Service dog.

Ok. I've made an appointment with a doctor for prescription for service dog. I want to certify my dog so he can always be with me. Anyone have done this before? Is it difficult? I don't like doctors but I need to do this.

Are you in America?

Are you needing a real Service animal under Title II and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or a ESA(Emotional Support Animalto treat problems of anxiety, depression, or other psychological disabilities?

Yes.

1. ADD
2. Anxiety
3. Bipolar
4. Chronic pain
5. Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
6. Degenerative arthritis
7. Depression
8. Diabetes Type 2
9. OCD
10. Panic attacks

I am wondering if I will need to get x-rays and MRI or psychiatrist evaluation as well as just visiting doctor? I don't deal well with people and I refuse to take prescription medications.

esa is not a service dog, esa you get from a shrink, service dog you get the license from a trainer that is certified. dude you can get an esa within 2 hours online. I did.

My cousin did this about 6 or 7 years ago. She doesn't need a service dog, but has a small dog and just wants to be able to take it anywhere. She told her doctor she gets anxiety when she is in public and having the dog there helps. He gave her what she needed, no problem.

If you are going to ask your dog to complete certain tasks, you might have to have the dog certified that it can do these things, but likely it will be quick and easy.

I applied and was approved but my house has one resident who’s allergic to dogs. Also, concern about who takes it out is big. I can’t just jump up and go out.

The process isn’t too involved and a doctor can recommend a dog but the decision is up to the organization supplying them. They have dogs trained to sniff you for low blood sugar or wake you if sugar is high and you crash. They can soothe during a panic attack but I needed meds when I had them. Working seven days a week and eighteen hours a day caused them.

The big issue is people thinking it’s a pet. Strangers playing with them causes them to lose focus on you and they need to monitor you continually. I was told that the other three residents can’t play with the when on duty. Sitting on the patio, the dog is still tuned to me. If I play catch with the dog, others can join in but be aware that the dog is literally watching and sniffing me non-stop so don’t lose patience if they miss the ball.

Some organizations charge and some don’t. You are responsible for vet bills and I was told $300+ can build up quickly. If the dog is deemed underfed or not getting vet care, you surrender the dog, period. No second chance to abuse the dog, they said. Apparently many people get dogs and ignore illness, quality and quantity of food, bathroom breaks, etc.

Therapy animals are popular and require the same care. But you have to take classes every few months about animal deaths and dealing with that. Emotional people may be damaged by the death of a companion animal.

Good luck. No meds with those conditions? My sciatica is active but I take Morphine for other pains. I don’t want more medication.

I want to sell my RV and become a truck driver. Most places either have a 50 lb limit or no dog policy.

That’s not how it works. My friend has a special needs daughter who has a service dog, now on their second. Each one came to them trained specifically to do its job and cost over $30000 each. It was a years long process and not an easy task for them to accomplish. Their daughter is autistic, non verbal and epileptic. The dog is trained to sense oncoming seizures and protect and nurse her through them when they do.

Unless your dog performs an actual service, it’s not a service dog and you don’t deserve to have it designated as such.

Sorry. Seeing the concept abused by the “emotional support animal” crowd makes me sick.

You are allowed to train the dog yourself to do a task. I have legit disabilities. I'm not faking any of them.

The Pain Clinic suggested pot but I requested CBD oil. A friend raves about it and my research shows great results. But, of course, Insurance said NO. Legally prescribed but they feel it’s to get high. My doctor laughed at that and explained it’s not weed, but no good. I’m seeing another pain specialist tomorrow and will bring it up. I cut back on Morphine from 90 mg a day to 40 mg but they only want me to name take more opiates. Opiates over an oil for your pulse points — gee, which is less addictive and puts less chemicals in your body?!

Can you send your dog for training?

Nurse just asked if I’m in pain. “Right hip and both feet.” “Do you want Tylenol?” Same question, response and answer daily. It’s fucking nerve pain, not a headache.

I used to sleep ~20 hours a day for about 10 years before I got my dog. He has helped me become more active. That alone has saved my life.
