Trump's America. 6 months after FL hurricane people still living in tents..

This is the American dream brought to you by Trump and Republicans..

People lost everything, entire towns wiped away and when they needed help.from the govt it's not there because Trump and Republicans have cut disaster relief/ recovery funding..

In the past the govt would have helped these people with FEMA trailers until they could get back on their feet..

In Trump/Republicans America this no longer exists.

2,700 homes were destroyed but FEMA only helped about 800 get into housing.

Yea, and these people who get fucked over just blindly blame "govt bureaucracy" instead of the people who actually turned the govt into a disaster..

For the record anyone who thinks these people can just boot strap fails to understand the scope of these situations.

When something like this happens the entire infrastructure is useless. I drove through the area 3 months after the storm and the entire area in places looked like a giant tornado tore through it.

We are talking 3 months later and there were still trees on houses. Driving down i10 and it was easily 50 miles of 100ft pine trees laying on the ground snapped like twigs.

Many side streets still had trees which were cut enough to clear the roads but stil laying next to them..

When Andrew hit South FL the govt was there for years same with New Orleans and every where else.

Now with Trump he needs wall funding and tax cuts for the rich, so when shit happens there is no money..

In the past the govt wasnt like this..people got help and funds were there to clean up the mess in a timely fashion so at least basic infrastructure was secured and streets were clear..

You do realize most of those people live in rickety shacks and tents anyway in that town

it's their fault for not having insurance

The article mentions nothing about the uninsured.

It says these are insured people where Trump's FEMA is failing them as well as their local government by allowing price gouging rents to increase 300% to take advantage of disaster, pricing them out of their neighborhood.

It often takes more than a year for insurance companies to process all claims for homes and even longer than that for rebuilding to start.

Trump gets an F

What he's done to Florida victims of this disaster is disgusting.

That place is in the sticks. Isn't really a "neighborhood" it's fairly backwoods when you get off the beach. Ive lived all over florida. Most of these people lived in trailers and have no teeth. Just want shit for free. If they hungry and can go into the scrub and eat cocnuts and catch crab in the river. But they won't, because they lazy hobo's in the first place.

if there would not be a much more urgent "national emergency" with those people who would love to build those houses cheap, it would sound like there are some walls needed. i mean walls with roofs on top.

The damage that is done is staggering.... I've been following the damage after the fires in Paradise, California.... The first problem is these people have no place to live. The next problem is they need to clean everything up but that can't even start until the government lets people back in. Even once they are allowed back in, it's impossible to find someone to do the work - Every company that does such work in a 200 mile radius is slammed with work because of the amount of damage. Then they have to fix the infrastructure - power mostly - before they can start rebuilding. I don't even think anyone has started to rebuild.

Most of these people are renting new places to live. The high school burned down....

It's not going to be a six month or year long process. It will take years to rebuild, and even then it will never be the same - because some of the people will be unable to rebuild and have left the area.

They wernt rickety shacks... they were normal houses and you cant get insurance in FL these days.

I know tons of people who want insurance but the insurance companies will claim they aren't writing new policies in the area.

That was another nice thing the govt did after Andrew.. They changed the regulations which let insurance companies pick and choose who they'd insure despite being federally backed...

The feds backed insurance years ago so everyone could get it...yea like Obamacare...

Now they let the lobbyists rewrite the laws and suprise the insurance companies no longer insure many areas yet they still get the fed backing .

If your house is not under a bank loan, good luck getting insurance in FL if it's over 20 years old..

The entire east coast all the way to Texas is hurricane prone.. The NE gets nor easters abd floods even hurricanes.

The mid west gets floods.. past that its tornados and the west coast gets fires, floods and earthquakes...

Where is it not your fault for living in an area that is prone to something? Where is risk free?

Where do you live Dead that you are at risk of nothing?
