Any runners here?

I started running daily(at least one mile) last month, got inspired by two books: Living With a SEAL by Jesse Itzler and Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins. Last week I ran 20 miles in one day, that was quite painful. Want to run an ultramarathon(100 miles) next month. Any tips?

What’s the farthest distance you’ve ever ran?

I run about 4 - 5 times a week, no more than 5 miles at time though. Not really interested in doing a Marathon.

I love running, it's not my main workout but I do it at least 4 or 5 times a week (weekdays mostly). my own workouts in the morning and then a run when the sun goes down

I don't think I've ever paid attention to distance, I just love the way it feels and where I live it's a really social activity, have made so many friends both down on the ocean track or in my fav park that has these wicked bouncy tracks that feel awesome

always in the evening, sunset and the wind blowing and just moving. so maybe an hour or so of running, skipping, dancing down the track, whatever as long as it makes the heart race and the endorphins flow

I've never heard of either of the two books you mentioned but googled the latter and get the message, there is a power and sense of 'fuck I can do anything I want' that moving and pushing your body gives you. I honestly don't know how people who don't move their bodies stay sane

yours is a hype goal, far farther than I've ever run in one session

go for it =)

I just completed my longest run last week just over 13.5 miles. I am hoping to do a half marathon this year!

You can run all you want... Eventually your knees will give out and then you will move over to cycling....

There's a couple of people in my neighborhood who do a lot of running (male and female). I've watched them run by so many times over the years.

They look like shit. The guy is skinny with a muffin top and the woman is flabby all over.

I rarely see anyone with a nice athletic body running...and if they do look good they didn't get that way by running.

Of course, this is looking at it from a superficial aesthetics perspective...but what other reason would there be to punish your knees with persistent repetition of crashing your entire body weight onto one foot over and over and over?

You do realize you can run and lift as well right? I do 3 days a week lifting and 4-5 running.
I'm 40 years old and don't have a "Muffin Top"

Also, it's not just about the way you look, running is extremely beneficial to Cardiovascular health. After a run I feel amazing, never do I feel that after an hour of lifting.

100% agreed. running is not really a 'look in the mirror and say dayum' type of workout

it's too hard on your body unless you have perfect form

you can get your cardio in so many safer ways

cycling, swimming, uphill hiking
