5 Campaign Fibs About the Economy

I found this article on Yahoo, it's pretty good and cuts thru the bullshit we keep getting told by everyone.
    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/5-Camp...53179.html?x=0

Net job losses under Bush, from the employment peak in December 2007 through January 2009:

    Total: 4.4 million

    Private sector: 4.6 million

    Government: 250,000 gain

Net job losses under Obama, January 2009--September 2010:

    Total: 3.3 million

    Private sector: 3 million

    Government: 357,000
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

I hope the right wins it all. Then it will be fun to see what the excuse will be for the shitty economy then. its funny your comparing obama numbers after the economy collapsed to Bushes when things were still good.

Smaller government would mean less government employees wouldn't it?

I mean, people say they are tired of big government don't they?

How do you get rid of big government and keep all the employees on
        payroll?

That in itself is a problem, but someone has to pay for those employees and there is a lot of government that we really don't need. I saw in the news that the UK is cutting a lot out of their budget right now. It will be interesting to see how that goes

I was watching an episode of Real Time With Bill Maher over the weekend and he had a woman on who helped for found one of the many tea party groups. They talked about how the Tea Party is all about shrinking the size of the government, but when Bill asked her to give explicit examples of how she would shrink it and what she would get rid of she had no real answers.

It was interesting. That said every republican candidate going back at least to Reagan has said they want to shrink the size of the government and none of them has, they have all actually grown the size of the government. Now we are getting the same crap package up again.

they have a plan, just that they don't want to tell anyone, if they did, it would give ammo to the left because it will not be popular
The biggest part of it is to stop government growth, thats what Reagan did I think. Then they need to go thru all the programs and figure out how to do it better.
In the government, there is a lot of management of management, there is a big chunk of what needs of a going thru and thinning the cost

I will agree with you about the management of management parts of government. The government will always hire four people to do the work of two.

As for Reagan stopping government growth. . . well. . . when he took office there were just under 16 million government employees in the country. When he left office there were just under 18 million. So he added about 2 million jobs to the government payroll (interestingly enough big government Clinton only added about 200K more government jobs during his presidency than Regan). While only about 400K of the workers added to the government payrolls during Regan's presidency were on the federal level, Clinton actually reduced the number of federal government employees.

I think most people will agree that the government grew in size under Clinton. But to me the numbers show that it grew by about the same amount under Regan.

Isn't that a lot like the left not wanting to fully disclose what is in the healthcare bill because they knew it would be unpopular and would give ammo to the right?

It seems to me that if you want to lead this country you tell people where you stand and what you stand for. You tell them what you would do if they elected you. You don't keep it a secret then spring it on people once you have been elected.

Nah I get mine from DW TV, Reuters, Bloomberg, then about 10 independent country newspapers. I pull the feeds in and get a good cross reference of global sentiment and news.

But I did like the attempt at leftist disarming humour, since I am very not left wing, I find it funny when american republicans fall to that base insult attempt like somehow watching a "left" leaning news outlet makes you a communist .

When your ONLY plan is to fight the President, and to sharpen the Washington divide, then you clearly do NOT deserve to be elected back in at all!

                          From YESTERDAY'S interview...

MCCONNELL: The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.

                          Oh really? That's your plan?
THAT is the most important thing you can do?
                          How fucking pathetic!

                          More here...

So in a nutshell, both Bush and Obama are roughly equally bad, or at best, equally ineffective.

Not surprising, since both major parties are basically one in the same - there's not any meaningful difference, but then there hasn't been for decades...

It's much akin to major league baseball teams, which for the most part are pretty equal (USA Today just ran an article regarding that topic), and yet most baseball fans feel "their team" is much better / different than the others when in reality they're pretty similar.

As far as job stats ... one needs to closely analyze the government data to get any semblance of the true picture regarding jobs. In addition, not all jobs are equal - many pay far less than the jobs of yesteryear...

$8-$15 seems to the be the new pay range for all sorts of jobs, including office, low-management jobs, and manufacturing - the era of $20/hour even at union shops is rapidly disappearing - heck, saw some articles awhile back regarding union autoworkers, who are often associated with high wages, that many in that field are now only getting around $12-$14 per hour with limited benefits.

Exactly. So how is the Tea Party not telling people what their real agenda is and basically saying, "Vote for me so you can find out what my real ideas and agenda is" any different?

The biggest part of it is to stop government growth, thats what Reagan did I think. Then they need to go thru all the programs and figure out how to do it better.
In the government, there is a lot of management of management, there is a big chunk of what needs of a going thru and thinning the cost
The size of government has grown under every administration...in my life time...including President Reagan.

Every single one that I have seen interviewed...has refused to state specifics...even when the interviewer presses for specifics...and speak in generalities...which in essence is not to have a plan...other than possibly trying to get elected.

But I did like the attempt at leftist disarming humour, since I am very not left wing, I find it funny when american republicans fall to that base insult attempt like somehow watching a "left" leaning news outlet makes you a communist .
Too bad I'm not a republican, I don't care much for either party, but I am for candidates that have real fiscally responsibility, although few and far in between and the crap the democrats have been doing really pisses me off.
I get a lot of my news from RSS feeds on my blackberry, Fox, MSNBC, Reuters, CNN, ABC, AP and yahoo are my staples

I'll tell you why the Tea Party is such a threat of the Status Quo, they have no leadership, they have something like 2800 local groups, they have simple core values that are hard not to argue with and they back candidates that take out even republican incumbents. They have formed a caucus I believe, but they have been put together in a way thats hard for the liberals to attack, all they seem to have is the race card, which when played as much as they have been just makes them look silly.
Even the Washington post ran that study about their signs that found they are indeed NOT racist, that the media has been putting all their focus on just 5% of their signs, 5%, thats pretty low.
I also read that they are planning on keeping pressure on the people they help get into office, so hopefully this is a game changer
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
                                          think about that
