Now they're attacking the filtering software

yup, it's ridiculous.
listen to this suggested fix:
can you imagine if we all had to give up our .com's?!Separate the porn from the prosaic. One proposal is to create a top-level domain, like .xxx, to house adult sites. It would be easy to filter these sites out and they could be given a "safe harbor" in such a domain where they would be free from potential prosecution. Sites not in this domain would be subject to legal hassles and would risk being filtered out at the ISP level. One way to enforce this: No credit card transactions for adult sites that fail to comply.
i hope to hell that not too much regulation ever hits the internet.
the software should just work better, how about that for a fix?!

I think that filtering software in libraries is a FUCKED UP situation.
PARENTS are the fucking irresponsible ones. Why should MY income be fucked with, because some fucking losers of parents are too fucking stupid to BE WITH THEIR KIDS when their kids are online???
Parents today are SO fucking stupid, but they don't want to shoulder the responsiblity they gave themseves when they decided to throw some kids into the world, so they blame US for their own fucking ignorance.
It's a fucking fuckity fuck fuck.

Also, I've read filtering software blocks
a good of good content too....
I don't see the point of filtering software
anyway, parents can just watch their kids
right? If they go on the street there's no
filtering software for your kids to see
drugsdealers either.
BTW if kids are looking for subjects which
are not porn-related or anything, I don't
think there will be a lot of porn-related
results right?

Skitz your always get defensive when something threatens your wallet. All you gotta do is roll with the punches and you'll come out even richer.
Think about all those surfers. Every one of them would be overage and everyone of them would probably need a credit card to access the "adult" internet. That means $$$$$ ching ching, bling blingComment

Ummmm my stepdaughter was looking for the spice girls when she was first learning how to search. And right in front of us popped up a porn site. We checked and sure enough they had the spice girls in their meta tags. Now should parents have to police sites or should that sort of stuff not be happening?? I mean if we have no ethics at all then we're trying to purvey porn to the kiddies. We can't fault parents for not being puter savvy enough to be able to outwit their kids who are trained on the things in school! Its up to us to handle the problem to a degree. Just like my gun store owner example in a previous post.<center><a target="_blank" href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac"><img border="0" src="http://216.130.172.224/gfy/gsig.gif" width="490" height="100"></a><br><a href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac" target="_blank"><b><font face="Arial"><font color="#FF99FF"> Buy me away from Slavedriver Smokey!<br>It's May Sig Sweeps!<font></b></center>Comment

if they just gave us one simple keyword or line we should ad to our pages to block minors everything would be fine, who want minors on their sites anyway? the havn't got a CC.
It saves us bandwith and they can produce thier filters.

We Agree. A meta with just XXX should be able to cover it. And puters with that built in the op system. But then all the filter software companies would whine. lol<center><a target="_blank" href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac"><img border="0" src="http://216.130.172.224/gfy/gsig.gif" width="490" height="100"></a><br><a href="http://dev.datedollars.com/index.php?s=signup&aid=535&cfg=aac" target="_blank"><b><font face="Arial"><font color="#FF99FF"> Buy me away from Slavedriver Smokey!<br>It's May Sig Sweeps!<font></b></center>Comment

sorry about verbally assaulting you earlier gemini. just felt like venting some steam.
You're absolutely right about the spice girls thing. How can you leave your kids alone on a computer when if they put "britney spears" in the search box they end up getting porn?
I thought the internet would be useful for school when i first bought a computer. Was I wrong about that. Seems to be there's nothing educational on the internet because of copyrights. Take a look at the worlds entire E-library:

Everybody's Dead! At least Jimi Hendrix' relatives let the world have purple haze.

Gemini...
Filtering software in your HOME would have kept that from happening.
Filtering software in a library that I helped pay for with my tax dollars is called "cencorship."
SweetJimmy....
I don't make my living from porn
I'm just a hobbiest.

