    .XXX starts their meelions of dollars marketing campaigns with TV Commercials

    ICM Registry has posted its first wave of TV commercials for .xxx onto YouTube.

    The theme running through the four commercials is that not registering a .xxx may save you a bit of cash, but that registering one will make you rich.

    Or something.

    I can?t say I ?get? the humor, but I?m probably not the demographic.

    Here?s the first three. The character, ?King Gavin?, is played by Gavin McInnes, founder of Vice magazine.







    ICM says the commercials will start to air on TV in the US soon.

              Don't seem very convincing. For the short time their branding appears at the end, I can see most watchers thinking, "wtf was that all about?". I have to believe those will be edited down before appearing on TV.

                          My personal opinion is this is a giant fail.

                          I'm not sure what these really accomplish from a professional advertising position.

                          The associations are very undefined.

                          Mostly, it just seems to me to be a way to get away with advertising a porn extension on mainstream TV.

                          The lack of addressing any of the merits they've associated to the extension in the commercials, are very suggestive to ICM's true goal.

                          That's my opinion anyhow.

                                                              This was my thought exactly, after all of the angles icm has put out there as reasoning to accept and buy their extension, all these ads exemplify is "hey you can make a lot of money with .xxx".

                                                              I realize these ads are short and don't allow much explanation to a general audience in such a short time, but you would at least think that each ad would have a different angle associated with it. Seems like a colossal waste of money.

                                                                              to satisfy all three groups, one would need to present proposal with a solution addressing points industry has trouble with such as abundance of free porn & questionable billing practices. it seems as though if industry wants to be profitable again it needs to be regulated or the very least apply and follow higher standards, at the same time we don't want to allow any type of censorship that may follow regulation.

                                                                                                      When most idiots on here were saying they never thought it was possible for the govt to mandate all porn to .xxx and off of the rest of the tlds, I thought most people were under estimating Stuarts agenda. He is going to lobby, bribe and do what ever he can to make sure porn is off of .com and has to be on .xxx, legally. It makes his sales go up 100x more. You talking about a difference of a couple million a year vs 100's of millions of dollars. This was his agenda from DAY 1. But of course he couldn't let people know that and he had to play the " I will protect you if they try to force you to use .xxx" I always LMAO on that statement.                                                                                                                                   I don't think it will happen, but I would never say it's impossible. It really depends on who is in office and what their agenda is. And it really wouldn't have anything to do with ICANN but the laws of the country you live in. For example, if the US decided that it was only legal to have porn on a .xxx domain then you could still buy a .com from ICANN and put porn on it, but if the govt caught you, then you would be fined, arrested or whatever their penalties were.

                                                                                                                                  Also, you can't sue the govt so there would be no lawsuits and the govt wouldn't be taking your property. You could still keep your .com domain, you just couldn't show nudity on it.

I agree this video hardly convince existing adult webmasters, but it should not, it is not targeted to who own adult sites really! This is TV ads, so it is targeted to mainstream biz and final consumers, not to us the site guys. We all know of xxx from domain registrars and adult biz forums, since ages. So th real question of this TV ad it is, will it convince TV audience that XXX is cool? I can't say, but may make aware lots of people that XXX exists.

                                                                                                                                              About XXX success, I think it will depend not on tv ads or adult webmasters support, or by governments, but mostly on google and visa/mastercard.
                                                                                                                                              Let google put xxx domains upper then the com's on adult search terms, and xxx will be a success, let xxx be down in google results, and xxx will be a fail. Further, let visa/mastercard (nearly)mandate xxx for adult and no choice then success.
                                                                                                                                              Since I have no idea what google and visa/mastercard will decide on xxx in next few years (and probably they have no idea yet too), I can not understand why currently so many people seems sure that xxx it will be a fail. It depends on google and billers, not on us or even icm registry itself.

There is no domain that any of you here can buy for the normal registration price and get a domain that will produce traffic for you just because it's a .xxx domain. The only exception would be if you already have a good .com and you had first rights to buy the .xxx equivalent.

                                                                                                                                                                                  Only the most common / best keywords will get type in traffic from the .xxx marketing they are trying to do. Those will either go to the people who own the .com's of the same keyword or ICM will be selling them for a lot more than normal registration costs.

                                                                                                                                                                                  From a pure business decision it's a loss for 99% of us to buy a .xxx domain. You wont make dick from it, just waste $100+ a year. From a matter of principle, even if I could make money from owning a .xxx domain I would still go tell Stuart to fuck himself.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      Even if you have the .com and followed their process to exercise your privilege to reg the .xxx, you'll find that if it's truly a top tier domain, they've already sold it to someone else. It's 'reserved by ICM registry'. So far it's happened with cuckolds.com and interracialsex.com, as best I can tell. It'll cost you 100 something bucks to find out that you can't reg your name though.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      Every email I send them, I cc my atty. Seems to me that they've opened themselves up to litigation by putting in place a process that supposedly gives .com owners first rights to the .xxx name. If you follow their rules and still get denied, should be plenty of grounds for a lawsuit.
