Current Travel Warnings

Canada

March 28, 2003

This Public Announcement is being issued to alert U.S. citizens to the declaration of a Provincial health emergency in Ontario, Canada. This Announcement expires on June 26, 2003.

On March 26, the Government of Ontario declared Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) to be a provincial emergency. The declaration follows the deaths of nine individuals from SARS and the apparent manifestations of the disease in more than 200 individuals across the province. Canada is attempting to limit the spread of the outbreak by screening all passengers at airports for SARS symptoms. Health Canada sent staff to Pearson and Vancouver International Airports to help monitor passengers arriving on direct flights from affected areas for flu-like symptoms and to assist those who appear to be ill. Two major hospitals have been closed or restricted in the past 24-48 hours; other hospitals may also be affected. Ontario hospitals are operating under severe measures such as limiting access, restricting patient transfers between hospitals and requesting that those at risk of developing SARS place themselves under voluntary quarantine in their homes.

Detailed information on SARS is available from the Centers for Disease Control, http://www.cdc.gov and the World Health Organization http://www.who.int. A Fact Sheet for American citizens traveling abroad based on information from those websites is also available at the website of the Department of State?s Bureau of Consular Affairs, http://travel.state.gov. Information from Health Canada is available at http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca. Severe acute respiratory syndrome, known as SARS, has sent thousands into quarantine and put a strain on the country's health-care system, especially in Ontario, where most of the cases and all of the deaths have occurred.

The outbreak spurred the American Association for Cancer Research to pull the plug this week on a five-day convention of 16,000 people that was scheduled to start in Toronto on April 5.

The association said its members, especially those with clinical-care responsibilities, wanted to minimize the risk of spreading SARS among their patients, especially those whose immune systems are already compromised from their fight with cancer.

"It's a great regret to hear large conferences that have been planned for years in advance have unfortunately had to cancel," said Sheela Basrur, Toronto's medical officer of health.

Toronto Hoops Tourney Canceled Over SARS
Sun Apr 6,12:44 PM ET Add Sports - AP to My Yahoo!

TORONTO - A basketball tournament featuring top high school players from Toronto and Michigan was called off because of a mysterious and highly contagious respiratory illness.

The Can-Am Classic had been scheduled for April 12.

Parents of Michigan players did not want their children risking exposure to severe acute respiratory syndrome, event organizer Marv Pearl said Saturday. SARS has claimed eight lives in the Toronto area.

"They wanted information to show there was no problem, and we couldn't give them that assurance," Pearl said.

The tournament could still be played next month. But Pearl said authorities would have to confirm SARS was under control.

Putting SARS Into Perspective:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
www.webmastersummit.com

With the Webmaster Summit, ( www.webmastersummit.com ), fast approaching, many webmasters are concerned about the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in Toronto. All kinds of questions are being asked. "Is it safe to attend the Webmaster Summit? How many people are sick? Are flights restricted in and out of Canada?". To answer some of the many questions and to ease your concerns, let us take a look at the facts.;

Ontario is reporting,(as of April 3, 2003),67 probable and 79 suspect cases. Which equals 146 cases. Considering that Ontario has a population count of over 12 million, (2 million of which reside in Toronto), 146 possible SARS infected people is a relatively small number.

Seven people have died from SARS in Canada. Five of which were over the age of 70, and all were afflicted with other serious health problems.

All of the SARS cases have occurred in people who traveled to Asia, had close contact with an infected person in the household or healthcare setting. Unless you are treating a SARS patient in the home or hospital, visiting a SARS patient, or recently traveled to and from Asia, your chances of becoming infected are very low.

The airlines have placed restrictions on flights with routes to and from Asia. There is currently no restrictions on flights coming in or out of Canada, to or from anywhere other than Asia. You will see signs on the walls of the terminals to create awareness of SARS. The signs will also instruct you on what to do if you should feel ill or suspect someone else of being sick.

The city of Toronto is not under quarantine. The residents are free to move about and enjoy their lives without having to wear masks and gloves. Remember, the people at the highest risk of contracting SARS are:
1. Healthcare providers of SARS patients.
2. Family members of SARS patients.
3. Travelers to and from Asia.
If you do not fit into any or all of these classifications your chances of contracting SARS is very, very low.

For questions concerning SARS, contact:
Telehealth Ontario: 1-866-797-0000 or
Health Canada: 1-800-454-8302

Upon careful review of all the facts, we are positive that Webmaster Summit will not be putting ANYBODY at risk, so it will go on as scheduled. We have planned an awesome event, and hope to see everybody there !

Regards,
The Webmaster Summit Team

I have a theory how SARS got into Canada and I think it is all my fault. :(

I was down in San Fran last weekend partying with Ram and we went to this Tranny bar. This tranny bar was full of asian transexuals straight off the boat from Asia. Ram got a little too drunk and ended up making out with one of them. Hence he contracted SARS, I inturn ate one of his hashbrowns later on that night at an all night eat spot we went to after the bars.

I inturn returned back to Canada and continued my partying ways and spread the disease through the several bars and taverns throughout Vancouver.

Those people at the bars I was partying at returned to their homes and further spread the virus.

See if you learn nothing else, it is not to fuck with trannys!! Damn you Ram why can't you just leave the nice asian trannies alone! :1orglaugh
