Ways to keep cool?
Okay, assume you dont have air conditioning or access to a swimming pool...what is your top tips for keeping cool? London is hitting 95 tomorrow - again!
|
Get in the tub/shower and sit in front of a fan while wet. I had to do this with my dogs when our AC went out a few years ago.
|
I have AC here in my house and I'm still hot. Been jumping in a cold shower every other hour or so.
|
1) set up standing fan
2) stand in front of rotating fan 3) Spray water in a mist form from a spray bottle into fan 4) relax, repeat as neccessary ~r. |
Not insinuating that you're a dog, BTW ;)
|
drink a lot of water and put a cloth dampened with cold water around your neck. it will make you feel cooler.
|
|
take a shower.
then quick showers in between sips of ice cold water wear cool clothes...if you prefer naked that's fine |
nothing beats an a/c just ordered a new one bigger BTU range.
Just wondering why no a/c? theyre pretty cheap nowadays |
Water is the key. Drink juice too. Close your TV, Computer, etc if you don't use them... they generate heat.
|
Keep your shades closed, possibly widows too. Buy a GOOD fan, I bought a tower fan last year for $50 and it works great. Drink plenty of cold water, eat cold food, place cool objects on your forehead and back of the neck, wear light clothes and stand up often so your body isn't "closed" up all day, etc.
Lots of things you can do. Cold water is probably the best. |

BE NEKKID |
A friend of mine bought a floor fan that sprays mist - just plug into a hose. Great for a patio. Of course, not very suitable for indoor use ... unless you want to swim in your apartment too.
:pimp |
First thing is get naked!
Second take pic and post here. More instructions will then follow. |

Go shopping at an indoor mall. |
Agreed - I'd just spend the day out somewhere. It was 116 here yesterday, thank god my a/c is fixed
|
iced cold drinks and 24/hr electric fan
:smokin |
the fan is the next best thing.. cold showers too. and wearing only light clothes.. here in the tropics.. we're used to the hot climate... what i hate is the humid feeling...
|

i did learn a new trick though. My office is over my garage, the garage is not cooled. Since i also use the garage as a shop to work on my bikes, and I live in Las Vegas, it gets too damn hot in the garage to do anything. So I bought an evaporative cooler. its basicly just a large fan that pulls air thru some pads that have water streaming over them. As the water evaporates, its cool the air, just like if you put alcohol on your skin, it feels cold as its taking the heat away as it evaporates, so same principle for the fan. So anyway now my garage is 20 degrees cooler, my office is cooler because the garage below it is cooler, and it only cost me $400 for fan. The fan is cheap to run, i mean its just a fan with a water hose connected to it. |

very very few people in the UK have air conditioning..in the past it was never this hot long enough to need it but over the last couple summers it has been really hot for longer. Units in the Uk are very expensive. I bought a bunch of fans during the last week of heat and they make things better but this batch of heat seems to have come with a lot of humidity and as an American by birth I know how that does you in. |
