdJuni0r 07-28-2005 12:50 PM

Alot of peaple say pitbulls are dangerous. Me and my family has had a bunch of pitbulls and they have never harmed us. I guess its just the way you raise them. I think if you miss treat any dog you have a chance that it can turn on you.

I say get the pitbull but keep him outside. they shed alot of little hairs... :2 cents:

chazer 07-28-2005 01:06 PM

no point in getting a dog (as a pet) if you're just going to leave it chained up outside all day.

Don't worry about it so much, get 'em both. One day, the fucking pitbull is gonna go berserk anyways and there....your problem's solved: you're left with a kickass pitbull (and a grieving wife..)
I'm sorry, but 'Sweety' looks totally gay. :)

Yea, I have some, I will post in a bit. I have to run to a meeting.
Riverside area :)

OldSchoolJim 07-28-2005 03:26 PM

I have had a pitt bull for 5 years...fantastic dog...BUT you better check with your landlord if you rent...most pitt bulls will nullify homeowners insurance as they are on a list of dangerous animals.....and if you DO end up moving...you will most likely never be able to rent again with the dog...they make it almost impossible to own one nowdays...

Alvaro 07-28-2005 03:35 PM

i have a maltese.. they dont keep quiet for a second.. especially if there is any other dog around.. they like to play a lot.. run all the house.. jump to sofa from sofa.. they do require a lot of attention

KRL 07-28-2005 03:41 PM

My ex-wife has a maltese. I just got done watching him and her other dog for 2 weeks while she was on vacation in Europe.

Really sweet dogs, but they yap with a irritating shrill and yap at every little noise they hear. They also pee when they get excited. During the 2 weeks he pee'd on a sofa, on the carpet, and on a bed.
