    McDonald?s Profit Drops 30% as U.S. Sales Slump

    "McDonald?s Corp. (MCD), the world?s largest restaurant chain, said third-quarter profit fell 30 percent as U.S. sales slumped for the fourth straight quarter.

    Net income dropped to $1.07 billion, or $1.09 a share, from $1.52 billion, or $1.52, a year earlier, the Oak Brook, Illinois-based company said in a statement today."

                      I cannot remember the last time I've been in a McDonald's. I avoid it like the plague.

                      I had Wendy's last weekend, but that's rare. Can't remember the last time I've been in a McDonald's or a Burger King.

                                              I just remember how awesome the Big Mac's, Fish Fillet's and French fries were back in the 70's. They had the best burgers and fries around.

                                              Nowadays, I go there once a year, just to see if they are doing anything to make good food again. I can't even get warm fries if I eat in the restaurant, much less from the drive through lane.

                                              Their food quality has fallen so far. They are the worst burger and fries around, including the awful convenience store stuff.

                                                                  Fast food chains are starting to price themselves out of their biggest market (which is folks who aren't well off).

                                                                  I go there now and order a meal with 2 burgers, a fry, and a coke. It's almost $6 with tax. That same meal was less than a dollar when I was a kid. And around $3 in 2000.

                                                                  I went to Wendys and got the Single meal with a large chili...it's almost $8. Used to be $4 and change.

                                                                  I'm thinking, if you are a family on a budget with kids...and you wanted to take them to McDonalds for a "treat" once a week...you're looking at spending more money than you can afford anymore.

                                                                  It's just too much money for people on low incomes to afford to eat there much anymore.

                                                                  It's like candy and a soda at a convenience store.
                                                                  I go in and get a candy bar and a coke...it's over $3!!! That same combo was 20 cents when I was a kid, and I would get 5 cents back when I brought the bottle back to the store.

                                                                  I can still remember gathering up a dollar in change and going to the local convenience store and buying 100 tootsie rolls. lol

                                                                                              McD's charges their affiliates *rent*. McD's corporate owns all the McD's real estate. That is part of their corporate income and is a solid underpinning of McD's value worldwide. However, the franchisees are somewhat disgruntled, from an article I read, sorry can't find the link, it was months ago... McD's makes their franchisees pay for an interior remodel every few years to whatever theme corporate has decided is trending. This is generally a huge expense/loss for the franchisees because it has no impact on whether they get more or less custies. The law of diminishing returns... The only recent bend that corporate made for the franchisees was to end the promotion of the dollar menu.

                                                                                                                  Candy is getting ridiculous these days, not only are the prices high but the size of the candy bars are also smaller than ever. A normal snickers here is $2.29. Say a kid gets $20 a week pocket money these days, that can barely go see a movie with friends anymore. Candy in the cinema is even more expensive, figure $10 for a regular coke and a piece of candy. Ridiculous.

                                                                                                                      I knew a guy back home many years ago that was trying to buy the McDonald's he was manager of for so long ... wow, what he had to go through. First, there is Hamburgerology College, no bullshit. They have to do soooooooo much to franchise and the fees are just insane.

I rarely eat fast food, but I went with a friend to Taco Bell for lunch last week. I didn't order anything crazy, I got a couple of tacos, a burrito supreme a drink and a mexi fries (tater tots) and it was like $10.

                                                                                                                              Habitual smokers are immune to how ghastly their breath is, how their clothing smells, what their home smells like, how other smokers smell, etc.

                                                                                                                              After quitting smoking, you can smell another smoker 25 feet away and it can be nauseating.

                                                                                                                              When you are on a steady diet of fast food, you are likewise immune to how ghastly deficient in taste and texture it is.

                                                                                                                              Meats straight from a butcher are superior to the meats in the supermarket that are superior to what passes for meats at McD's.

                                                                                                                                              Only time will sort this out and in the mean time, Mc Donalds and the rest can go to hell and I will never miss them. Eat local, meal and a drink will cost 8$ to $10 with tip, but the quality is worth not saving a buck or two eating fast food bullshit. Your body will thank you.

I walk past the McD's in the corner of my supermarket parking lot every time I shop. Always a big line.. and that's around 1 am. The grocery store is practically empty. Never a line. Plus they sell beer.

                                                                                                                                                                      But once every couple of weeks or so we might all get to go to McDonalds (as a family). My parents and 3 of us kids. It was an inexpensive and kinda fun thing to do in a small town when you are a kid.

                                                                                                                                                                      Not so sure that it's so easy to do these days for those kinds of people because it's not a cheap night out anymore. So it gets done less (if at all) in that situation.

                                                                                                                                                                      These days...I go to Inn & Out. Not only do they taste better. But it's a lot cheaper to go there too.

                                                                                                                                                                      And if you go to Arbys? You might as well NOT go there and just go ahead and hit up a regular restaurant. It'll cost you about the same and the food will be better. Arbys is so damn expensive it's not even funny.

                                                                                                                                                                      And to think, a few years ago they were super cheap. They'd even run those promotions where you could get 5 roast beef sandwiches for $5.
                                                                                                                                                                      I used to grab a sack of 5 of them and bring them to the office for everybody.

                                                                                                                                                                                  Another chain, Saizeriya that specializes in cheap Italian snacks and meals was accused of having Chinese ingredients in their snacks claiming to be 100% Japanese ingredients. Saizeriya pulled the Chinese contents, apologized and gave away 500 yen coupons to anyone who came in, no receipt needed and said "I ate here and want my coupon." At Saizeriya, since they serve beer and wine, 500 yen can get you wasted or almost fed. Saizeriya is rocking again and McD's standing there with their dick in their hands. Pizza Hut, KFC and BK are in the same boat. Greed and stupidity have gotten them there.

                                                                                                                                                                                  Now McD's in Asia is realizing their fail and trying to give away 100 yen coupons and nobody gives a shit. The horse left the gate and McD's is FUCT. Good for them, their food is shyte.

                                                                                                                                                                                              I don't understand how poor folk can keep eating there - it's no longer cheaper than anything. Your local greasey spoon is cheaper. Plus, you have to check how "healthy" McD's is country-per-country, because of norms and regulations... it's much healthier in Europe than in the US, for example. More real food, actually...

                                                                                                                                                                                                  The grocery store doesnt have a drive-thru window.

                                                                                                                                                                                                  Most of the poor people eating fast food arent doing it because they are poor, they are doing it because they are lazy. They are probably poor for the same reason.
