Anybody seen Final Fantasy yet?

Of course if you know me, you know that I saw it the day it opened. My boss took me and "Mike" to go see it at lunch time.

I wasn't going to say anything because I tend to be a bit harsh when reviewing movies.

The animation in it was amazing and well worth seeing for the visuals alone. The story line was a bit heavy for kids, and the character development was a bit weak. There were unnecessary characters in the film, but I don't know anything about the game, so maybe they needed to be there.

Some of the climactic moments seemed a bit forced, and didn't have a lot of buildup to them. I assume this is so the kids don't get lost in the buildup.

One moment everything is fine the next moment there is a heavy dramatic, tense scene, no real build.

But like I said, It's worth seeing for the visuals, but I doubt I'll see it again in the theatre.

And as far as kiddie-cgi porn goes. Implied sex is the same as the real thing. It's the intent. That's what's fucked up.

Jimmy deserves a big, "Go Fuck Yourself" just for even bringing it up. Although, I disagree with it, I guess it needs to be discussed, before some idiot goes out and does it.

tit, that's only for motion capture. It helps make the animation easier, but you could also animate in a more traditional manner but it's a little more difficult.

There are several motion capture techniques... The have body suits, lazer beam rooms, animatronic puppets w/ motors that feedback movements to the animation program...

Well we already have really fucked up anime that you can buy -- monsters raping women with thousands of penises ripping their bodies to pieces -- it's all over the internet...

I'm sure we will see more motion captured porn. Some of the reasons it hasn't been done yet is the rendering times for realistic human bodies... also porn is very much about skin contact, subtle things like sucking, jiggling, etc... ;) (ie: object collisions) Very difficult to animate and the way skin moves and deforms for example when you squeeze a breast -- it would require very complicated motion capture and most of it would need to be edited by hand by artists -- very tedious and expensive... If you just did straight motion capture of two figures fucking it would look silly.

it was pretty damned time consuming when they hooked my kid up to that glowy ball thingy. they even had to put one right into her leg muscle with a tiny wire. youch!

but when they got her all hooked up, she walked across this grid sorta area and you could see a skeleton of her doing the same moves on their comp monitor. nifty damned shit. i would imagine that kind of technology is sooo not cost effective for the average adult content provider.

One of my friends saw it and he said the emotions of the characters always seem off by 1 click ... And he said the movie does not spend 3/4 of it's lenght with the heros trying to catch a Golden Chocobo, so it does not reflect the game ...

my kid's prolly gonna see it this weekend with her dad. she's a final fantasy freek. i played the old one on nintendo and i liked it, but I'm more of a zelda fan. still working on majora's mask...i like a game where i can take my time

Lane, they don't actually render the whole movie at once. I have a friend at ILM. He used to work at blur studios. (Right down the street from The FLY's house)

In the back of their studio they have a huge rack unit with like 30 to 40 servers on it. They are all networked to those servers, so when they want to render something it goes into a que, and when a server becomes available, it begins to render. They only render short sequences ata time, and then they just edit all those sequences together.

But a high end dual processor computer could easily do an entire sequence. But it would take a while.

Because of the computer graphics, the movie is a must-see. However, the plot is a bore and has New Agey overtones that make folks like me chuckle. Strangely, Aki, the lead character and the other female character were the least convincingly rendered characters. The old scientist was the best rendered and all the males were rendered better than the two women.

Skin and hair were done nearly perfectly, although Aki's hair often looked like a field of wheat waving in the wind. The face is a very subtle thing, though, and often the characters' faces seemed rather immobile when compared to an actual human's face. We have a lot to learn about the subtleties of facial expression. I'd say they're only about 80% of the way there at this time.

Still, the movie is visually beautiful and I wasn't bored for one second, though I was always more fascinated by the visuals than the plot.
