The Top 5 Adult Conversion Mistakes


Last year we were searching for additional means of helping webmasters, except for post-production. Taking into consideration the situation (i.e. adult is dead) we have come to conclusion that content protection is very relevant. However soon we rejected this idea, because we didn?t manage to find a way to solve it. In the second place was the increase in profits through the optimization and decrease of costs. We have decided to start from the first option. We are delivering service of conversion optimization to our constant clients for almost one year already. Even more time is being spent on standard as well as private discussions with webmasters, hence we were able to understand their problems and needs. This experience became the foundation of Ratio.XXX and part of our experience was used in this article. Enjoy reading!

CONVERSION AS IT IS
Majority of webmasters consider the conversion as something that had been given from beyond ? e.g. human height or hair color, or else as something that is fully dependent on external factors, e.g. suntan or education. They frequently ask: ?What is your conversion rate in this month?? or ?How the websites of this type are being converted?? However the whole point is that conversion represents the variable unit, which varies quite noticeably. It is more of human weight, rather than his height or suntan. When particular project is at its initial stage, then you don?t have enough time or money for optimization. You need to test the idea, adjust business processes, initiate payback. Besides that it is also to predict customers? behavior at this stage and all you have is unclear assumptions. But as soon as website starts bringing stable income, are spinning and the core of users is being formed ? then it is the time for optimization of business efficiency. Usually it is being initiated together with business automation and never stop. It is very important that a dedicated person or department take care of this, because in the fuss of current problems it is very easy to forget about ratio. Later on you will discover some practical advices by using which you can check it.

Example

Webmaster sees conversion of 1:50 000 and takes it as website conversion. But it is only partly true. This is the sum of micro conversions of each page. Advertisement conversion (CTR) can be 1:100 + landing conversion 1:20 + join conversion 1:25 + gate 1:100 = payment. In other words out of 1 million of shows we receive 10 thousands of visitors, out of which 500 go to join and only 200 go to gate. In the end only 2 of them end up buying. By changing one of these conversions we will be able to change the main website conversion.

IGNORING THE ANALYTICS

Almost similar problem exists in case of analytics. It is being comprehended more as a verdict, quality indicator of the website, rather than as symptoms. Even if analytics is being studied, then only in general and it does not cause any changes to the website itself. Studies of one particular language user are not discussed at all. High rejection rate is being justified by traffic quality, low percentage of recurring content visits, while low conversion is justified by market situation. But the truth is that any traffic can be converted in a certain manner, the worst content can be sold and conversion is distributed among market players. In case if your conversion is low, then it means that someone?s conversion is high. Right after everybody optimizes conversion, then everything will have to be started all over again. CRO ? being one step ahead of competitors.

Example
Now let?s try to make sure we understand the first point in practice. Try to replace one certain element on the page and then track its conversion, as well as website conversion overall. For example, increase the ?Join? button or change its color. Don?t worry if conversion goes low ? if you are able to change it in one direction, then you can also do it in another direction as well. Your task is to test different elements until you are satisfied with the result. Don?t be afraid to make mistakes, because it is the essence of optimization itself. In case if you used a blonde for join and your conversion went low, then you can try using brunette ? the main thing is to make the rate start moving.

EVERYTHING TO THE MAIN PAGE
This is the only practical mistake in this list, but it is so widespread and harmful that I have decided to include it in here as well. Many webmasters collect traffic from different platforms and advertisement companies in order to send it to the main page. It is same as collecting diamonds of different size and put them together and then send for sorting. Why? You have already got the traffic, which is able to pay a lot or a few, which likes videos, photos, certain models etc. So give them what they look for! User that goes through hell in order to see the model he likes or a certain fetish, clicks the link and is forced to search for the same thing at your website already. The best way to sell ? do not prevent from buying.

Example
User enters Google, types ?Naked Miley Cyrus? and see the output. He opens all the similar tabs: half of tabs don?t have Miley Cyrus at all, another half doesn?t have naked Miley Cyrus. He finds TGP with thumb, which suits him, then clicks it and gets in return lots of popunders, clicks more and more. At certain moment he finds short video on the tube and is almost happy. But video gets interrupted and he gets offered to watch the full version at the NakedCelebrities.com website. Without any hesitation he clicks and gets to the main page. Where is promised Miley? How to find her? Why do I need Britney Spears? As result, user leaves unsatisfied.

COPYING
This is a very widespread ?technique? of increasing the rate. All you do is find a famous website and do everything the same way it is done over there. Surprisingly, it really works and in case, if you have the same type of auditory and this website is your competitor. However the popularity does not always mean high conversion ? this website can be buying a huge amount of traffic or working in order to conquer the market even though it causes losses. Obviously, in such case it won?t work. And even if it?s all about the rate, then you are still in position of pursuing and all the merits will end up in their hands. As it was previously mentioned, conversion optimization means being more effective than your competitors, but not trying to look like them.

Example
You saw social confirmation (e.g. proof of popularity among people) at some famous website and then started publishing video views, likes and comments. Yes, in case if you are Brazzers with tens of thousands of views and positive reviews ? then it is a very effective move. But for smaller a website such confirmation will have inverse effect. 100 views and big amount of dislikes do not inspire to subscribe. Users might have more optimistic expectations regarding your website. So forget about blind copying.

FULL REPLACEMENT
At certain point of time website owner comes up with idea to change the design. The mistake is similar to the previous one ? it is not clear how it will reflect on conversion, what exactly caused it and how to return it back. Website has already got a certain public, which is used to current design and means of conversion. And, by making full replacement we are risking not to improve, but make it worse. It looks more like a lottery game rather than marketing move. Any changes in the website should rely on analytics, be harmonic with the website overall and go through relevant tests. We almost never use full replacement for our clients.

Example

Web design looks like female fashion very much ? it is tilting from side to side. Right after some element appears at the famous website, the next day thousands of templates appear everywhere and it becomes a trend among designers around the whole world. But if you have hairy website and you have 50+ old users, then there can be no parallax at all. It totally differs from websites, which they visit and from their perception of comfort. Design replacement is a very risky activity. It should be carried out, while you track down the conversion at the same time and only after convincing tests.
