How many threads per page is right?

Here we go again. Today there are more than 6 pages of active threads on GFY, at 60 threads a page.

How many pages deep do you browse?

How many threads per page should GFY have? Remember, the more threads, the longer the load time.

BJ 02-06-2003 02:12 AM

I like how it is

I swipe of the scroll wheel and you can get to the end of the page

pr0 02-06-2003 02:14 AM

10 threads longer would be perfect :thumbsup

eroswebmaster 02-06-2003 02:15 AM

I only go about 3 pages deep..and that's only to pull up a thread I was interested in that fell off the front page.

Other than that ...front page all the way baby.

I concur.

PersianKitty 02-06-2003 02:18 AM

it's fine the way it is for me. If someone is checking in more than once a day and browses back a couple of pages they see all that's there. If they're interested in catching up on a specific topic, they can search for it or go back through the pages to find it.

KRL 02-06-2003 02:20 AM

The deepest I'll go is 2 to 3. Its impossible to keep up with the volume now. Kind of frustrating because you want to do followup posting to prior posts, but there is just not enough time in the day for it.

But despite everything, this board is still the best out there in my opinion and certainly where you see the greatest concentration of a diverse lot of webmasters, from newbies to us older guys who have been in adult before the Net even started.

Cash 02-06-2003 02:21 AM

I like it how it is now, I sometimes go to the second page, not too often, and the 3rd or 4th only if there's something interesting that I couldn't see over a day or two ...

p!mpd0g 02-06-2003 02:22 AM

Since I am a regular visitor of this fine forum.. I think my :2 cents: will be valued as I am an upstanding member of this great community.
I only browse the 1st page, there is no reason for me to goto the 2nd page.. If it was important or peeked my interest, It would be on the first page.

The 2nd page is yesterdays news and doesnt concern me a bit.. I live for today and for the future, not yesterday and the past.

Jay_StandAhead 02-06-2003 02:24 AM

I think the way it is now is great.

I rarely go further than the first page, but I wouldn't mind 15-20 more threads per page.

Gutterboy 02-06-2003 02:44 AM

I like it the way it is. The volume is too much to really keep up with these days, but that goes with the territory.

stfu_Dave 02-06-2003 03:00 AM

It's good the way it is... but could a hack be installed to show on the bottom of the threadlist page which pages contain active threads from the past 24 hours (by using italics, larger font, or both, etc..)

example:
<table>
<tr>
<td align="right"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Pages (108): <b> <font size="2"><i>[1]</i></font> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=2"><i>2</i></a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=3"><i>3</i></a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=4"><i>4</i></a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=5"><i>5</i></a> <font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial"> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=6">6</a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&so</font>rtfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumber=7">7</a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=8">8</a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=9">9</a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=10">10</a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=11">11</a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=12">12</a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=13">13</a> <a href="forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=26&daysprune=30& sortorder=&sortfield=lastpost&perpage=60&pagenumbe r=14">14</a> </b></font></td>

i like GFY the way it is.

1 million posts cant be wrong.

flashfreak 02-06-2003 04:49 AM

I like it the way it is now, no need to change ...
There's a moron posting worthless threads these days, lets hope it won't last long....:winkwink:

Pete 02-06-2003 04:52 AM

Leave it the same as it is.

gothweb 02-06-2003 08:09 AM

I like it the way it is. If anything, I would knock a few threads off the first page to make things smoother. If I want to check a thread that might have died overnight, or whatever, I just go back a page or two.

Raph 02-06-2003 08:14 AM

50 threads (around 7 pages for today) would be another option .. but is it really useful to reduce loading time by 1/6 ?

I say leave it that way :thumbsup

Triple 6 02-06-2003 08:15 AM

Ok, let me say something different since this thread sounds like a broken record.

120 threads per page! Fuck load time, I got broadband, as most of us here do, and its loading mostly text! 120 baby! The server can handle it! Yeaaaa baby! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

FuqALot 02-06-2003 08:16 AM

I really don't care. 50 threads / 100 threads what's the deal. First 50 threads load at same speed anyway.

Lensman,
you Oprano friends will gladly take some load off your shoulders
;-)))

will you post URL where they can register or should I do it????

Free Ice Cream and popcorn to all new members!

Ross 02-06-2003 08:33 AM

I only usually browse on the front page, and if a thread I posted in has slipped off I go see what happened while I was away!

:)

polish_aristocrat 02-06-2003 08:39 AM

Usually I look only at the first page.
When I want to see a specific, older topic, I simply make a search. When I started a thread and wasn't here for the last hours, I simply search by my nickname to find the post.

I also think 45 or 50 posts per page should be better.
I don't mean the loading time, but lucidity.

RaiDeN 02-06-2003 08:48 AM

I only see / look at the first page to be honest,

its just too much to go trough all of it, would be a fucking workday

Raph 02-06-2003 09:09 AM

Here's an idea : decrease from 60 to 50 threads per page, but do not decrease the actual length of the page, just put more space between the threads.

Less hallucinations

machineg 02-06-2003 09:15 AM

Cant we set it in our user CP anyway ?

too lazy to look ..

That's what I thought.

hershie 02-06-2003 09:18 AM

I say 10 more threads per page.

If a thread falls off the front page, many don't bother going back and fewer probably will want to respond because of the perception that it is old already.

When there are as many threads per day as there is - many good threads are dying a premature death since there are many here who don't visit more then once per day and won't want to comment/post on an "old thread"

BV 02-06-2003 09:57 AM

More is better.

Ace-Ace 02-06-2003 10:00 AM

Not sure about loading time and all the other factors to take into consideration (nor have I checked or counted the # of posts on the first page), but I feel the same as others. I never check 2nd / 3rd page news under the impression "If it's important enough, it'll be bumped up here" which isn't the case at all. I'd say extend it by another 70-80%, to include most of the 2nd page; given load time isn't an issue.

This is a good idea.

alias 02-06-2003 10:18 AM

I read the first page only, when in slips to 2 its old news.

grumpy 02-06-2003 10:24 AM

Set some rules for posting.
Like newbie has been a member for so and so long before he / she is alowed to start his own thread.

Set a limit on the amounts of threads a person can start in a day / hour or something.

There is so much offtopic bullshit threads. For the real bullshit / spam Start another entry on the board.
just my :2 cents:

good idea ... at least set a limit one therad per person and day ... some idiots thinks it's too funny to create 20 threads a day ...

and so if you need 2 threads in a day you're fucked ?

not a good idea if you ask me ... can you say free speech ??

echo465 02-06-2003 11:12 AM

I usually only make it to page 2 or 3, and I agree that more is better

Have it be configurable up to 200 threads / page. If people like it the way it is currently, have it settable in the user profile.

:2 cents:

revbuddylove 02-06-2003 11:17 AM

Wait a minute, are you telling me there is more then ONE page?
I guess I have been missing a lot then. :thumbsup

So what if the person has a real question needing answered and can't start a thread, but others can post bullshit all day if they like because they have enough posts ?????

That's not what GFY is all about... :2 cents:
