Was just checking out Audi's website and see they have announced a V12 Diesel version of the R8.

The V12 TDI engine. with a displacement of six litres generates 500PS and 1,000 Nm of torque.

Apparently it will do around 26MPG!

Makes the standard R8 look a tad 'plain'

The car is ugly as hell when you look at it from the side. It looks like a deformed Dolphin with that big nose sticking out.

so true ... but diesel technology has develoved very much since the last 10 years.

But it still just does not fit the sports car image ... imo

I have an old (12yo) Turbo-diesel VW Golf, and the red line is as 4600rpm.
On that brand new piece of technology, I'd VERY much doubt it's anywhere below 5500-6000rpm or even higher...

Audi has some balls coming up with a diesel engine in a sportscar.
But hey, Stats don't lie. That engine beat the hell out of all Le Mans competitors for the last couple of years.

And 500 BHP / 1000 Nm of torque are simply mind blowing.

I rememeber talking to you about this car at the Sinners party at webmaster access Amsterdam. Go get one. NOW!

Oh and about the looks. Simply perfect. i got to drive one some time ago (4.2 V8) and It mmakes more heads turn that a Ferrari trust me.
