An insane coincidence... Do you have any?

My gf wanted a new camera and she's the type to research the crap out of something for months before pulling the trigger (I do this myself) so she ends up finding exactly what she wants, with the lenses she wants on amazon. So PERFECT! I told her jump on it if it's the what you need.

She notices that the seller is canadian and thought she may as well contact him and see if she can avoid having to do any cross border shipping etc. Oddly enough he lives in the same city as us. Not only that but he lives one street over from her house. At this point I've got flags going off wondering if this is some stalker shit going down, but she never told him her address so wasn't the case. Gets weirder, he offers to drop it off at her office...HE WORKS ACROSS THE ROAD FROM HER OFFICE! At a garage where she gets oil changes often. He drops off the camera and she even knows him, he's her ex bf's brother in law. Windsor isn't that small for a canadian city.

There were over 15000 cameras of that type for sale on amazon that day, what are the chances?

Anyone else have oddities of similar caliber?

sitting at home, had a couple of beers, thought i might listen to some music (which i almost never do), picked a band i really loved 10-15 years back (The Levellers, from the UK), asked myself if they still exist, checked Google, turns out they were doing a concert 2 weeks later here in CZ. Of course i went to see them ;)

there are no degrees of coincidences!

there are just coincidences.

Back when I was in college and waiting tables for the summer at the beach, the last table of the evening was a couple and another gentleman. I overheard them mention a street that I knew was in the town where my parents were from. Trying to make a connection (and possibly bump up my tip a bit) I mentioned that my parents were from there and found out that they went to the same highschool.

I recounted the story my parents had told me of how one of their classmates had found a mountain lion cub and raised it. Apparently he would take it on dates and tell the girls they should sit close to him or the big cat might bite them. The guy at the table was that guy.

too many to list :)

and think about it, these are the only the ones we know about. Millions more coincides that seem astronomical probably happen all the time, it's just that we don't realise them. 6 degrees of separation, everything is connected to everything, etc etc

Had a crush on a girl in South Africa when i was 14 years old (1977). Left the country soon after, spent a couple of years traveling with my mom after my parents got divorced, never had any contact with her at all ever again. Ended up living in the UK. Flash forward to I was just about to turn 18 and I'm in Amsterdam, long haired hippie that I was, walking back to where I was staying after busking with my guitar all day in the square. I'm looking into a shop window and bump into some girl. Turn to apologize and it's the girl that I had had a crush on in South Africa almost 4 years before and over 5,000 miles away....

That's when I realized that it's a small planet.

The person waiting in line ahead of us could have all the answers to every question we have about life. But we never know, because we don't make that connection. Funny to think about.

I once had a childhood friend walk into a PX where I was standing in line on a NATO base in Bosnia. That was freaky, I hadn't seen him since I was like 10 years old. Turns out he was based elsewhere in the country with a different battalion.

Not exactly the place you expect to meet people from back home.

What are the chances? 1 in 15,000!

That was a cool bit of luck or coincidence or whatever you want to call it.

I read somewhere that Facebook have analysed all their users and got it down to 4 to link to anyone now. Shrinking world.

Years ago, I used to have a dream journal. The problem I grappled with was recalling so many vivid dreams that writing them all down consumed way too much time.

Then one night I dreamt I was watching a wrestling match in which the announcer mentioned the name Jeffrey Bates as the author of a book.

A few days later, I went to the bookstore and found the book Writing With Precision by Jefferson Bates.

It was a guide on how to write anything using less words to convey the same amount of information.

this happens to me quite often, but I like a lot of music and performers so I'm sure that is part of it heh Actually its normally I look up a band on ticketmaster and find out they played in detroit last week or some shit like that.

I guess these things are kind of common, it's just that we remember them more when they are oddities i guess.

baddog 11-07-2013 01:17 PM

I remember Sunday, January 10, 1982; my girlfriend and I were stranded in Guerneville due to a flood that actually closed every bridge in the area, including the Golden Gate Bridge.

There was no entertainment in town because of the high waters so all we had to do was have sex, even though she suggested this might not be a safe time to do it.

Coincidentally, 9 months later I was cutting the umbilical cord and had a daughter.

PiracyPitbull 11-07-2013 02:25 PM

During his youth a friend of mine used to do wetwork for extra cash. One job involved a particular scumbag that due blind luck and some fortuitous events, managed to escape his fate. Forward 25 years and my friend is the plus one at a wedding and low and behold, the groom was that very same scumbag that escaped him all those years ago.

Suffice to say, the Groom really enjoyed his special day and the guy finally took him out as contracted just after the reception finished.

Talk about blind luck.

probably lots but one i can think of off hand is myself having the same birthday as my girlfriends brothers girlfriend. a pretty odd coincidence. this lead my girlfriend to thinking this girl and her brother were meant to be (for some reason) but no, it only last 6 months or so.

1 in 365 chance of that, not as big a coincidence as it might first appear, unless you are talking year as well, but when you factor in the age range of siblings, it still isn't that vast a mathematical number, odds-wise :)
