Do you know HTML?

Well, do you? I think there are a lot of webmasters that don't even know HTML. It's kinda weird.

polish_aristocrat 08-02-2004 04:04 AM

I know it a little.

=^..^= 08-02-2004 04:11 AM

i do - learnt it by reading other ppl's source way back before WYSIWYG's existed
i dont consider anyone who doesnt at least know the basics of it to be a true web'master'

Nice... I learned it using GeoCities pagebuilder. I kept looking at my own source and then started using DreamWeaver. HTML is like a first language to me :Graucho

How old are you now?

Theo 08-02-2004 04:45 AM

Basic things, enough so i can fix a code error. It's not cost effective to code in html and not use a wysiwyg software.

alexg 08-02-2004 04:45 AM

Yeah I know html....learned it by myself from examples online..

I also know a little programming in a few languages, but I wasn't practising for a long time, so I'm not a pro in programming...

I do use dreamweaver as an html editor, but I change a lot of it's code..
I hate when editors put in a lot of useless code and make the page heavy

back in 97 on one of a jobs i had i had to fix tables in 200k html files, it got to the point that i could look at messed up table in the browser and tell exactly where the error was. used to dream in html

kowntafit 08-02-2004 05:11 AM

I got taught. It's pretty fucking easy.

Corleone 08-02-2004 05:13 AM

I learned HTML years before I become an adult webmaster.

But I dont think you need to know HTML today, I cant remember the last time I needed to edit something.
I do everything in Dreamweavers WYSIWYG interface.

Paul Waters 08-02-2004 05:40 AM

I am surprised at how few adult web sites use CSS.....

So much easier than those tables......

Vitasoy 08-02-2004 05:41 AM

learned html back in the day, but view source on pages.

DarkJedi 08-02-2004 05:45 AM

I've been mking sites in FrontPage for 4 years :helpme

C_U_Next_Tuesday 08-02-2004 06:22 AM

know it well...I hand code my pages even though dreamweaver can do it for me.. probably save me a shit load of time..

If you don't know it, it's hard to find out where you have an error on your pages or to make changes.

I had someone build my site when it first started. It was an incredible design.. but she used css which I had the hardest time trying to figure out where to do things when I updated... I just rebuilt the site myself so I know what the fuck is going on..not as pretty..but I can maintain it myself. :thumbsup

wyldblyss 08-02-2004 06:48 AM

My first html editor was "notepad" haha. I use dreamweaver now...but learning the basics by doing it all on your own sure helps when you are having a problem with the editor.

MattO 08-02-2004 06:55 AM

Notepad's for pussies! I write all my code on tiny pieces of cardboard with a sharpie, in the dark, which I then take digital pictures of, and run through an OCR program.

Raf1 08-02-2004 07:01 AM

I know enogh to make my stuff in dreamweaver :)
I hire people for more complicated things

strobi 08-02-2004 07:03 AM

WYSIWIG software places too many restrictions on the user to be cost effective for anything other than the simplest of sites.

I'm amazed so many people ticked yes!

knowing dreamweaver != knowing html

cfU 08-02-2004 07:31 AM

i think i learned it - after cobol, c++, oracle sql +, DB2, VB.........

DutchTeenCash 08-02-2004 07:35 AM
