    What's your favorite flick...?

I'm talkin' about all time classics here, people!

I've been a wannabe screenwriter for quite some time now, so I have a very WIDE range of faves...but to me, what it all boils down to is "Goodfellas" (just about every star in that put on a clasic performance!). I'd have to say number two is "Bottle Rocket". Another classic that didn't make it everywhere, but if you have the chance I STRONGLY reccomend it! You will NOT regret it. Trust me!

Oh, I'm sorry...I forgot to mention THE all time flick of the 80s..."Breakfast Club"! Just cuz there's cheese doesn't take it out of the "classic" stage!

I wish you luck. I'm working on the final script and setting up a shooting schedule for my own indie attempt but won't begin filming until some time next year.
Anyway, one of my all time favorite classics is Touch of Evil, one of Orson Welles' finest works. Welles captured the dark side of humanity and perfected the film noir in a singular, brilliant effort. You can see the opening sequence, a single take about 3 minutes long, imitated in movies today.

GodFather, Taxi Driver, One FLew Over The CooKoo's Nest, GoodFellas, GodFather 2, Casino, Singing in the Rain, A ClockWork Orange, BraveHeart, Dangerous Liasons, Ben Hur, Rebel without a cause, Rear Window, Rope, Psycho, Virgin Suicides, Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption, The Road Warrior, The Unforgiven, Full Metal Jacket, I could go on for days...

I don't have a particular movie that led me to the movie business. But I got in, because I love movies. I do special effects, http://kevinyagher.com

My love for movies runs deep, and that's why I will fight to the DEATH and prove to anyone that GLADIATOR was a PIECE OF SHIT FILM!!!

eRock, if you're going to Vegas let me know we'll have to do lunch.

Hey Watsonian, remember the opening sequence in Godfather 1. The Mortitioan, the reflection in his eyes burning into the screen. The room is dark, he is visibly a passionate man. A man who loves his daughter. A man asking for the Godfather to commit murder... Also a brilliant, long opening...I love that!

RedShoe, nice list. I'd throw in Seven Samurai, Hidden Fortress, The Wild Bunch, Nosferatu, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Ten Commandments, Little Caesar, The Birds and I could also go on for days.

BTW, I loved Full Metal Jacket but I can't get over how it makes me feel like it's really two different but related stories.

Gladiator was an awesome gladiator movie. I'm a fan of the Italian gladiator/Hercules movies and expected nothing more when I went to see it.
Was it "Best Film" or "Best Story" caliber? Hardly. Was there a story? Hehe...

Did you catch Magnolia? A buddy of mine worked on it and he made me and the wife watch it. I must confess that I was pleasantly surprised and entertained. Found myself buying it on video a week later to watch it again.

I also loved those films. 2001, 10 commandments, great films.

I'll be honest with you, I couldn't get into Magnolia. I'm sure it's a great film, maybe I just say it at the wrong time or something. I usually try to watch all films as openly as I can, and five them a fair chance.

I too like gladiator films, but "Gladiator the movie?" Forget it.
You're right, no story, bad conflicts, I had more compassion for the Germainians, than I did the Romans.

You can't train a man to be the strongest fighter in the Roman army, knock him down, and not expect him to fight back.

Do you like depressing films? One of my latest favs in this genre is "Requiem for a Dream" Great film. , I mean depressing film

Alot of great films here - GoodFellas, A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, but nobody mentioned American Beauty which I thought was one of the best movies of the 90's.

I can't list just one. It changes from day to day. "The Opening of Misty Beethoven" comes to mind immediately, and then there's my own "The Hotel Shoot" (http://www.afterglow-photo.com/aftvids.htm), but I suppose you're asking for nonporn Hollywood movies. Here are a few faves:

Alien (seeing Ripley in her skivvies with the monster literally feet away was a formative experience).

House of Games (Lindsey Crouse plays a psychotherapist who becomes a bit too fascinated with Joe Mantegna, the leader of a crew of con artists).

The Fifth Element (one of the ten best sci-fi movies ever made).

Blade Runner (easily one of the ten best sci-fi movies ever made, especially the Director's Cut).

Wings of Desire (the German film upon which the much inferior City of Angels was loosely based).

There is a documentary about the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright which I can watch over and over. (I don't know if you've ever thought about it, but FLW is probably the only American visual artist who can pretty much undisputedly claim to be the best in his field.)

Momento and Requiem for a Dream have just been added to my "must see" list.

Depressing films? I guess that depends on your interpretation of the word. I am a fan of Igmar Bergman but I don't find his films as depressing as some critics would have me believe.
I found What Dreams May Come to be quite depressing, mainly due to the end scene and it's disregard for the cycle of nature.

Honestly, what depresses me most is the number of television commercial directors given millions of dollars to make "Weekend at Bernie's" quality films.

When will the Skittles commercial director(s) make a movie? Am I the only one that sees a Ridley Scott influence there?

                          Favorite film of all time?

                          Tough call.

A great film based on true life is 8 seconds. Was a little cheesy on how it was filmed, but still a good flick.

A good film is the original bonnie and clyde. Was pretty violent and realistic when it was filmed. A lot of films since based off it. NBK etc..

1 of my FAVORITES of all times is Tombstone! Especially Val Kilmer! Probably his best work ever!!

My top 10 favorite movies of all time include (in no particular order):

                              1) Run, Simon, Run (still looking for the video - I have an old worn out video taped from TV so many years ago & the songs by the Orphanage is great)

                              2) Hawk The Slayer (I finally found the video on ebay & snatched it up - this is what the movie Dungeons & Dragons should have been like)

                              3) Wizards (animated classic)

                              4) Rocky Horror Picture Show (great music & great costumes - what more do you need)

                              5) Knightriders (knights on motorcycles & very depressing ending)

                              6) Wild In The Country (favorite Elvis' movie but all his early stuff is great)

                              7) Five Card Stud (Dean Martin movie - love to find the soundtrack)

                              8) Tommy (one of these days I would love to see the play version)

                              9) Heavy Metal (another animated great - second one was okay but the soundtrack wasn't as good)

                              10) The Graduate (still Dustin Hoffman's best work but Little Big Man comes in close second)

There are so many good movies out there. Maybe I should start my own movie page.

                                          Stories?

Hands down, my favorite story is the GodFather. The way that Michale flips 180 degrees from beginning to end is just incredible.

Then there are just a bunch of my favorite stories:
                                          The Color Purple, great story.
Strictly Ballroom - total cheese, but pretty damn funny.
ClockWork Orange - Ultra dark comedy, ulra violent. Right right.
                                          Fargo - great dark story
American Hiostory X - great story. I love redemption films.
Ghostbusters - total cheese, but fun
The Mean Streets - Deniro fan.

And of course I like any film that I work on, like "Species II"

                                          NOT!!
Yuck! That fime sucked. It wasn't even cheesy fun.

Basically Redshoe and I have the EXACT same taste in movies, so he got them all for me.

Special note: Clockwork Orange, best film ever made (Anything Kubrick....yes even Barry Lyndon lol), And the Rocky Horror Picture Show as #2.

Best "storytelling" pics...All The Presidents Men, LA Confidential & Usual Suspects.

Scariest...The Shining, The Changeling, The Exorcist and The Original Nightmare on Elm Street. (Although I'm missing many)

You know what...I'm gonna have to think on this one. Cuz I'm spacing out and I do not want to miss any of the spectacular movies that gave me sanity thru my teenage years lol.

Your jab at Species II reminded me of the male lead in that film. He was also in one of the scenes in a movie I left off my list:
                                                Resevoir Dogs
