Bashing Americans, what a completely novel and never been done before way to pass the time.
It amazes me how hated we are in the world. There is rarely anything said that couldn't be said about any country, yet the remarks are always aimed at us.
There are dumb people everywhere.
As far as geography goes. Most countries mentioned know more about us because of news originating here, and movies/tv originating here. How much did you really learn in school about us...probably about the same we did.
It is up to the individual to educate themselves on the world. Most schools do not do it for you unfortunately.
I know a great deal about other countries/cultures because it fascinates me and I learned it on my own from books and traveling. Down to language, customs, history..the whole deal.
If others are not as interested with the world, this does not automatically equate to stupidity. When will people of other countries stop calling Americans ignorant just because they may not be interested in their country?
The only gripe I have with americans (on this subject) is if you are lucky enough to get to travel to another country, the least you can do is try to learn a few phrases and the local customs, maybe a little history of the people and their country, etc. It's the best way to dispel all of the "arrogant american" talk.
When traveling even I notice how insulting it is for Americans to think they can go everywhere and be catered to with no effort on their part.Comment

Then i started traveling extensively through America and i realized that Americans, at least the ones that I met, are an incredibly friendly and intelligent bunch of people.

They may have more stupid people than up here in Canada, but they also have 10 times the population.
I'd have to say that anyone flaming or slagging Americans hasn't traveeled in America much.....and probably should!

What I find interesting is the revers snobbery that some Canadians have.
Playing Nicklaus North over the weekend at Whistler we had a Canadian playing in our Foursome.
He made some disparaging remarks about Americans and became red faced when I told him I was an American.

Just out of high school myself I can tell you part of the problem with so many Americans being dumb. My freshmen and junior years my teachers spent 3 weeks discussing the Bill of Rights. My senior year 4 of my teachers used the same lesson plans for the Bill of Rights all at the same time. I'm not saying that the Bill of Rights isn't important, but how many times do I really need to relearn it? I learned new things in 2 of my classes in high school and they were specialized classes, one I created by myself.
By the way Anthony getting into Canada was easy for me. They simply asked what I was planning to do there and if I had any tobacco or alcohol product. Getting back to the US was a pain in the fucking ass!!!!! I had to show my ID and my car was searched. By the way the fucking piece of shit that searched my car put a dent in my mom's cooler and shut my leather jacket in the trunk door.

If Americans only knew how censored they are here, they would riot -- if their two braincells remembered what that was. I happened to have been in Europe when Estonia declared its independence. It was the lead story for days and days. Looking in Time and Newsweek - nothing. I asked when I got back to the states if anyone had heard about it, and all I got back was, "Where's Estonia?" Our government decided the people did not need to know. Estonia is a small country, and has little or no bearing on our Gross National Product.
Listen to the local news carefully, people... every event is "tragic", every victim is "devastated". The adjectives flow freely, but they do brainwash those who cannot tell the difference.
If Americans are perceived to be stupid, it is because they have allowed it to happen to themselves.

Hi all,
Well, i've never been to America, and the ppl from there i've met seem like everyone else, a lot are stupid, some are smart and most remain clueless.
But as i mentioned, you get that everywhere you go.
as a country, america is interesting, there are school kids shooting each other with their fathers' guns, and no-one seems to think limiting the availability of these weapons would make a difference.
americans seem to think they have single handedly won two wars, but history shows they entered the first one late, and russia was just as important in the outcome of the second, if not more so.
the super power arguments are a little petty, as its already been mentioned, there was a vacume, anyone could have stepped in. it turned out to be america and russia because the former was not bombed to ground level, and so still had its inferstructure intact (unlike europe), and the latter was a huge country with resources to match.
anyway, thats my dribble for now, think i've gone on a bit too much...
