time is running out for the newbies...

I have been watching websites that deliver porn over the past 6 years (don't kid yourself, this is not the PORN industry), and it looks like the time is coming for CONSOLIDATION.

All these newbies out here thinking there is easy money selling porn reminds me of the days before the dot-com bubble burst, or the stock market bubble, or the collectibles bubble, or the mortgage refinancing bubble, or just about any other bubble of the past 20 years.

There are a skyrocketing number of websites out there all offering porn, and a lot of it is FREE. Plus, all this irritating popup and advertising crap is just training everyone to tune out any kind of sales message and to get pop-up blockers.

The day is coming for a HUGE shakeout.

If you do not already have access to at least 5 years of website and programming experience, save your time and money and go do something else.

Lane 09-16-2003 04:06 PM

newbies, porn is a dying business, get out while you can

yes, the good old days are over.
wasn't it just great when you had your busty-amateurs content, built a little free site and submitted it to dmoz?
2 or 3 weeks later the aol traffic came. aol = sales
it was so easy...

I need a hug :waaaaahh

After all the bad words during the last days, I think I should open a "Hug" thread where we all just hug each other.
Yeah, I feel like hugging right now...

swingerman 09-16-2003 04:17 PM

oh, forgot:
nowadays we have to work hard for our money (and even invest a lot). DAMN! this sucks big time ;)

stevecore 09-16-2003 04:21 PM

why does someone always come on here spouting this crap... they've been saying it for years now. people will come and go; newbies and seasoned veterans alike. stop whining about it getting harder and start learning how to work smarter.

PS You'll do fine if you promote Spooky Cash

slapass 09-16-2003 04:29 PM

So far we are still expanding. Dozens of paysite programs opened up this year. The only reason we did not get more was the VISA stuff. if anything that helped make the growth more managable. So we have more sites but we also have more buyers.

They are supposed to.
But they sell.

austinth 09-16-2003 04:48 PM

Oh crap! Does this mean I'll have to get out of bed early tomorrow and go look for a job?

Phoz 09-16-2003 04:50 PM

Tell me about it. A year ago I made $4000 monthly by submitting TGP galleries, now it's more like $400.

Traffic sucks, sponsor conversions suck, I suck.

To all the newb's... GET THE FUCK OUT! Go to school and get a degree... if anything happens with my biz, I have my BS degree to fall back on. BTW, I've been full time for 4+ yrs.

D_Nell - I 100% agree with you! The surfer wants real, first time, unseen fresh girls... not that BS shit content that's seen all over.

foulfowl 09-16-2003 04:54 PM

Stop? I'm making too much money with www.foulfowl.com

dirtysouth 09-16-2003 05:00 PM

7 year programmer with a shitload of mainstream stuff. Thanks for the warm fuzzy. I'm off to have another beer. :thumbsup

Plan9 09-16-2003 05:01 PM

As people have said before me - maybe the easy bucks are gone, but its still very possible to make a living and succeed in the industry. Its a growth market, more and more people are getting online every day, and the internet is the perfect medium for selling porn.
Please, PLEASE tell me who you are, and how you of all people know that the sky is falling? :winkwink:

Well it still not really about the content. Its about how much volume you can push

That's also true... a good site is nothing without mass, converting traffic. I've bought several spots on several top tgp's and while I do have close to 1,000 affiliates, I didn't renew my advertising for this mth. Needless to say, I'm down 20%. Just like ANY business it comes down to #'s!

I'm not a content broker but I do have several paysites. I will say, fresh content retains better :2 cents:

Matt 26z 09-16-2003 05:18 PM

Lots of people say the industry is dying because they and all their friends are getting huge ratio's. Everywhere they look they see people in the same situation.

That doesn't neceassarily mean it's industry-wide. It just means that particular circle of webmasters (and it may be a very large one) is expierencing those bad numbers.

Yes, the main circle seems to be going down the toilet though. Stop reading the resource site articles as if they are fact (it's far from it), and stop listening to the guys who've been around awhile but have no real talent.

This is true assuming the average surfer looks at a dozen TGP's per day, and each TGP posts generally the same content as the next guy. IMO neither of these are true.

woodsix 09-16-2003 05:33 PM

I'll admit, my days of hottrotting it on the web are long gone. After seeing so many bubbles and so many busts, this bubble is following all the signs of so many previous ones.

It is sort of like the market for clone PCs of the 80s, or even the search engine makers of the mid 90s, or the rush to produce cars, or whatever. In the beginning, you get people who are genuinely interested in the technology and in providing something meaningful. They take risks and are rewarded by making lots of money and establishing good reputations.

When people see that success, they want to copy it. This is when you get all the copycats.

Once the copycats jump in, the good days go bye bye. Why? You have a bunch of get rich quick and scam artists trying to exploit the opportunities that were there for the pioneers. They are not in it to actually provide something meaningful, their only goal is to make money. When money is your main concern, the customer becomes secondary.

People get in the industry with no understanding that this is a software business. Successful websites use all kinds of software, such as message boards, media players, slideshows, gallery makers, instant messaging, real-time video, credit-card processors, authorization scripts, etc. It does not matter what type of website you have, you NEED top-notch software.

These claims of so-called limitless growth are the same types of claims that are made during the height of almost any bubble. Believe me, nothing is limitless. At some point, the market will be saturated (if that is not already the case) and a HUGE shakeout will occur.

Someone made a great point that if you produce content, such as movies or images, then it is a whole different story. That is being in the PORN industry. But, if you run a website, you have to follow the rules of running a good website.

Most newbies just do not understand this nor have the experience to accomplish it. The days of the pioneer are over. Now is the time for the professionals.

nap 09-16-2003 05:35 PM

y do you care what newbies do? are newbies stealing what money you make from this industry? how about you make your money and keep your miss cleo readings to yourself:thumbsup
