How the Hell does anyone drink whiskey straight?
 

trying a shot from some 18 year old gibbons tonight - tried it straight - and it BURNED me.

I always start with it watered down and as the evening goes on less and less water.

but what I don't understand is how the hell ANYONE can - from sober - drink the stuff straight!

Yes it was the dirty glasses... I use them often when drinking straight out of the bottle.

My sister can chug a pint straight from the bottle. More than a shot glass I'm feeling the heebeegeebees. Beer's a different story:)

I'm with you, Sleazy. Whiskey straight -- maybe it puts hair on your nutsack or whatever, but it burns the shit outta my throat/stomach/everything in between. I don't care if it's the best damn single-malt you wanna put in front of me (I'm no pro, but I know the best from the rest) -- if it's straight, it's getting sipped for a good, long time...

I don't like it, so I quit doing it... and discovered that tequila (or a nice mescal) straight goes down *much* easier... :Graucho

the worst part is the air is dry here now cause it's winter and my lips are chapped all to hell, when any straight booze touches them it BURNS LIKE HELL

I'm drinking some fine Canadian Whiskey from your country...It's the cheap shit but it's good...If you want to get fucked up for a little dough, go to the liquor store and ask for some "Hardwood Canadian" whiskey....

I taught my sister how to drink alcohol without making it burn. Now even she enjoys a good whisky or a schnapps.

With ice, any whiskey goes down quite smooth. Straight is a bit harsh with cheaper whiskeys, but the good shit goes down as smooth as water.

bourbon, thats just a chaser for beer. serve me up a bud light and i always have to have a shot of crown (bourbon) to go with it :)

I've gotten so I don't even like it on the rocks anymore, it has to be straight, preferable in a nice thick whiskey glass with a cigar, and preferably at room temperature.

Just put a humidifier on your furnace. No more dry skin or staticy hair! :thumbsup

Holding your nose will also kill the taste and temper the burn...if you do not let go to soon. I learned this from an old bartender...as he always held his nose when he downed a shot.

Yeah actually I learned the no smell/taste thing in 3rd grade when my teacher had us hold our noses to show how you can't tell the difference between a raw potato and an apple when you do that... came in handy I guess :1orglaugh

I can only speak for myself. I was born with a glass of wine in my hand. I think fine wine/liquor is one of the finer pleasures in life and i indulge whenever i can ;-)

I drank a 26 of gibbson's and a mickey of crown straight out of the bottle on halloween and all was fine until we broke out the jagger... :winkwink:

I can't do whiskey and more. Got fucked up on it one night and haven't been able to go back yet.

Now, some Kettle 1 vodka on the rocks with a lime - that's the stuff.!! :glugglug

I never did learn alot of the differences in the wines. I used to be able to tell what the liquor was pretty easily. But as time has gone on, I got bored with it and rarely drink anything. Had some whiskey at a party awhile back and still can slug it straight down but nothing. Not even a little buzz. :(

i duno either.. i can't drink like that now no way.. i used to be able to tho... and i downed a bottle of everclear and puked for 2 - 3 days and fucked my liver up.. now just thinking of that taste makes me want to gag

I will never fuck with Everclear. When I was a kid, a bunch of us were on my friend's boat on Lake Michigan. His dad ran out of gas way the hell out from shore. But there was a bottle of Everclear in the bar. Hi dad poured that bitch it to the tank and the damn thing actually fired up! Ran fucking horrible and he nearly lost the engine, but we got back to shore. So no Everclear for me, thank you.

But, I have a whiskey made in 1963 (40 years old) thats very very very good :-)
