Seriously, though - with the enormous proliferation of password sites and boards and stuff - mostly (in my experience) located in places like Hungary, Germany, Korea, Russia etc. - how the hell does anyone make ends meet?
I saw one listed for teenflood which had been there for like 2 weeks, for example. And these places have soo much traffic, I can only assume 10s of GB have been drained from the site because of it. Not to mention (probably) some lost sales for them.
Really what I'd like to know is this:
There are strong arguments against anyone operating a password site. But is there any way of stopping them? Who cares about a Hungarian passwd site? I mean who cares and also has the power to kill it?

There are good watchdog scripts out there to stop a password breech pretty quickly. Ironically, a good password site can get signups for a paysite too (sort of like a free tour I suppose) but only if it's cut off in time. Or you can make a scam pay-site loaded with banners, and upsells and crap, a couple hundred pics, a few thousand blind links, put it in a "protected directory" and then post it on the password sites
I don't know how good password traffic converts compated to other traffic. I suppose about the same percentage are not old enough to own a credit card

I have a script like that on my site, but there are literally 1000s of sites that use (e.g.) CCBill and they do NOT use any "protection", and they have no idea they are being ripped off. CCBill does have a tracking program. It was down for a while, but I think it's back up again. Of course, I couldn't wait 6 months to see if they'd bring it up again and stop the password trading... so I had to take matters into my own hands.Originally posted by richard123:

You're right about unprotected sites hurting things but, on the bright side, each unprotected site can't last for too long once they're targetted by traders.
RIP, your right, the traffic isn't that productive. It probably converts lower than the worst TGP traffic but it can get a few sign-ups nonetheless. You'd have to have a site with content the people at the password site are looking for, let them in for free, cut it off to throw them into withdrawals and then hope they have credit to come back in. I've done it, but I'm not sure if I'd walk that business plan into a bank.
