Free Speech Coalition Matter !

Lately, I've been declining some shoot bookings and invites that involve me having to do the round-trip drive between San Diego and Los Angeles, but the below sounds like a not-to-be-missed matter that I (and YOU?!) should attend. Here's a copy/paste about this important event from their/FSC weekly newsletter ([email protected]) Note the part where present FSC members may attend for FREE; non-members are only $30! Also, pre-registration is required.

"ADULT AND MAINSTREAM MEET TO DISCUSS THE CHALLENGES OF THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT

CANOGA PARK, CA - The Free Speech Coalition (FSC) has announced the lineup of speakers for its summit "How to Survive and Thrive in the Digital Environment," to be held Nov. 18 at the Sheraton Universal, in Universal City, Calif.

The day-long seminar will feature noted experts and advisors from the adult and mainstream worlds of entertainment, including a panel discussion with Vivid Entertainment Managing Partner Steven Hirsch and Adult Entertainment Broadcast Network (AEBN) Founder and President Scott Coffman.

Each segment of the program will bring leaders from various sectors of entertainment media to speak on important areas of interest for all content producers, including:
• Steve Kang, senior counsel for anti-piracy legal affairs at NBC-Universal
• Dean Garfield, executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of the Motion Picture Association of America
• Alasdair McMullen, Senior Vice President of Business Affairs, EMI Music North America
• Gill Sperlein, In-House Legal Counsel for adult producer Titan Media
• David Kaplan, Vice President of the anti-piracy division at Warner Bros. Studios
• Keynote luncheon speaker James Griffin, Warner Music Group
• Jennifer Pariser, Senior Counsel in Global Litigation for Sony Music Entertainment Representatives from the legal firms of Jenner & Block LLP, and Mitchell, Silberberg and Krupp LLP also will be addressing serious issues facing the adult and mainstream entertainment industries.

From copyright infringement to prosecuting pirates, from tube sites to new media platforms, this not-to-be-missed conference will confront the issues associated with distribution in the digital age.

Ultimately, content producers will come away with information and ideas for how to maintain and increase revenue in the changing landscape.

FSC Executive director Diane Duke will provide opening and closing remarks at the conference.

"This is the first summit of its kind that brings together the best speakers from mainstream entertainment together with the best of adult," Duke said.

The Summit is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Nov. 18.

Admission is free to FSC professional and business members, and $30 for non-members.

Pre-registration is required, contact (818) 348-9373 or [email protected] for more information or to pre-register."

Question and I'm not trying to stir up dirt here.

Why is the FSC going after piracy? We have seen a number of obscenity prosecutions in this country over the past couple years. Why aren't the resources going into things like this? Digital rights is a completely unrelated matter and has nothing to do with the purpose of the organization in my opinion. Is this simply because there is more money to be made in this area?

I've donated to the FSC in the past because I thought they were fighting for rights to view, produce, and distribute porn. I didn't donate to fund some content producer's legal team. Why not just create a separate groups so that those who want to donate to fight piracy can do so, and those who want to defend against obscenity prosecutions and unconstitutional laws can do so.

Aside from moving to the anti piracy aspect, which I also never cared for but then again their other goal/target was never dealt with anyways and I am sure they felt a bit blindsided and caught off guard when another company took out 2257 without them.

Do I really see Vivid and AEBN on the same discussion. Can we assume they are now very buddy buddy and made some "deal"?
Should AEBN even be invited to or participate in an Anti piracy "summit"?
At very least the other line up should of been highlighted well above the whole Vivid/AEBN portion.

Ah fuck it, why try to be all PC. Why in the fuck would a group that is turning to anti piracy now have them involved?

Nothing at all. Except it might be easier to get donations since piracy is the issue du jour.

I will say on the one hand that this is a pretty good line up of speakers on the other hand the whole thing stinks because of FSC involvement.

I have allegations from someone inside the FSC that there has been gross mismanagement of funds and that at least half a million dollars is unaccounted for. I dont know if this is true but I do have some interesting documentation so far.

Anyone who saw the "annual report" they released knows what a joke that was I mean come on.

they spent 114K on fundraising

they raised 41K fundraising..

YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG! IDIOTS!

Dave I love you man but these guys need a house cleaning.

Good to see you there Dave. I stayed the whole day, because the panels were that good. It was a great event with a lot of very good useful information. The panelists were top-notch, and to see them discussing some of these issues as they relate to adult was simply incredible.

This was sadly not very well-attended by adult webmasters. I guess 9am is just a little early for most... and we wonder why the industry suffers.

I can't speak to the FSC books/accounting, but knowing Diane Duke, personally I have a somewhat hard time believing there's any fraud involved.
