Guess who's district the GOP is doing a gun raffle in?
|
I dont see what the big deal is. A few citizens that HAD guns came running to the rescue when they heard shots being fired. They just got to the scene moments too late.

i am actually not sure what to say. if you don't see a problem with the competing political party selling a gun, for 10 dollars, that was used to shoot a representative of the government not 6 months ago.. well.. |
Loughner used a Glock 19 9MM.

having a gun raffle within the same district is, to me, extreme bad taste |

She's alive because it was a 9mm, the 40 would have removed the back half of her head. |

And no, I'm not undecided. This situation MAY be insensitive to some. But, considering that gun raffles are fairly common, Arizona is a gun friendly state, that particular model is a desired and popular model, and it's been over six months since the tragedy... I think it is making a mountain out of a molehill. |
I dont think the GOP are ever going to be accused of showing too much good taste

It's impossible to not notice that Canadians spend day and night talking about the USA and US politics, economy, government etc. and there is very little discussion of Canada, particularly considering the number of Canadian programs and webmasters here. The ratio of Canadian discussion of USA to Canada is probably something like 1000:1. So ignorant? No. Certainly odd. Interestingly enough, it almost always seems to be to highlight things that are negative. Hmm.... |

Some people think gun owners are the people that they see on the 10 o'clock news.
They have never been around responsible gun owners. |
Wish they were rallying off an Ak or something along those lines, I would have bought a few tickets :thumbsup

Guns Cars The vast majority of gun owners are good, respectable law abiding citizens that have guns because they are sportsmen or hobbyists and would never dream of misusing them. Gun ownership for us a cultural tradition in the US and while anyone can debate the laws connected to the topic it is not an evil on it's own (Yes I am still extremely liberal) Of course having said that, it does not excuse the obvious lack or morality of having a gun raffle in the district of a congresswoman who was shot in the head not so long ago. I think most republicans would turn their head and laugh about it. |

so.. |
I see it mostly as really a lack of intelligence to make that decision. Were there really no people involved in the GOP raffle who thought maybe the timing isn't right for this? Are they really that out of touch with their constituents (that they are supposed to be in touch with) to not even think there is a very likely chance it will be perceived as controversial or insensitive?
There is a stream of nonsensical decisions in the the State of Arizona and I think this is just another example. |

I have several guns, I've given several to my daughter, latest was a S&W 40. It's registered to her and she has a carry permit. |

Read again what I wrote. I am not against gun ownership, I consider it a right of non-felony committing US citizens. I am against the lack of good taste that is so often shown by the right that's all |

it's just, on a basic principle, why is a government party raffling off weapons that are only used to shoot other people? THAT is insensitive. everything else is just batshit crazy |

Doesn't anything ever happen in Canuckistan that you flappy-headed fuckers can discuss? Why so much interest in what's going on south of your border?