Skitz you know those filters don't work. There are a few billion pages on the net with thousands of new pages going up everyday.

the only problem with the XXX in the meta tag is that people won't do it.
for plenty reasons:
1) people won't know about it (newbie webmasters). sure there sites are small but they'll be getting a lot of search engine traffic if they're the only ones showing up! lots of traffic isnt' good for signups but it's good for traffic trading.
2) webmasters won't think it's good to block their sites against kids (for reasons stated above in #1, after all, why put spice girls in the meta tag?!)
3) etc. (more reasons but i made my point)

Gemini, we had a similar thing happen to our kids. We have 2 boys 9&11, well the 11 yr old is a sports fanatic. Both kids have their own puters, and are very good, they each use front page and design small home pages for all their friends, Yes Mom and Dad help a little. Well anyway 3 weeks ago the 11 yr old was trying to get some info on football trivia, he went to a few search engines and typed in "Football" ...well in one of the results he got some Fetish Foot site.. He freaked out..This shit isnt right.

(reply to thing about losing .com in place of .XXX)
I think it's a good idea that should START now. Basically, if you register a new adult site it should have an XXX domain.
Current webmasters with .com 's will have their .xxx domain frozen by the registrar's and the registrar will freely change your extension to .xxx
Of course there will have to be at least 6 months to a year to allow for transitions (e-mail addresses, SE listings, etc..)
I think that there would be a way to make the transition without $$$ lost for webmasters.
As for the META tag, ignorance is never an excuse. Again, it would need some transition time.

You know, skitz already said, the problem is, that parents wont take any responsibility no more... Of course, porn is something for adults, and children shouldn't see, but don't blame the filters, blame the parents !!! everytime a young boy or girl kills anybody, the parents and lawyers blame TV or Videogames. IN WHAT A FUCKED WORLD DO WE LIVE? If anyone decides to get children he or she should know, that they have to take much time for their children: take them out, play with them, educate them, AND WATCH THEM! How stupid one has to be, to think he could blame someone else for his educational failure??Comment
-
I think the point to be made is: why when I search for a Scooby Doo screen saver do I get caught in the porn loop of endless Teen Steam pop-ups with 5 kids under the age of 8 watching me.
I read an article recently written by a mother that was complaining about how bad the SE's have become because of webmasters using this stuff in their tags. She was absolutely right and something should be done. If a kid types the word cunt in, then he or she is going to get cunt material but not if they type in Scoody Doo or Blue's Clues.

ya, sure blame A, blame B, you fuckin yanks will blame every1 if ya get a chance to sue!
No one lets their kid wander around a big city by them selves, or into a rough 'hood. This is the Internet. Millions of fucked up ppl put up sites for their own fucked up reasons. The reason the internet is good is because it lets them do this - no more big brother censorship (it is illegal to show an erect penis in the UK, even though half the worlds population gets one! wtf?). While it's sad that some sites will do anything to get traffic, is it not sad that your fuckin nike trainers were made by an 8 yo in india?
Or that by buying a BigMac (c)(r) you give money to the IRA to kill innocent kids?
Parents are resposible for their children.
Don't let kids play with guns/porn/traffic/drugs etc. All are available to them.Comment

they cannot make us drop our .com... you know how many lawsuits they are going to get??
thehun.com, playboy.com, sex.com, etc....
ALL the big companies like CE, MC, CEN, SIC, prolly u lens.... I mean, watch all those lawsuits come out.... last few numbers I heard was 2.9millions/day that the porn was generating... droping .coms will surely make that drop... I don't think all of us will say... oh sure, go ahead

I've solved the whole problem already, just no one listens.
There needs to be a .kid domain, instead of filtering software browsers should have a "Kid Browser" built in that only allows websites that end in .kid - using the full-version browser would take a password.
All childrens sites would hop on it immediately. Any non-kid sites that used it could be fined heavily.
The internet isn't for children and it never was, despite what Dell and Gateway want you to believe. A tiny percentage of websites are free and educational, most are porn, shopping or advertising - all things that kids don't need to see.Comment
-
Warp- nice idea! It works the same as real life - kiddie playgrounds, schools etc. We let kids go to where they are safe. When someone screws with their safety in those environs, they get in trouble with the law.
I like it.Comment
-
I was just about to register for a new domain. I'm glad I read this.
But I don't see an option at registrars.com to register a .xxx
So what now?
